line of the day – ‘I’d be a jerk not to mention the apple flavour in this wine’

Good solid episode, Gary pumped, in form and back on the couch.

  • So I missed the easter egg cutoff with Pino Gris, too busy at the Detroit Tigers Opening Day on Friday to watch the episode in a timly fashion. Game was great and the Tigers blew out the Rangers!

QOTD: Uhhh I partied just a little too hard yesteday for the Tigers opening day, and I need to take the rest of the weekend off; maybe just a little sample of something tomorrow though 😉 I’ll try to find something new to enchance my palate.

Nice chilled out show in preparation for Easter hols.

Your comments on the Jaboulet blanc, marsanne/rousanne blend was really interesting because Ive heard bad reports about the Jaboulet estate recently. My place of work has a bottle of the 99 lurking downstairs. Not sure how its holding up but I may have to purchase on the back of your show.

QOTD: Penfolds 389 2006 – couldnt resist opening it even though Im a few years short of the drinking window – I have another one though 😉

Ironically, I have a 2006 PERRIN & FILS Chateaneuf-du-Pape Blanc to drink this weekend. The Whites from the Rhone are incredible. When I was in the Rhone in 2005 the wineries mentioned only 5% of the whites are exported. I hope you are right and more White Rhones will be available here in the U.S.

QOTD: After a lot of church, Easter dinner with grilled lamb and

    Hacienda Cab
    TJ’s Old Moon Zinfandel

Maybe some Easter egg dying. Visit to friends. And thankfulness for life.

Darn! Ive been waiting for you to try a Cali foothills wine and look what happens. Oh well, but dont give up on us. Im drinking a 2005 Terra d’Oro, Home Vineyard, Amador County Zin, seems pretty good. Alot of the Italian variatals seem to do very well in this neck of the woods.

    Seghesio!!!
Read up on their history. Amazing. Bulk wine & white zin saved the old vine red zin!
I am into the Seghesio Old Vine 2006 Zin at the moment but they have so many great bottles. I was in love w/ the Cortina, then the Home Ranch (right next to Silver Oak Alexander Valley) & now the Old Vine. A friend of mine swears by the Sonoma County bottling.
Cheers. The Sasha show was a keeper.
    Go Mavs!!!!

I work in a PA Wine & Spirits shop. A lot of people buy VOGA. All I think is 48 points by Gary V. Their palates are wayyyyyy different as our biggest sellers are pink zin and any inexpensive pinot grigio (cavit, barefoot). They spend a zillion bucks on Ketel One or Patron but $10 is too much to spend on wine?? I was proud when I successfully encouraged a customer to try a Rueda and a Salice Salentino wine. I also ‘sold’ some rioja yesterday. I’m there to expand palates.

  • gahh! i would wait until AFTER easter. guess i miss out on the easteregg.

anywhoo had some alright wines this weekend. chianti and valpocella (spelling?) and they were both ALRIGHT. Also had a really nice red at my girlfriends house but I can’t remember what it was. Of course I wasn’t feeling well the day of the big family dinner so I missed out on all the good stuff.

keep up the awesome work! happy easter!

Gary, I’ve watched every episode of WLTV since becoming a vayniac in August. What does a guy have to do to get a single measly wristband already? And of course I caught this episode a day late…

QOTD: Drinking ’05 Symington Altano Douro on Saturday and ’05 Venta Mazzaron Tempranillo on Sunday. Spain and Portugal bringing some serious QPR Thunder to my world!

  • Wow interesting show, you say $36US for the white Hermitage, those are more like $66 around these parts, mainly the reason I have never bought one.

QOTD: I’m just seeing this show on friday morning, we had a family weekend, with food and activities; we drank beer, lambrusco and a white bordeaux. There was even a pool painting on sunday evening.

  • Hi Gary–I haven’t left a message in a long time, but thought I’d share (after the fact) that I had prepared Turkey for the family and kept things light–I worked over Mandolin 2005 Merlot w/dinner, friends, and family..
