92/100

line of the day – ‘if this wine was 12-13 dollars I would cartwheel off this stage and start hugging everybody’

Monster performance from GV in front of a live audience. Handles a rowdy crowd and a dodgy sound system with great skill and is completely in his element. Phenomenal.

QOTD: Many many things, but just now, spear fishing Point Loma by day, and singing live band karaoke at the 710 by night.

Bad quality tape… a the whites were a little disappointing… let’s hop the RED episode is better…

    QOTD: SeaWorld, what else…?

I was there at the show (one of the quiet ones 😉 – it was definitely loud in the room, but for the most part, it was good chatter about the wines – what we were smelling, tasting… Apart from the poor sound quality in the video, I think it’s a huge compliment to both Gary and the wine world that so many people, mostly young like myself, were excitedly discussing the wines, his tasting comments, and the show. ‘Course, there were a few people being just plain rude, but most people were paying close attention, if loudly.
I thought Gary was wearing some mic, or had one nearby, for the show. Maybe this is the solution… at live venues, use a mic for sound quality, and let the people chit-chatter away about the wines and the show. Best of both worlds, and then the glass would be more than half full for all involved.

Gary, You seemed to have even more energy than usual doing the episode in front of a live crowd! Those also were some impressive spits.

QOTD: The first thing that popped into my mind is the Chargers, even though I’m not a fan.

Ehhhhhhhhhh, got kind of aggravating with all the background noise. I’m shocked that many people were chatting and having conversations while you were recording the Thunder Show!!!

QOTD: “Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale’s vagina.” — Ron Burgundy, Anchorman

  • QOTD: San Diego, it’s a toss up – (1) Anchorman Scene or (2) Chargers.

I like seeing Matt in the hot seat because he picked out the wines. And apparently you’re still balling like P Diddy the way your poured out that Fiano.

Hey long time viewer (episode 200 or so) but first time to comment! Love the show and love all of the different wines Gary gets us to expand our palletes with, without him i would still be buying all the same wines and not enjoy the experience nearly as much as i do now

QOTD: Sea world and a trip there as a kid

Maybe they’re accustomed to being drowned out by the airport traffic noise.

QOTD: Aircraft approaches that sear the paint on the roof of the cars below – to touch down at the airport with no Duty Free shop. Harbour full of cruise ships (with Duty Free shops, thank goodness). Lots of public washrooms for tourists returning from Mexico. Oh, did you say the first thing? Balmy weather.

Gary, I could have come out from Phoenix and taped this with a mic, a real camera and real lights. For you, I would have done it for free.

Please consider enlisting the help of your fanbase the next time you find yourself in a dark, noisy room trying to do a show. There are tons of people out here with the know-how who are willing to help you — don’t be afraid to ask!

Enjoyed the show apart from the noisy audience. Great job handling them but REALLY, how hard is it to listen for 20 mins. Hate that. If they wanted to drink, as opposed to taste and learn from the great man, they should have stayed in the bar. Still, you kept the show going well. I probably would have started throwing the spit bucket at someone 😉

That screwcap Bourgogne, thats a wine moment there. Amazing and good to see.

QOTD : Visiting the zoo with my beautuful wife when we visited on holidays a few years ago. Reminds me of one of our great holidays touring San Francisco aswell. Happy days.

  • Great show! I was there with my wife and some friends in the front row, loved every minute except for the disrespectful ‘chatty-chat’ (not to be confused with ‘sniffy-sniff’). It wasn’t us! What a treat to see Gary live.
    Go Chargers!

    QOTD: constant sunshine all warm-n-fuzzy . . . shhhhhh . . . and now, constant chatter.

Live shows are, well, live. They are always much better when attended than watched. Having never been to one of your appearances, it was still interesting to get a small feel of the ambiance. Like a lot of wine enthusiasts, the only sure-fire way to get them to be quiet is to make sure they are drinking at the moment. Peace.
