line of the day – ‘if this wine was 12-13 dollars I would cartwheel off this stage and start hugging everybody’

Monster performance from GV in front of a live audience. Handles a rowdy crowd and a dodgy sound system with great skill and is completely in his element. Phenomenal.

Good show ,to bad that crowd wouldn’t shut up.
I guess everyones on the cruise.

  • Tough to watch with that much crowd noise. Too bad about the Fiano. I’ve only had two, but I really enjoyed both.

    Irouleguy show please!

I like fiano lot, it’s a shame that one showed so poorly. Vesevo and Terradora are the only ones I’ve been able to find ’round here, though.

  • Please Please Gary invest in a wireless camcorder microphone. The show would be some much better.

To be honest I kinda thought Gary overdid the sh-sh-ing a bit. The internet audience is many times bigger than the crowd he was talking to. He should have maybe done it once and after that just spoken more directly to the internet audience. There’s teaching and then there’s being a stick in the mud.

  • I was there and the crowd was not overly disrespectful – they were talking about the wines. Also, blame the W for planning a 3 hour cocktail period before the show…

QOTD: The Mets getting swept in four games at Petco last summer while I endured constant abuse in the stands.

FWIW … sounds like this crowd was tame when compared to GV’s wine2.0 gig @ Webster Hall.

I liked the content of this episode, but the sound and picture were horrible. The crowd noise almost had me not watching the whole thing.

qotd: nice weather, fake-as-heck southern California folk (my apologies to anyone down there not in this category; I know it’s not everyone)

This episode reminded me of when I used to be a high school teacher! SSSSSHHHH! Cocktail hour(s) from 4-7 before a show makes for happy, ranbunctious, talkative people I see.

QOTD: Bikinis, nice beaches, dummies, avocados on chicken salads, yoga, bikinis, and dummies.

    QOTD: drought and wildfires

It was a bit of a project to hear what you were saying, and I appreciate you soldiering through the din.
It didn’t seem like the people in the room were particularly interested in you being there…

    Love the show Gary,

Crowd was a bit loud, but fairly well behaved considering you were taping a show. Was that Chardonnay ‘SHOCKINGLY FRESH’???? Big surprise to see a burg with a screw cap….Keep bringing the thunder GARY!!!

    QOTD…Never been to San Diego

The crappy production is really getting old. I know it’s supposed to be a man of the people thing, stripped down and hip, but this was unwatchable.

  • Man, that crowd would not be quite. I know people want to converse, and there is fun in some discussion. However, the teacher in me knows that when there is a speaker it’s just plain rude to talk while a speaker is talking.

QOTD: I didn’t get there yet because I had to share this even though I’m only 15 minutes into the video.

QOTD: Judging from that video I would have to say rude, self-absorbed millenials. I’m old, I know that. But we were trained to show some respect and not act like WE were the show. Unfortunately, I noticed the same thing at the 500th episode taping in San Francisco. Maybe the threat of Daddy’s belt wasn’t such a bad thing after all.

Jeeezzz – Despite everything wrong here (the RUDE noisiness is only half of it) – we still love you, and thank you G, for YOUR best efforts.

I’ve seen you do this before – despite your intention to expand PALS, and educate, you botched it in a big way on at least two GLARING accounts which I can immediately see:

    1. The order of wines is completely messed up. The Fiano is clearly the most delicate flower here, and practically has NO place in a room full of distractions who wouldn’t even KNOW how to give a wine proper, mindfull attention- not even a moment to contempate it, what it is, or what it is doing. 86pts Gallani/Wine Advocate does not constitute a wine that ‘stinks’. Particularly in front of a mass of people who are inattentive, impressionable, and possibly drinking on their big Friday night out. (At that point, you’re just hamming/showboating in front of the crowd for their attention, which is clearly fleeting. May I suggest you share more Fiano di Avellino with our audience from the relative sane solitude of your office with simple crudites, creamy cheese/dip, or something nice like a stuffed squash blossom. Prefferably before engaging a much bigger Sauvignon Blanc.

    2. C’mon man. I just said it last week (pg 3 of comments) on the Alsace show. (Even American) Pinot Blanc/Bianco IS NOT ABOUT MASSIVE AROMAS, BODY, OR FLAVORS. It is about nice, apple and pear flavor, refreshing, and quaffable. Your Friday night crowd could slug this stuff down, but don’t ask it to be huge, sugary, American style Chardonay butter bomb. It also, should have been before the big acid (and fruit) of the Nautilus, and it would have worked well in tandem next to the Burgundy, which could have gone 3rd, or last.

QotD – San Diego? Near perfect weather. Gaslight Diistrict dining. The Casbah. pop-meisters fluf.

QOTD: I don’t have enough room to answer. San Diego is near perfect. I live in PA. And I believe Southern CA is the best place to live. Been there. Done that. Miss that. Hope to move back some day.

Vernaccia di San Gimignano may have brightened things or some Rueda or some Gruner Veltliner. We’ll see what the reds bring on Part 2.
