Solid show, nothing crazy.
To be honest Sauvignon Blanc gets so much exposure these days that it’s hard to get too pumped about it.

Nice to see a regular home episode, though did not need the cat pee distraction.

QotD – Everything w/o oak and some of the serious new Rose’ bottlings…not that JUG stuff

  • I’m excited about drinking what you are bringing on the Thunder Cruise. I’m not a big fan of NZ SB as they often taste too alike to me. My preference is still Sancerre though the price is certainly better in NZ.

Gary, Nice food pairing idea with the sushi! Sounds like a warm weather combination I’d like to get into once as the temperature/humidity rise here in the District of Columbia.

QOTD: Top 3 Wines I’m excited for this Spring:

1)2005 Domaine du Petit Paris Monbazillac…for the sweet tooth (affordable!)
2)2007 Villa Maria Estate Sauvignon Blanc Private Bin Marlborough…for the porch
3)2005 Sequoia Grove Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford…for a NY strip steak off the grill

    Keep up the good work.

    Gary………………
    I really don’t do Sauv. Blancs, but………
you have peaked my interest in the Chasing Venus.
    Ya never know.

Spring is (kinda) here, so I’m leaning more to the Torrontes and Sparklings again, but
will still continue to consume massive quantities of Merlot & Malbec.

  • Nice, tight show! I just Tweeted about CAT PEE over the weekend “Cats Pee On A Gooseberry Bush” wine label (check it out if you haven’t seen it). When you’re down under in New Zealand check out INVIVO. Nice buch of guys and great wines.

QOTD: Chenin Blancs will be my palate expanding experience over the summer.

  • Definitely my favorite by-the-pool wine. Wish we could grow decent the grapes where I am, but alas….. Good show, but we ladies don’t lick bats. We lick out aluminum pans where we’ve been cooking (or cleaning) with lemons. Do we need some gender specific descriptors?

Looking forward to an Alsace Reisling (Domaine Schlumberger 2004)and Australian Sauvignon Blanc (Philip Shaw No. 19 2006). I don’t think either is better than 90 pts but what the hay, times are tough.

  • VanKula

QOTD: Looking forward to trying more Sancerre this spring and ALWAYS looking into trying out more Champagne.

  • How about this… If it’s a good $12 wine, you can call it a Namath wine. If it’s a bad $12 wine, it’s a Brady wine.

QOTD: Just picked up a few Famega vinho verdes for $6 each. It’s not the most complex wine in the world but on a hot day, I don’t know if it’s going to be beat.

  • Good Ep, Gary. Im _not_ really suprised, that the cloudy missed it, in relation to the pricepoint. A Huge brand for sure (also well known in the German market), but just not performing that well.
QOTD: Riesling for sure, followed by sauvignon blanc, weissburgunder, naked chardonnay …etc

QOTD: I am a red wine “lady” but am looking forward to warm sunny Minnesota afternoons with a chilled glass of white! I’ve enjoyed South African Pinotage and blends this winter … and look forward to exploring South African Chardonays! Maybe a New Zeal Sauv Blanc now! The “grass bomb” kinda turns me on!

Qotd: I’m looking forward to some of the lighter wines i don’t drink too often. Thats actually quite a few since i’m more of a heavy, red wine person, but I really want to try the lighter and more unusual/unique wines, kind of like the Brachetto I had last weekend.

Gary, what’s the deal with cat pee? You wrote it on the board, it’s common in New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs, but you didn’t metion it once in the wines you reviewed. Was it not present or not worth mentioning?

QOTD: My local shop has some wines from Bulgaria and I’m looking forward to trying the white wines.

  • Green Pea

I?m not real big on the Sauvignon Blanc. I can?t seam to find one to fits my niche.

QOTD: I?m going through Chile like a tornado. Once I?ve tried everything I can get my hands on I?m packing up and invading somewhere else.

I am really looking to hit a 2005 Bordeaux. Maybe 2nd growth, you really haven’t talked about 05 Bordeaux, given the ecomony I guess, do you think the price decrease is worth buying into some of the top estates?

Good show! I have recently tried a couple Sauvingon Blancs. I tried the Monkey Bay @ $8.99 and liked it pretty much. I also tried the Kendall Jackson @ 10 bones, but I didn’t care as much for it. I agree that it is a good pairing with sushi!

  • Adam J

QOTD: I’m looking forward to drinking more Mosel Riesling, as well as Fino Sherry, NZ Sav. blanc, and some rose. I can smell the BBQ now! Thanks for the show!
