line of the day – ‘you, with a little bit of me, we’re changing the pear world’

Really enjoyed this episode – nice to hear the words of a truly masterful winemaker, and interesting to see him slip more and more French into the conversation. My highlight was when the guest used the term ‘make up’ to describe anything that affects the winemaking process, and Gary threw in a big sideways glance at the camera, as it’s a phrase he often uses himself.

Will have to seek out the Pear Brandy.
Still a bit tired of the guests as there are just too many, too close together but all in all, I will always love the show. Great job!
    More blind tastings please?

QOTD : Not a fan of white burgundy

Anyone else give up alcohol for lent?

I’ve been cold turkey on it and coffee (my two great culinary loves) for 5 or so years now and the second week or so is always where it gets tough. Reading the latest issue of Esquire without a bourbon just ain’t the same.

I meditate and drink lots and lots of water to make it through. How do the rest of you cope?

And since someone always asks: I do it because 1) it’s an annual test of will that makes me feel good, 2) it rekindles my passion and appreciation for the things I give up and 3)it really impresses my wife since I miss free drinks on my birthday and miss out on St. Patrick’s day (though Mardi Gras is a blast!).

Back to CRU, eh? Did you spend a whole day there?

Looking forward to this episode – I have been trying to learn more about Burgundy a lot more recently. Seems like a place I have to go – too band the wines get real pricey…

    Have a great weekend!

Great episode. I’m a big pear fan so I would love to try some of this brandy. Do you know any places in the NY area that may carry it?

Pear wine is the first wine I made. My grandmother had pear trees in her back yard. She would make pear pie and I would make pear wine. I even made a silly label and called it Pear berry. This show made me think of her. Thank you

  • Incredible show. I don’t know what it is with the European guests but they always kill.

I am absolutely in love with pears and that brandy may just be the thing for an upcoming birthday treat. Not to mention that package was gorgeous.

  • Love the French Thunder. Man would I love of bottle of that pear brandy. Pear is the King of fruits in my book (behind grapes of course).

QOTD – In my experience a classic white Burgundy should have elegance; elegance on the nose, palate, and finish. It’s not ruined by massive oak, it’s not fruit bomby, it has a nice crisp acidity and some minerality, and it ALWAYS has that ripping GORGEOUS color.

QOTD: Balance, but with an attitude…I don’t want a fruit bomb, but I don’t mind a quick slap in the mouth, either.
