Not my favourite guest (a little bit full of himself), but I have to hand it to him, one of the very few guests to actually say what he thinks about the wines. Maybe you need a super ego to have the confidence to say it as you see it. Kudos to him for that but the hat and the dodgy handshake at the end mean he has more minuses than pluses for my palate

Gary, I’m sure that others have already expressed their frustration with your obsessive use of the word “play.” Just to remind you, an aroma isn’t a play; a taste isn’t a play; a value isn’t a play. A play is a literary work performed on stage. Aside from having to endure the monotony of hearing your new favorite word spoken endlessly, I wonder whether you use it because you think of yourself as some sort of “playa” in the wine world. Bill Harlan is a player; Jess Jackson is a player. With all due respect, you’re a worker in your father’s store in Jersey. Your program, which I’ve enjoyed for at least two years, has become too annoying to listen to. Regrets, Gary K.

Looks like we need a Semi-Annual Kevin Rose Show !
U 2 were so releaxed and awesome together. GREAT GREAT SHOW.

    QOTD:
Saratoga Sparkling Minerial Water, it’s very velvety on the palette.
    – As much as I love wines I really dislike juices and soda.

Fun show guys. I thought Kevin was going to enjoy the CDR after hearing he likes Malbec. These are both high on my list.

QOTD: Espresso and cappuccino brewed at home.

Groovy! Fun guest! Young, fulll of life and innovative ideas.

QOTD: When it comes to enjoying a beverage other than wine and water, I love black coffee. Not very original, I know, but pour me a cup of freshly ground and brewed, very hot and very strong (almost molasses like)coffee, accompanied by a square or two of 99% cocoa count choco, and you’ve got me going!

    Cheers!

Nice little show and thanks for the Sauternes “play”

QOTD: I’ve been all about the sparking juices lately. Fizzy Lizzy which is hard to find so have to settle for plain old IZZE lately.

Great guest today Gary, I like it when the guests don’t know much more than me and you are more in teacher-mode. Then I’m in student-mode. 🙂
QOTD: Boringly, I drink coffee, water, beer and wine. That’s about it.

P.S. Your staff rocks! They made some killer suggestions this past weekend.

    Gary,

While I enjoy your energy and enthusiasm and your mission to try to speak about wine in a manner that breaks the esoteria that plagues most experts, the show deteriorates when you tailor your speaking style to your guests’ speaking style. And, to be quite honest, it makes you appear less genuine, especially to a regular watcher of the show. I much prefer your discussions from the series of shows that you shot at Cru than this “dude/play/no way” fest.

As always, I appreciate your point of view, just not your delivery in this episode.

    Constructively yours.

qotd: I love green tea and Indian white tea with their subtle fragrance is very relaxing; don’t need the coffee buzz later in the day or middle of the night taking a break from sleeping.
Digg was spot on. Smell it first. TR

Nice ep, I found it particularly interesting to see the relatively unschooled wine drinker give his opinions on wines, and have them match with the expert’s, even though they were articulated quite differently.

QOTD: Apple Cider, unpasteurized from hole in the wall orchards here in OH. The evolution of flavor from the wild yeast(s) is fantastic!!!

Great show! Kevin was so honest and real! Most folks at his level of experience are so much more reticent to express their opinion. He just let it all out, which is great!

I had my first Sancere Rose from Pinot Noir about a month ago. I was blown away with the intensity of flavor and sensation of Pinot Noir. I am going after this stuff. The best news is that summer is almost upon us.

I discovered Grand Veneur in the early 2000’s. I agree with your gamey comparisons, which I love in Rhone wines.

QOTD: I am actually serious about this: the best non-alcoholic drink I have ever had was 1986 Stanza Tokaji Eszencia. Eszencia is probably the most famous dessert wine in the history of the world. The Russian Czars controlled the entire production of this for a century or two. It had an incredible reputation for medicinal, curative powers. It also has 0% alcohol. It is made literally drop by drop from extremely late harvest grapes in Hungary…about 2 drops of juice per grape. This wine defines the maximum amount of sweetness possible in a wine. But best of all, it is considered a wine…except for tax and age of purchaser purposes.

What’s with the criticism of this episode. “I don’t like when you use lingo that I can’t understand!” “I’m old and I don’t appreciate your hipster talk!” “You’re just a worker in your dads shop and I’m angry cause my wife is cheating on me!”

    Get over yourselves folks.

  • Great episode, glad to see Kevin on the show. Just watched it back to back with Diggnation’s Live episode at SXSW.

QOTD: I can’t pass up a raspberry mocha at Starbucks, but I also really like celestial seasonings lemon zinger green tea. The hibiscus adds a great flavor.

  • QOTD: some of those VitaminWater and similar drinks, as well as Fiji mineral water, especially in the morning. Also, there is a phenomenal healthy natural juice/smoothie place around the corner that makes a bunch of killer drinks.

Lots of ‘dudes’ getting tossed around, but that was fun.

QOTD – I drink a ton of water because it is free and has no calories – but I have recently been really enjoying ginger ale mixed with orange juice. It works for me – very refreshing.
