I like this guest, he took some body blows and rolled with them really well. Not the sort of wines i’d go for but good luck to him, at least he’s honest.

Football, Baseball, Basketball… how about those NY Rangers taking the first game against the Caps?

    great show as usual Gary

Pizza gets a bad rap again. It’s about as real a food as any. Why drink cheap wine because you’re having pizza?
Good information though, and a great guest. He reveals alot about the industry’s dark side. It’s like music made for the masses. Some of it is fun.

  • A very fitting title to this episode. I like the pizza on the label it’s unique and fun.

QOTD: tough one, I would say that if conditions were the same and satisfying to my taste, indifferent of bottled or grown, I wouldn’t mind buying the lower priced wine for a Saturday or Sunday lunch, and the higher priced one for an evening with friends. either way they have to taste good to me.

    Very good show Gary Vee.

Interesting show, I really appreciate the honesty. Selling quality and value is perfectly fine by me – there is no deception involved here.

QOTD – I don’t have a strong feeling one way or the other, especially for carefully and/or thoughtfully made wines. However, I do like the thought of legacy and sustainability. By not owning/working the same land, consistency is more difficult.

Gary the show rocks. As a cook. I would love to see more food pairings. I feel you should have you’re Father on all the time. You two have A great Chemistry. As a father of three sons, It was a joy to see.

  • Joe Zaucha did you go to Hoban are you from Cuyahoga Falls?

Nice to see Ohio folks on the show again.

QOTD: Depends on the occasion. Am I drinking with friends? Weekday Weekend, Or Holiday? Is it a gift? How much am I spending?

Interesting show. I don’t think I would ever go for the first two wines, but I could probably stomach the cab. It was a good show to remind us of the marketing/labeling/appeal factors involved in wine sales to the masses.

QOTD: As long as it is a good tasting wine (for my palate), I am OK with it. I never want to lose access to single vineyard, estate grown/bottled wines though! But, like many who have commented here before me, I have had some delicious/memorable “negociant” (and cooperative) wines.

I am moving in the direction of wine geek (but not wine snob!) and I want to continue that journey!

Bring on the acid, the asparagus, the slate, etc….. those wine notes that make drinking exciting and knowing the story behind the wine interesting.

I find it inetersting that people would not TRY a wine because of a someone else’s opinion. I mean; there is no doubt that Gary has a great palette, but I am certain that I like different foods and wines than him. To let someone decide which wines are good for you is not what it is all about. I think Gary would back me up on that.

QOTD: I prefer an estate with low yields that does not mass produce. I love knowing that the wine that am drinking comes from a single vineyard or from a estate in diffrent countries with allot of history and terrior On the other hand I dont mind drinking a negociant wine .

QOTD: I tend to go more for estate wines because they usually represent the type of wine I’m looking for. What matters is the quality not the label. But negociant wines tend to market themselves in the lower price/quality bracket, so I don’t really understand the question.

I have had all three of these wines (lots of them)and they all have a place. There is nothing better than a couple bottles of Once Bitten Riesling on a boat with friends on a hot day.

    Estate wines VS Wine.
    Perception Perception.

it is what all of the wine business is about.

Good wines are good wines. and every winery and every country makes some winners and Losers!

if the wines are in most stores they are not estate wines! mostly.

I was in Vinitaly last week and tasted Italy’s most tannic wines, Sagrantino, with a great meal and the tannins melted away.

I do struggle with sweet for the masses wines though.

    Hi Gary !
Here we are with the truth in Riesling : It is the best example for the Quality-
/Quantity-Principal i.e. the larger the cuveé the less the quality!Quite obvious
when you try a wine from the large wine cellars in Germany and compare these to
the small estate producers. And … accounts for the bad reputation that german wines had for a long time in the world. Thank god that is changing ! And maybe – one day they might reconquer the pole position for wines in the world ;-)))

Your most informative and useful show in a long time, Gary. Your guest is obviously in the wine business to provide a good, well-priced product for consumers; he’s not in it for vanity. He’s honest and straightforward. I’ll buy his wines simply because he’s admirable.

QOTD: No problem here with negociant wines.

    1) I sooooo hope that 28:02 is some kinda joke!!

    2) Mott.. what gives.. 85 and no jersey..

    3) Go Bucks..

QOTD: I want to say F*** it who cares.. But to be honest guess I do have a bias towards estates. And also single vineyards for that matter, believing that they will be better.. Gary how bout a show where our “favorites” are shown to be negociant.

    Hey Gary,
I liked that you were very honest as usual!
QOTD: Sadly I do think that I would tend to the estate wine. I would like to be more open towards other producers but I still have to lern that!

Best guest in a while. Real guy with a good business head. The wine that he is bringing is what people need to drink to begin to like and understand wine. Most new wine drinkers don’t like acid. They need time to grow into it. Anyway, QOTD – Good is always better than pretty good. Even if pretty good has a fancy name and bigger price.

    Gary,

Great show! Your guest JZ was extremely knowledge and entertaining. I respect his passion and drive to be successful in this competitive industry. I love the Pizza Vino label! Marketing sells at least once, taste will bring you back. It ?jumps? at you on the shelf?I have purchased it multiple times?it is grand with the pie?should of eaten the pizza! Also bodes well in a ?Panic? plastic cup and the pre-game tailgate. Go Browns!

  • QOTD:

I do not care at all!

BTW I loved the show. I like that your quest is so honest! I want to sell pallets of wine” That will not spark with the wine geeks but there are more wine dabblers than geeks. I also love that he is not apologizing for wanting to sell to the masses! When this is available in Indiana I would love to give all of them a whirl! I admit that I often buy wines, beer, well nearly everything because the label has a ton of “COOL” factor. Sometimes I am disappointed! But it was fun! Thanks for a great show!

QOTD: Value, ulitmately, is determined by getting the wine into the mouth, not necessarily by how it got into the bottle.

SIDE NOTE: Thanks GV for letting Joe give the Browns some love. We’ll chalk it up to the “Mangini Effect” and let it go at that. Peace.

Great episode… JZ brought a different point of view that you have not covered here…

Props to him for giving it a go… hope he’s successful…

QOTD: As long as the wine brings the THUNDER, it doesn’t matter… everyone can always save a few $$

  • Chris – Lyon, France

Very interesting to see how people respond to these label designs. I have complete respect for JZ and his vision, as it is obviously going down well with a lot of people so he is nailin ghis market.

For me, the giant pizza on the bottle would make me think that the wine is of low quality and is only fit to be drunk with the powerful flavour of pepperoni. I would never judge it without tasting it, but surely the design team wouldn’t want to put people off? I thought this about the Riesling bottle as well, which makes me think of a cheap cider. Marketing is clever, and judging by these responses, the designers understand people a lot better than I do!

Anyway, an interesting episode, nice one guys.

    Good Show, Great Guest.

I would buy a case of the Pinot and a case of the Cab. But being in Nittany Lion country here, I would have to steer clear of the Buckeye !!!

QOTD: If it tastes good, drink it.

PS – Love the labels, good job JZ !!!
