EP 646 2004 Italian Brunello’s are Red Hot, Today Gary Talks About Them.

Wine Spectator scores the 2004 Brunello’ds a 92-97 as a vintage and Wine Advocate scores Tuscany a 96 but Antonio Galloni says “There is absolutely no reason to get worked up about 2004 Brunello and commit capital without tasting the wines first.” So today Gary Vaynerchuk will try the 1st two that have come in!

Wines tasted in this episode:

2004 Argiano Brunello Di MontalcinoBrunello di Montalcino
2004 Camigliano Brunello MontalcinoBrunello di Montalcino

Extremely hyper GV in this episode and as a result the show is a bit too full on. Mott’s first ever link up suggestion the highlight

  • Hey, Gary Vee. Just wanted to let you know I reviewed this episode for Idiot Box v2 (its a web TV blog). Picked it up off of Hulu. Have to say, really enjoyed the show.

Love the Brunellos – had a Banfi 1997 the other night, however it paled in comparison to a 2000 Barolo (Einaudi).

    QOTD 1 – I am fine with sharing your wine experiences – I am a multi-tasker.
    QOTD 2 – The Godfather I – wedding scene
QOTD 3 – Too legit, too legit to quit!

Legit does not do anything for me. But if you really like it then please use it. I like a combination of longer and shorter shows. Some evenings and weeks I don’t have time for long shows so I skip them until I have more time.

  • Gary – no mention of the Merlot and other grapes scandal in Montalcino from last year?

  • Semi-QOTD – Small talk or focus. Gary, you need to do what will keep you interested and happy in your show. That, in the long run, will make for the best show. Trying to cater to your diverse audience is a recipe for failure. By the way, I don’t like the small talk during the wine tasting, I fear you will lose focus. Nevertheless, the Petit Syrah tip is appreciated.

I’m a big fan of the random side comments, if it comes to mind let it out. I think it brings big time bonus thunder to The Thunder Show.
When I hear legit, I either think its for real or I start thinking of the use of legit when doing programming.
Since I found WLTV through Leo Laporte’s This Week In Tech AKA TWiT, the Web 2.0 guests are a big plus.

Great show…I’m going to have to try some Brunello’s. I like the abstract comments like you did today w/Peachy Canyon (I love that vineyard) so keep it coming.
    QOTD#1: Road to Perdition
QOTD#2: MC Hammer & those parachute pants. Yikes.

    G,

i enjoy brunellos, especially the ones that are bargains. 40 bones is a bit much, but if it shakes the thunderdome and gets a 94 point score, then maybe this is something to add to the collection for a special occasion. do a show on bargain brunellos that rocked your socks off…..

side comments: i really enjoy them as long as you stay on point and don’t digress too much or lose focus.

QOTD: lots of movies have that stuff in them. BOTTLE SHOCK was one of those movies that while it was interesting, it was glamorized and Hollywood-ized to make a more intersting movie, and paled in comparison to the book and the real account of the Paris Wine Tasting.

I love the variety of input on this episode. Peachy Canyon makes great wine. Have you tried their Port? It is fabulous!

Hey Gary, it WAS a good show. And I liked that it was less than 30-40 minutes (you had a long string of those in Feb/Mar).

mini-QOTD: Yes, I like when you intersperse other wine info and experiences during the show. I do, after all, watch the show because of wine. So these little “off-topic” meanderings are fine with me.

QOTD: Legit? I think of LeBron James!

I love you just the way you are, Gary. All the “serious” wine snobs that get upset need to take a reality check or get the hell out. Never had a Brunello, or much Italian wine for that matter. I have enjoyed them though and plan on buying a nice Barolo in the future because my family and I are going to a nice Italian restaurant in a month and might buy one on the list. QOTD: I dont use that word that often, but I think of something that is real. Of course when someone uses that word its almost a sense of their own opinion, like “this wine is legit,” or “that baseball player is legit,” so you have to take it for what its worth.
