line of the day – ‘I killed the sink’

GV in his element here with no distractions. There’s no getting away from it – he’s one hell of an entertaining guy. I think if he strapped the flipcam to his head and walked around with it all day I’d probably be addicted to watching the results. What does that say about me? Better not think too hard about it!

  • Hi Gary,
Thanks for the tasting on the hotel wines. We sell this wine in our shop and we love it. Its a big seller and the price point is $11.95 retail. So I hope others out there will enjoy it as much as we do.

    Thanks

mark sanchez is instantly the best QB on your team. He’s almost as good as kevin o’connell, and way better than old man favre.

Terrible trade, maybe sanchez has a decent carrer, but they gave up a ton for him, including a few veterans. And besides who’s to say he wouldn’t have slipped down the board like rodgers did a few years ago. Nevermind even the fact that they’ll have to sign him to a much larger contract than any pick that’s 10th or lower. Contrast this trade with all the trades that the patriots made where they traded down and added picks, and you can see how and why one team builds a dynasty and the other just sucks on draft day every year. How long before they add this year’s trade to this youtube montage http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZxNeFLuY98

Gary drafting a QB in the first round, dangerous.

I’m really enjoying your shows in general and liking the educational value especially in terms of tasting wine and breaking down the initial, mid, and finish of wine on the palate.

    Thanks for the help,

Earl from the Quails’ Gate Wine Shop.

P.S. You should try to sample the 2007 Family Reserve Pinot, I think its the best yet. Good luck with your QB!

Another great hotel episode! Usually I scroll through the comments, but it’s late and so I’m just going to assume that no one else has already pointed out how your utilization of the mirror brought to mind Van Eyck’s “Arnolfini Wedding Portrait.” You are Van Eyck and the two wines are Giovanni and Giovanna–perfect!

I had to laugh at your which glass is which dilemma. Our tasting group sometimes holds blindfold–I mean, we’re really masked men and women!–tastings where the evening’s sommelier will purposely serve again a wine offered earlier. It fosters humility when the so-so pinot noir becomes an interesting sangiovese on the second tasting. I’ll never be a MW, but I admire your going between the horns and just slurking juice down from the bottle to settle the question!

Yeah, Coppola’s wines are just OK, and marketing and mark-up hype makes them QPV losers.

So nice to be able to hear you again. These Chilean wines can not be underestimated as true value plays – there is alot out of real quality out there and the prices have not yet caught up!
QOTD – Hotel – Has to be a Club Sandwich!

  • Last year my wife and I ate at KO Prime in Boston at the Nine Zero Hotel. We’d had a long day of travel and got a table at KO at about nine. The atmosphere was swank and interesting. The restaurant is beautiful and the bar had a bunch of good cocktails and a nice wine list. What I remember most was the bone marrow appetizer I had. It was my first marrow experience and it blew me away. So good.

Hope the Sanchez pick works out GV, that’s a lot to give up. I love the Vikes picking Harvin.

The two best meals I have ever eaten are in the same city, Sarasota, Florida. Filet mignon on the bone @ Flemings was excellent. The at Vernona, Rita Carlton, was teriffic. The service and ambiance made the meal more enjoyable.

PS: I have a bottle of Penfolds Grange 2001. Is it ready? How long to breathe?

I’m jealous of the Surf and Sand entry (Splashes). Beautiful view there!!!!! Honestly I prefer lunch on The Terrace at Hotel Laguna. View. View. CA is awesome.

QOTD: I guess it would be a meal on our honeymoon in Hawaii. However I can’t remember a specific meal. It was 1993.

  • Hey Gary, was that you looking distraught over the Sanchez pick? or was it my imagination?

Could have done without the spit-in-the-sink shots; thanks for sparing us that last one. Good show otherwise.

Root 1 makes a pretty tasty Sauvignon Blanc, too — also at the $7-9 retail price point.

“Would I pay $32 for it? No!”

    I love the irony here

I am intrigued by all the comments about the draft pick, I must check that out. Great quick show, I am glad you did the Root 1, I have been eyeing it at the grocery store.

Apparently the WSJ sportswriter didn’t recognize Gary. Here’s what he wrote this AM. “ESPN’s cameras found a few Jets cynics wailing and arrhythmically shaking their hrads, as if they’d been told that Radio City had run out of beer.” BEER!? Not Wine??

I did recognize Gary. It wasn’t too good for his image, but I’m still a big fan of Gary’s and winelibrarytv.

BTW The Pats have 4 2010 second round picks:)
