line of the day – ‘this smells like a helium balloon filled with oak chips’

After the previous episode where GV seemed a bit full of himself he’s back to his fantastic best in this one. The fruit machine analogy was pure gold.

    GV good show my man.
QOTD: I like my bacon wrapped or on something like bacon wrapped scallops or filet but Pancetta on top of meat loaf kick ass it crunchy and the fat renders into meat that?s good eats
    Question for you:
Wrestlemania 25 Chris Jericho vs. “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat & Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka how cool is that to see some of the old school lengends we grew up with in action again

  • Miguel Cavalcanti

Like others, I thought the poop/veggie slot machine shtik was inspired!

QOTD: Bacon is great as an ingredient, and I’ve learned a lot of new places to put it reading these comments. But during the few times I’ve eaten it alone as you did, Tarlant Brut Zero Champagne went toe-to-toe. Nervy, not creamy. A perfect match!

  • QOTD: I like my bacon next to two eggs hash browns and toast.

My question for you is this: when are you going to have Ronnie Sanders on the Thunder Show? I met him a week ago when he did a bottle signing at the wine shop I work at in Montana and he had nothing but good things to say about you, so it’s only fitting that you give him some love right back, or at the very least taste a few of his wines on the show.

I like Cinnamon bacon from Berkeley Bowl. I bake it at 400 and cut it up and add it to grits. Yum.

Gary, what baseball team do you favor? i’ve never heard you talk baseball.

The classic BLT with good tomatoes and thick slice bacon. It is quite interesting to note how my palate had changed concerning tannins. At one time it was a kiss of death for a wine to have strong tannins, yet now it is a part of the overall impression.

When are you going to do another blind tasting?

    gary,

i have been a huge fan of the show for about 3 years. but i must admit i am terrible about leaving a comment. sorry about that…the lurker in me must die!

to be quite honest, i love you without a guest. i think you rock it by yourself. guests are fine, but i think you’ve got it going without one. love the show.

my question for you is…what’s it like being an expecting father?

    another classic episode.

qotd: growing up in the south a really common thing was to fry up a large plate of bacon and then sit down with a jar of dukes mayonnaise and dip the bacon in the mayonnaise until it was gone. then we’d save the oil and grease from all the bacon and use it later in the evening in our cornbread.

just placed my first order online, i can’t wait to try some of the wines i’ve seen reviewed on the site!

  • I like bacon wrapped around asparagus and roasted.

Question for you Gary… what is the one food that might be kind of embarrassing to admit that you love?

Love the bacon pairing! Absolutely some of the best solo episodes when you cover odd pairings. I really like when you break down every little thing that happens in your mouth. It’s the coolest thing to hear you talk about each transition and phase that happens on your pallet! Thanks to you I now sniffy sniff and whirl every beverage.

For a side note, I’ve just decided that I’m going to try to leave a comment for each episode. It’s really a far better experience when the viewer gets to interact with the show and you interact back! Greatest thing ever that you put the effort into responding to everyone who writes you.

QOTD: Any combo with eggs is always the best. And when are you going to bring your favorite root beer on and do tastings?!

  • QOTD: I eat my bacon cooked. I usually make two batches however — one extra crispy and another served “MEDIUM RARE” because I like both types so much.

Q4GV: I know you are a huge sports fan as well as an old school pro-wrasslin’ fan. What do you think of professional mixed martial arts? I think it is one of the most exciting sports out there today and I’ve competed in amateur MMA for over 5 years. Do you follow it? You may or may not be aware that former WWE star, Brock Lesnar is the current UFC heavyweight champ.

So been getting more and more into wine lately, though sadly a slightly broke college student. Still have been looking around and having wine starting to pile up here, was wondering how you would recommend storing wines. Have read around and seen a few different things but was curious how you would recommend it.
    Thanks much.

Good show, Gary. Too bad the Burgundy didn’t turn out, I had high hopes when I saw you pull it out. It’s the first thing that pops in to my mind when I think “bacon wine”
QOTD: At 11 a.m. on sunday with scrambled eggs and toast.
QOTDForGary: What idea for a future thunder show do you find exciting?

  • I don’t eat bacon that much to be honest…I love bacon but I don’t know for some reason I don’t. I prefer bacon by itself in strips but also love it chopped up on a baked potato. Oddly, I normally hate all*things pork but bacon is the tastegasm exception.

Your Question of the Day: I’m sure you’ve seen the baconator that lets you add bacon to any website but have you seen Cornify? it lets you add unicorns to every website. So how about a Wine w/ Unicorn pairing?…MMMMMmmmmm tasty.

  • QOTD: I love it best like my mother makes it: pan fried. Sometimes with fried eggs and tomates and even beans for a very british breakfast (even if I am from Germany). Sometimes with pasta and a sweet-ish tomato-based sauce.

Question for you Gary: how often do you travel to Belarus?

The oak monster lives in Cape Mentelle, if you want awesome Margaret River chardonnays you HAVE to try “Voyager Estate” and “Moss Wood” so much acid you’ll start trippin. Get onto that Gary.

Your timing of this episode could not be better. This Saturday I am hosting my 4th annual Baconfest. We get 12 lbs of bacon, invite everyone over, and no one leaves until its gone. Every year we have a few winos bringing their wines and now I have something extra to get just for them. Thanks for the awesome show long time viewer.

    Good show G.

QOTD: I enjoy bacon on top of an egg and between two biscuit halves!

Question for you: How do you think Obama’s agenda will effect the wine industry? You usually steer clear of politics, but I was curious.

Great show! I occasionally make bacon for my family, but I “bake” it in the oven (400 degrees for about 15 minutes). Line the pan with aluminum foil and just lay the bacon strips on top (no need to flip during cooking). EASY cleanup and perfect bacon every time.

I enjoy bacon for breakfast slapped between two pieces of toast, melted cheese and egg. I enjoy it for lunch on a club sandwich or for dinner wrapped around scallops or a filet mignon. I never thought of pairing bacon with a white wine, but will definitely give the Conundrum a try.

My QOTD for Gary V: What is the first winery you plan on taking your baby to?
