EP 646 2004 Italian Brunello’s are Red Hot, Today Gary Talks About Them.

Wine Spectator scores the 2004 Brunello’ds a 92-97 as a vintage and Wine Advocate scores Tuscany a 96 but Antonio Galloni says “There is absolutely no reason to get worked up about 2004 Brunello and commit capital without tasting the wines first.” So today Gary Vaynerchuk will try the 1st two that have come in!

Wines tasted in this episode:

2004 Argiano Brunello Di MontalcinoBrunello di Montalcino
2004 Camigliano Brunello MontalcinoBrunello di Montalcino

line of the day – ‘my cheeks look like Yoda right now’

Extremely hyper GV in this episode and as a result the show is a bit too full on. Mott’s first ever link up suggestion the highlight

    Sensei,

    Like most, MC Hammer

Love Brunello’s and one of my favorite food pairings that you did not mention….Lamb!

  • QOTD – Scarface. Awesome beginning. Boring and unfocused middle and of course the awesome ending.

Semi-QOTD: Keep the “flabby and fun”. In addition to the great information yo provide, the flabby and fun keeps the show real.

QOTD1: Saving Private Ryan was a great movie with a few slow spots.

QOTD2: I agree with an earlier post, MC Hammer instantly came to mind. That or the LEGIT ‘Cuse 2-3 zoning the heck out of The Sooners this Friday shutting down Blake Griffin. Just like 2003 when the ‘Cuse whooped up on those Big Twelve teams on rute to the title.

  • 1) Yes, side comments

    2) Funny that you bring that up as I just did exactly that. After tasting six wines. I busted out some homemade/cured bacon for nibbling on. After retasting all of the wines the one most improved by the pairing was a Spatlese. This makes sense to me as the wines had definite apple notes and apple curing is a great type of bacon.

    3)Yes, the hand signs. 2L-2L2—–>

I actually like it when the shows slow down.. It’s hard to commit 2+ hours a week! Especially when I might save it for Friday when it’s my slow day at work and I am able to catch up when I am not listening to Stern that day..

QOTD.5: Sometimes yes. Brings us into GV’s world outside the shop.
    QOTD1: MC Hammer 2 Legit 2 Quit

Love the tight shows. Anything under 15 minutes rules. Very happy.

  • Brian Smith

-Flabby- I like the off topic stuff
-Movie-Maybe The Godfather or a Star Wars movie.
    -QOTD: 2 Legit… 2 Legit to Quit

    flabby but fun pls 😉

  • Fun and flabby – actually you can pull of the FUN without the flab…

    LEGIT….

    1. In college we used the word LEGIT a lot. I still do some but there was a time when everything was legit. “Oh that wide receiver is legit.” “Oh she’s legit.”

    2. Come on….MC Hammer “Too legit to quit….Go Hammer!”

    3. Now Gary Vay-ner-chuk will get linked with legit

  • vivianovino

The first movie I think of is Rocky II. Its all cool until those boring minutes when Adrian is in a coma, but then gets good again when she comes out and tells Rocky To “WIN!” –Game over.

    QOTD: Here comes the Hammer!!

QOTD 1: Definitely flabby & fun

QOTD 2: I was thinking a nice bacon wine might be a Chateneuf Du Pape? Perhaps Pegau?

QOTD 3: Legit? Think I need to stop at two.

Great show and it’s nice to see you back in the original format. Love the guests but need a break. Blind tasting anytime soon?

    Bring on the Brunellos.

    semi QTD 1: I like hearing about your personal wine journey;
    semi QTD 2: 2001: A Space Odyssey. When the ape picks up the jawbone, you see what you’re in for;
QTD: when I hear the word “legit”, regardless of who speaks it, it sounds poseur. Thus, ironically, it seems totally non-legit.

  • ScottEJ

Good to see some Italian in the house. I know they’re not always the cheapest, but, compared to other regions who ball in these price points, they regularly bring the thunder (to me). Looking forward to more Italy – red and/or white.

QOTD: Legit? If it didn’t put the image of a Geanie pant wearing MC Hammer in my head, I’d say it’s, well, legit.

Also…yes, please bring on the bacon and the meats in the wine. That is one of my all time favorite flavor profiles out there.

And, feel free to go off on tangents…as long as they’re wine (or football) related.

    Thanks.

QOTD: I can only think of “2L2Q” Too Legit to Quit.

Great, now I can’t get that song out of my head… =)

  • Semi QOTD: I like em firm.

Movie QOTD: Can’t think of one that put me to sleep during the middle but a movie that I love that has a terrible (unfinished) ending is “A Civil Action” with John Travolta.

I like the personal wine stories, keeps you legit! 😉

Yes, to the movie question but I can’t think of one now either.

How true about trying the wines you had once and don’t like. I have done and continue to do that, because maybe it is the producer, vintage or area you don’t like and not the varietal itself.
Thanks for the encouragement to try new stuff!

Gary, we definitely missed you last week. Good show, I have tried a couple Brunellos in the past and I wasn’t a fan, but I’ll give them another go.

QOTD 1 – I like a little friendly chit chat thrown in every once in awhile. It keeps it fresh.

QOTD 2 – The best example for me is Gladiator. I love the movie but for some reason I always pass out in the middle for like 15-20min.

QOTD 3 – Legit is LEGIT!!! I think its getting overworked but I catch myself throwing it out there quite a bit.

Yes to the tangental wine experiences. Those are good. We viewers think that when you are drinking wine on your own, part of the work is already done. Suffice it to say, we may disagree with your assertions, but if it get’s in your way, it warrants consideration. If you like Petit Syrah’s so much, you should do a show. Many wine enthusiasts don’t know much about it still.

  • Side comments are money.

I would have to say The Lord of the Rings – and Star Wars – but the boring parts are entirely necessary I would argue.

QOTD: 2 Legit to quit Baby, my dad once met MC hammer in the airport – walks right up to him and his body gaurds and says “who is this guy somekind of baseball player?” (Hammer wearing a Reds hat).
