line of the day – ‘it’s like you see a 4ft 9in gal walking down the street…and then she beats the sh** out of you’

The guest wasn’t bad, but wasn’t great either – a little bit too inclined to agree with GV. Highlight was the fact that Mott forgot to bleep out the first swearword to actually make it to air.

I really thought Sarah was going to get her head stuck in the glass.

QOTD: Maybe the wine was great! There have been plenty of times when I have had a wine which I thought was outstanding, only to have someone else think it was horrible. To each his own, right?

I’m looking forward to watching you bring the thunder show down under. You’re going to be blown away by the wines you taste here in NZ – I must say the NZ wines you tend to have on the show are average at best – not even close to the finest examples NZ has to offer. I hope you get to do a full tour of the country, but even if you are just doing central otago, try and visit the Waipara district just north of Christchurch (where you’ll be flying in/out from to get to Otago). They are doing fantastic things there with Riesling, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay – Pegasus Bay and Muddy Water wineries in particular

I really enjoyed this episode, but that may just be b/c sarah’s appearance on the show ;). In all seriousness, I enjoyed the honest notes from Clayton. He sounds like he’s somewhere close to me in terms of wine experience, which is refreshing!

QOTD: If you’ve ever done any home brewing or winemaking, you would understand the, oh 10-100 variables that can come into play that ultimately determine the flavor/quality of the final product! It would be irresponsible to take a stab at the factors that led to poor wine from Evergreen.

QOTD: The grape juice represents the good product that they started with, and the Pinot represents what the winemaker did to it (i.e. he screwed it up).

  • Kopi, wow, lighten up! dude said he’s “new” to wine and from your comments apparently you’re not… I think I detect some political hostility in your post 😉

QotD: Clayton, maybe the winemaker is really a grape juice maker and thought wine wouldn’t be “that difficult” 🙂

Loved the show… Seeing the “Big Ass Glass” beside the one you typically use on the show made me chuckle. Like a basketball player next to a jockey… priceless..

QOTD: Because they didn’t watch Geevee’s keynote at SXSW, where he stated: “Putting out the content is like wiping the crap out of your eye in the morning. It?s just the beginning.” Well, they missed that step and went right to marketing…

Oh, P.S. The fact they had great grape juice probably means they have good fruit, and then screw it up when making the wine.

Fox and friends? Really? Oh no…

QOTD: Easy- grape juice is slightly less complex a product than wine. As for the crappy Pinot? I dunno- but with great location and terroir for that varietal up there, they gotta be doing something wrong.

    Great show. Nice couple.
QOTD: Sorry about your disappointment at Evergreen. It’s much easier to get only one part of the winemaking process correct, than the many elements that come after to make great wine.

QOTD: was it pinot grape juice? I have no clue! I’ve had a lot of bad pinot, so it’s easy to screw up. Maybe it’s harder to screw up grape juice?

On Watchmen – the comic is a classic, there was no way the movie could do it justice.

  • Mother natute is smarter than all of us, when you try to make it happen artifically, that’s exactly what you get. When you said the wine had some “chemical” taste that’s probably all the PVC flowing through the vineyard for drainage that you’re tasting.

I don’t konw the secret to making grape juice, probably very high brix, and I love the Welch’s all natural white grape juice.

You’re going to New Zealand in late July to taste wine? C’mon Gary, we all know it’s because you want to do the Lord of the Rings tour. We’re your fan base, you can be honest with us.

Karate reference is always a good reference. Great show, but I think you should have given Clayton three different wines. And why don’t you say ‘Whether they like it or not?’ anymore. I love it. BRING IT BACK! BRING IT BACK!

QOTD: I would say it was ruined by some of the Portland hippies revolting against the man.

Again, a couple days behind…and not because of St. Pat’s. I’m too old to care, but I still love to see the Daily Show’s correspondant (John Oliver, this time) egging on a bunch of drunken f*-tards, usually under the auspcies of the day’s topical issues.

This one wasn’t for me, but the great thng was that Clayton professed that just a few years back, he wasn’t even into wine, but rather got into it on behalf of his wife! Kudos, my Fox Friend! What a guy. Kinda makes me sad that mine still prefers Jaeger (insert frowny frown emoticon here, cause I don’t even know, or care how that’s done).

Clayton, carry, and in the future, you will have tme for the Argyles, Beau Frere, Domaine Drouhin, etc.

And friends – don’t forget that a growing number of Oregon’s finest came from Cali. ex-pats/ or co-ventures, lke Gary Andrus’s Gypsy Dancer and earlier Archery Summit, Keegan’s consultation at Adelsheim, and vinyard sources for top makers like Siduri.

QOTD: teckmology is a vital aspect to producing wine. The Peynaud Revolution is something you should research to get a good feel for how teckmology has changed the wine making process in the last 50 years. However, the viticulturist Richard Smart will let you know really quick that great wine is made in the vineyard and not in the tank or barrel.

    Peace out.

interesting way to make over the top grape juice, start fermentation and then stop it as soon as it starts, get great flavors from fermentation esthers, but with very little alcohol. It’s an old trick
