Great episode but I did miss Sasha.
The comment timing the slap on the forehead was classic.

QOTD: Did a wine dinner at 11 Madison Park with the Cavalier Barolo as all food was from the Piedmont region. Not my favorite but I still appreciate all of your suggestions.

Great episode. I’m going to have to try a Hermitage Blanc soon. I’ve been drinking a lot of white Rhone varieties from the Rhone and from California, but I haven’t had an Hermitage Blanc yet. I do think some of this community enjoys your pain, but I also think (or hope) it’s all in good fun. thanks!

nothing this weekend.wife is catholic and she is busy.tried the 05 sansonnetlast night and will have to buy more.tried other zins from renwood,e.g.,old vines.the local retailer had loaded up on this and quickly sold it.asked me what i thought.not exactly the “oak monster”. more like a mouthful of chewed up dry stems.

GV – Loved seeing Papa Sasha. Great one. Good to see the couch back. I think it would be very cool and a lot of fun to watch a long episode. Make a 60 min job one day!! Just out of no-where.

Where is the Root beer episode…..???? Really looking forward to that, its one of my favorite things in the world.

QOTD: Meeting my family in Newark for dinner. No idea what I am drinking, but I am willing to bet it’s going to spanish red wine. Looking forward to seeing everyone as always. Tim permitting might get to stop by the wine lib

  • nice episode, I will try both of the wines as I am a huge fan of zinfandel, and would like the challenge of pairing food with this wine.

Qotd: Working for the holidays (clock never stops for a cook), and Im currently drinking “seven deadly zins”.

Hey Gary, I’ve been checking out WLTV for the past 5 months or so as a lurker and thought I’d comment. I’m in Baghdad and have only been able to taste good wines during my leave periods back home, but surprisingly I can get some fairly decent stuff out here… sometimes. Anyway, as I am in Iraq, a friend of mine went to the embassy store and brought me back a 2006 McWilliam’s Hanwood Estate Chardonnay. Yeah, ok, not totally exciting, but for what is available it’s not too bad! I’d definitely order something exceptional from winelibrary.com but sending alcohol to APO addresses is sadly illegal.

QOTD – I am going to a wine tasting this afternoon and will drink whatever they are pouring today. Then going to brunch tomorrow with friends who are wine lovers. Not sure which wine we will order to go with it. Then maybe a good pinot in the evening.

QOTD: Dyeing Easter eggs. Making a Turner boneless ham (brought back from Virginia trip) and bringing it to my Godmother’s house to have with family.
Going to enjoy some of the Virginia wines also brought back from the recent trip(we all know you can’t have them shipped to NJ) Might throw in the Lily Sonoma Coast Pinot noir(representing the Easter Lily).

Oops forgot the Easter Egg–that would be Pinot Gris. I’m probably about the 100th person to answer…..

Gary I don’t know where you go to order something weird like hen, partridge, pheasant, etc but it cracks me up every time you recomend them to pair with wine.

QoTD: Had a 2006 Louis Latour Pino with a friend for his birthday and it was awesome, chocolate and sour cherry all the way.

Last time you were on the lazy couch: Epi 148? I cant remember, but I laughed my lungs out during that episode! So, it was fun!

Easter egg on Facebook: Pinot Gris

QOTD: I just had a Jacob’s Creek Reserve riesling 2007, and had their reserve Shiraz 2006. Both average wines, nothing much to shout about. Currently, sipping on some sake after a dinner at a friend’s place earlier on this evening.

    Have fun in SD!

  • Ahhhh, laid back Friday. Nice to see it back. The last time you did it was…I can’t remember…forever ago?! When was the last time the JETS bucket was on our left (your right), now that’s real trivia? That Zin looked like Twitter Zin, LOL.

QOTD: I’ll be with the in-laws drinking whatever my brother-in-law brings to the table.

  • QOTD–Drinking Holy Saturady (day before Easter) at family party: Berger Gruner Veltliner with asparagus-based salad, followed by Santa Rita Reserva Carmenere 2004 with brisket main cours. Enjoy your show and use it often for research for newspaper column I write for San Angelo (TX) Standard-Times. Here’s link to archive of those columns, one of which in future is about you and your show: http://www.cwadv.com/wine_column.php

  • Great episode! You gotta hit up the laid back Fridays thing more often, man.

QOTD: I’m drinking the 2005 Jean-Claude Boisset Bourgogne Pinot Noir and enjoying it quite a bit. I’m also working on my new beer/wine culture/review website! Working out details of providing maps and localized content!

Huge fan of the Rhone whites. Terrific big bodied white wines. You should
try Treana from central coast CA (viognier/marsanne) blend. A slammin
    bottle for 20 bones.

QOTD: Glazed ham, cranberried brussel sprouts, sweet potato casserole
carrot cake for dessert. Drinking a Rheinhessen scheurebe by
Geil and a dry Creek Valley (my favorite) zin – probably Roshambo
    or Dashe

I thought an Easter show could’ve been Bouchard’s Vigne de l’Enfant Jesus, but that stuff’s well over $100 anymore. It wasn’t always so….

That Jaboulet Hermitage looks beautiful – fat, weighty, oily. I don’t drink much in this style (or varietals, for that matter), but know what I’d eat with ’em, when I do – Lobster. Or as you nailed it – game fowl- esp. Cornish Hens, cause they’re inexpensive, available, and easy to do. Other than them, chicken hardly holds any appeal. Partridge is good, though! And that 14.5% is integral to the structure of these grape’s potential agebility. Good call.

As for Renwood – again – my Zin affinity is years behind me, and tend to not enjoy such fruit intensity anymore. Renwood did make a strong impression on me- and it may even have been the famous Fiddletown, but it was like, a dozen or so years ago, when Scott Harvey was the winemaker. I thought Paul Draper had some sort of affiliation with them once, but I had since, seen them make a major play for expansion, and the results were not remarkable. I remain something of a Renwood skeptic, though I know how great Amador is for Zin.

QotD – I gotta go see a Brooklyn band called Shades of Bacchus (good name). One of the guys is from Brooklyn’s Robbers on High Street, and they befriended us several tours back, so Gf’s all into it- but it’s at an adventurous little place, http://www.pat‘sintheflats.com – great for music/art, shitty for beer, etc. unless you qualify PBR and Straub as beer. Wine has not been introduced to this corner of the universe as of this writing.

Wish you all, and yours a Happy Easter!
