Solid show, nothing crazy.
To be honest Sauvignon Blanc gets so much exposure these days that it’s hard to get too pumped about it.

I got inspired to get some Pecorino. Only 20 bottles in all of British Columbia and it was the one you had on the show. I am still waiting for the shipment coming from another one of the GOVERNMENT liqour stores.
I am sure it is worth the wait.

GARY — Can you do me a favor? Can you give a happy birthday shoutout to my girlfriend SARAH HORSEY? It’s her b-day on Wed, April 8th, and I know she’d love the happy birthday wishes. Thank you sir!!!

QOTD: Just recently visited a relatively NEW winery in Virginia called NOTAVIVA (http://www.notavivavineyards.com/), which I’m VERY excited about. They have a 4,000 sq ft timber frame 3-level building with tasting room, which was featured on HGTV’s “Dream House” during its construction. The owners work in the music engineering business and their big play is pairing wine with music. I’m excited to drink 2 bottles I bought from them: (1) 2007 “Cantabile” Cabernet Franc (Best paired with string quartets or cello concertos),(2)2007 “Build” Chambourcin (Best paired with traditional Celtic fiddle tunes) Gary, this place is awesome… you have to check it out!!!!

Wow, my first ever triple comment post on a show… per my 1st comment (happy b-day shoutout to my girlfriend Sarah Horsey), she has recently become a big fan of Vinho Verde. We just recently had a bottle of the 2007 Twin Vines that she liked quite a bit. Do you have a recommendation for a killer Vinho Verde I could get her for a b-day celebration? Thanks again!!

Just had a NZ SB this weekend and I love the fruit, grass, and acid! You did review the Chasing Venus last year and I bought a bottle of it on your recommendation – looking forward to having it soon…

QOTD – probably looking to save money – so I’ll be drinking what I already have on the rack. A good amount of Spanish and South France wines – should go well with BBQing!

On a recent trip to Chile, enjoyed their Sauvignon Blanc and Carmeniere wines. Looking for better quality wines from S. America.

A show after my heart. I have probably tried 10 to 15 of the Sauvignon Blancs not only from New Zealand but all over. I really enjoyed the Allan Scott but for an everyday enjoyment the Nobilio Regional and Nobilil Icon is my favorite. I am a devotee of the cat pee and citrus.

QOTD – Sauvignon Blanc, New Zealand, South Africa, Chile, not so much California but do enjoy Hanna.

In fact after my daughter delivered my new grandson, DID I MENTION I AM A GRANDFATHER AGAIN!!!!! I asked her what she would like for her first wine post delivery, and she advised that she would like a Sauvignon Blanc. I asked if she liked the New Zealand style or California style. She advised she would like a California and I immediately thought of Hanna. I have yet to find out if she enjoyed it or not but thanks to this format I was able to provide her with a wine I think she will enjoy.

    Hi Gary!

My boyfriend and I have tried a few New Zealand Sauvingnon Blancs recently. He loves you and has recently made me a big fan as well. For someone who is new to the wine world, you make things fun–thank you!

I’ll get extra girlfriend points if I can get him a birthday shout out (Joe T in New Paltz, NY) — it’s a big one…he’s turning 30! Help me out?

    Thank you!

  • I am looking forward to barbequeing a bit and drinking some nice moderately priced Rhones. As it get warmer, I surely will drink an assloaded of Sauv. Blanc; but hope to coach (and coax) some friends and family into some dry roses.

Well, a relative of mine is in California right now, so I told her to bring me back a bottle of ANYTHING from Napa Valley. That’s what I’m going to be looking forward to!

P.S. I really liked the chalk board message and how you didn’t acknowledge it at all. Good play.

I am pretty much done with NZ Sauv blancs, the QPR has evaporated for the most part. Still loving and trying to discover Orgegon Pinot Gris/Pinot Blanc and I heart Margaret River Riesling, but I want to turn the table and ask you GV. As the genie that called Chilean Pinot Noir and others, I need to know: Where is the next place I can find Rhone blanc varietals outside of the Rhone? Tell me oracle of Jersey, Where is the next hot spot for Roussanne or Marsanne? I love all shades of Rhone wines, but still can’t find anywhere they grow the Rhone varietals as excellent as the Rhone itself. Help me Obi Wan Jersey.

QOTD: Hopefully some good wines. Have been more into whites than reds lately. Wanting to drink some good Viogners, maybe a good dry rose

    PackersPride –

I’ll chime in with my opinion, which isn’t worth nearly what Gary’s is worth, but I’ve had some really tasty Rhone whites from the Central Coast Cali. wineries (Santa Rita Hills area)…maybe I haven’t had enough from the rest of the world to know, but what I’ve tried has been delicious.

    Good luck!

I’d rather smoke greass than drink it.
And I like my sauvignon blance the way I like my kissing. French.
Give me a Sancerre when it’s sauv blanc time. Now that’s a sip of summer.

  • QotD: Can’t wait to try some Hermann J. Wiemer Dry Riesling this Spring.

I actually have not yet tried a Sauvignon Blanc. I’ll have to dive into that as well.
The Chasing Venus sounds like it would be right up my alley.

I also am looking forward to trying a 100% Petit Verdot.

  • great show gary – love the varietal/region focused episodes, very educational

qotd – i’ve just been starting to rediscover some white grapes that a year ago i thought were garbage… namely chard and riesling, never actually had a wine from alsace so that’s definitely on the list. and as far as reds go, i always gotta love some high acid dolcettos and barberas

Hey Gary, good show. I’m a big fan of Sauvingon Blanc. Hopefully my local store has some Chasing Venus, its sounds like it would be something I like.

QOTD – I’m heading out to the North Fork, LI in early May, so I’m looking forward to drinking some LI whites outside on a nice Spring day.

  • Robin C

Just read about the book deal. It sounds phenomenal. I hope we get trailors or excerpts from the books as they come out. From enfant terrible to wine guru – also a nice jump.
QOTD: I’m looking forward to trying new wines. I just got a Bandol I haven’t tried yet. I’d like to drink more sparkling wines and champagne in the spring.
