90/100

line of the day -‘This is the first bee on Winelibrary TV’

Good solid guest and good solid show but the highlight for me (as a Jets fan) is the opening 5 minutes which is all about the Sanchez trade in the draft (probably boring as hell for non-Jets/nfl fans…but that’s tough)

  • I can’t believe Gary pulled out some old-school Martika! LOVE IT.

Enjoyed seeing Tim on the show.

QOTD: I’d work forever but I’d make sure it was something that wasn’t making me wish for a shorter life. My own business perhaps, something with flexibility and most importantly something that is consistently enjoyable.

  • I just hope that Malbec doesn’t turn into another Pinot Grigio or Pinot Noir, where every large, commercial wine producer puts out a malbec.

I just enjoyed my first Xarel-Lo. It was 2005 Castell Roig, Xarel-Lo. GV liked the 2006 about a year ago. I found the 2005 last summer and it was tasty today. Perfect on a warm sunny day with a light dinner.

liked the show, have similar vocabulary problems describing wine, especially the aromatics. liked the final breakdown on the oak monster as not being sustainable over 3 or 4 glasses, very good job of translating by Gary.

QOTD: Technically, already ‘retired’ once, but it was from a job I loved (Navy) as that was a young mans game. So now I work a different job. And if I ever retire from this, expect I’ll do another job…so no change really.

  • Great show today! I loved 4 hour work week. Tell Tim I have applied the principles and am starting to live the dream!

Hah! Thanks for the shout out Gary, the cruise was awesome. Anyone who thought about going but didn’t should definitely check it out next year. Quite a few good malbecs and other Argentine wines at the super tasting for sure (Poesia, Ksana, the Camino del Inca was really tasty…70% Tannat). I love malbecs with marinated skirt steak, Costa Rican style (shout out to Irazu in Chicago).

QOTD: Wow, that’s a tough question. I would hope one could continue to do whatever makes them happiest, or concentrate harder on trying to get to that point for the long-run. Lots of people seem to wait for retirement to travel, but I’m trying to see as many places as possible now as well…so many amazing places to see, you gotta start young and see the world whenever you can.

  • Great show Gary and Tim! I just got finishing reading the Four Hour Work Week, two weeks ago. Loved it! and plan to read it again with a notebook handy.

QOTD: Photographer, preferrably a nature photographer.

Great show. I like to hear about the wines you taste on the show and then Gary gives a few of his favorites from the same grape.

QOTD – I probably will work at the same job I’ve had for 30 yrs only take some additional time off to volunteer, travel, hobbies and maybe even see grandkids if I’m so blessed.

Hey guys! Quality show as always. Tim is an amazing guy. The bits of random knowledge you dropped throughout the episode on various things was great.

QOTD: ‘Retire’ is such a misnomer. It makes it seem like a person gives up his or her ‘life’ of the past 30 or years to finally be happy. I don’t ever expect my life to be without projects (be it people or products/companies), so I plan to move on to new projects or finally finish some old ones. ‘Retirement’ will just be a formal deal not to work at a specific company on a given project anymore… no reason not to continue another on my own or somewhere else… always developing or working towards something new πŸ˜‰

I don’t know why but the guest gets on my nerve a little bit
Argentina is definitely the best value of the world, sorry Portugal

QOTD The same than today, as working in the wines and spirits biz, but would go back to France where I’ll have much more vacation !

Cheers GV keep up the good work

  • I hope for the best in Sanchez but I have to be honest GV, it’s not going to happen. Nadda’.

And oh hell yes on the Argentina shout outs. I will add as well, Argentina rips bruts (think champagne) and syrahs (insanely underrated) and a crap load of solid whites, think torrentes, chardonnay and others. It’s not just about malbec done here.

And there is no cow on earth that can compete with the beef here. Fact.

  • First off, had an amazing time on the cruise and after the shirt ripping I can vouch you are definitely getting into ping pong.

QOTD: For me work is all about continued learning. I could never work a job where I didn’t get the opportunity to challenge myself. My current job started to get that way and I forced myself into a new role where I could expand my responsibilities. I now enjoy work again as I am learning.

I think as long as you make that you play you will never find yourself truly retired. Even if it isn’t a traditional job, I think there are always opportunities to do something interesting and exciting.

In this episode I thank for two things. Firstly I was so taken aback on your ESPN reaction, that I immediately wanted an answer from u via Twitter (@resamor)-now I understand, when listening to ur rational & detailed explanation. Secondly, thank for info about the Argentinian Malbec, I will definitely give it a “SNIFFY SNIFF.”

  • Good One: The bee was a fantastic little addition to the thunder show.

For me, Salentein Malbecs or Las Moras malbecs have been keeping their quality for a while now, I recommend you try them.

QOTD: Oh, well, planning should become part of the equation and wanting to learn new things could also be applied in changing your ideals for a lifetime of working and doing what you love.

    GREAT episode with good company….

QOTD: I don’t have a retirement plan, and as much as I am pursuing two very different careers simultaneously (actor by day, wine director/sommelier by night) I can’t imagine what in the WORLD I would do if I wasn’t working in some capacity. I’m all about the HUSTLE, and I think I’ll be in this mindset until the end of my days… VIVA LA HUSTLE!

I liked this episode. Now I want to go to Argentina even more than I did before.
qotd: I don’t think it would change anything for me at this point. I am making an effort to do what I love as a job, so I don’t see why I would want to stop.

Things I love about this episode:
    1. Guest Tim Ferris. Tim and Gary are my two favorite online personalities! They seem very comfortable together and had a good energy here.
    2. The fact that Tim is totally UNINTERESTED in football, and sits there patiently as Gary goes on and on and on about the Jets. Hilarious!
    3. How Tim refuses the bucket every time.
    4. The bee flying into the set. First time ever, apparently, that this has happened.
    5. How Tim mouths the words “Oak Monster” at precisely the same time as Gary. Clearly, he’s heard this before. Very funny!

I’m not a huge wine guy, and watch this for Gary’s passion, but that first wine they were raving about is something I might have to try!
