I like this guest, he took some body blows and rolled with them really well. Not the sort of wines i’d go for but good luck to him, at least he’s honest.

Love the back story to these wines. Keep educating us with the different looks inside wine.

  • I really enjoyed the discussions on marketing and I think the wine industry should start quantifying QPR. However, the guest didn’t really sell me on his wines. Usually Gary tells us to stick up for our own palettes and the guest made it sound like those of us who drink cheap wine wouldn’t appreciate a well balanced wine.

QOTD: I guess I’m jaded. I grew up in Napa, and I knew a lot people who made wine but had no wineries. And they didn’t just sell the cheap stuff either! Your losing your romance whether you buy cheap or not, you might as well just judge a wine by its taste and its price. Everything else is an uncertainty.

Gary and the bunch are on a roll! Some fun guests as of late.

This guy, JZ, definitely has a different approach to wine. His entrepreneurial take might, in the long run hurt the product, but then again, he is trying to please a public which is more easy-drinking-now focused.

QOTD: The bottom line is, are you buying wine to drink it now with a bunch of friends who know little or nothing about wine, or are you collecting bottles to share with the privileged few friends or family members. Wines that taste good young appeal to a fair share of the consumer ratio. However, some people buy wines to collect and age them, which requires a certain pedigree and consistency.

    Bravo!

  • Mr Cook

Mangini wants to start his tenure with an “expansion” team.

QOTD:Delicious is delicious, estate or not, does not stop me from purchasing a wine.

If the Browns win a Super Bowl in the next two years, I’ll buy pallats of this wine!!!!

    GARY!!
    Good Ep…

QOTD: I would definitely BUY an estate wine 1st, with the anticipation of how it will be… Obviously, if I already know what both taste like, I would pick whats best!

    🙂

    Luv ya Gary!

I like this guy. I liked this show. He didn’t pretend. He was straight
up w/ what he was looking to do – market and sell to the masses. Plus he was
droppin some pretty good wine knowledge re the residual sugar stuff (us
upstate fingerlakes riesling drinkers are Very familiar w/ rs).

QOTD: Absolutely 100% Not. A good negociant is just as passionate about
fruit (who’s growing it, how they growing it, etc.) As an
estate producer. Hell some of our best Burgundies are negociant
    wines.

PS – Have a store around the corner that was carrying the pizza vino
line as of earlier this year.

Cool show, good guest.Gary you cut him off right before you introduced the first wine, brutal.

QOTD; If somethings a certain price, it’s like anything, where do you think it’s from.

I love great homemade pizza, and I disagree that a red on the sweet side pairs well because you have the sweetness of the tomato and sausage in the sauce. I think a crisper red with some back end tannins is the perfect contrast for the taste buds.
    Smell it first. TR

Enjoyed the episode. But……. The guy obviously is into his wine and is a good guy. But its all about the marketing for him. The Salice Salentino example. It’s reality but it takes me back to one of your video blogs about doing what you are passionate about. I dont get that he is passionate about what he is doing here (but I have no doubt he is – it just does not come across). The wines are just OK and that was borne out in your evaluation. Felt it was a bit strained. But, I wish him well, he is a good guy.

QOTD : Its all about the quality / price ratio for me. If the story is good but the wine does not match up, it wont work for me.

QOTD: Given the choice, I would opt for the Estate Wine but as always it come down to taste, regardless of price or how it was made.

I love the courage of entrepreneurs, that’s a compliment to the guest and the host.

This guy is taking on big businesses in a field he seems to really enjoy, in a harsh and getting harsher economy. I’d buy a case of wine from him for not just quitting and getting a government job.

Also, you were probably pressed for time or something, but it would have been nice to let the wine air out and to see how it went with the pizza.

  • Peter89

Taking that one point off in front of the camera really takes a lot of effort on your part, Gary. For your guest to keep his composure throughout the whole thing was also impressed me as well. If I was in either of your seats I would be going crazy with the stress. Honestly, I’ll buy wine from this guy just because he was very straightforward with his whole pitch and handled himself well.

  • People need to care about honesty as much as Gary does.
I’m tired of people being nice just because they don’t want to hurt someone else’s feelings.

I like this guy. Normally the name of the guest is put in the episode description, don’t know why it’s not there today. Good back stories on the wines. And i’m always a fan of non conventional labeling.

    Keep up the honesty Gary.
If you stop being so honest, i may stop watching.
