Really enjoyed this episode. As a self proclaimed foodie, I like the shows where you feature guests like Katie.

Unclassy, uninsifghtful and moronic comments by “my2cents” I see..

QOTD: Can’t see myself drinking a rosé so sweet it would go with a sweet dessert. I’d maybe try a lemon zest pie for the experience. Cheese could be very nice though.

Great show and Katy was a great guest, lovely down to earth girl. You also interviewed well Gary; more shows like this would be a winner. Did I detect a bit of chemistry there Gary??!

I’ve just been looking at some past comments and am a little shocked really; what’s with all this abuse for Katie everyone?? Don’t understand people sometimes. Leave her alone!!

I liked Katie as a guest she was light hearted and in pretentious… Good pairing with the Roses.
QOTD: I think I’d just go with a assortment of fresh berries

I find it interesting to read the comments before I view the episode. In this case, they were all over the place from this being a boring guest, a gold digger to this being a super guest, witty, down to earth, etc. I didn’t know what to expect.

After viewing the episode, I’m pleasantly surprised. I agree with one’s post that she fit the rose profile – not too pretentious, casual style, etc. Surprisingly, she is very young for Billy Joel. However, I’m sure he likes what he sees in her – she’s fun, laid back, etc. I didn’t have any problems with the guest as some others seemed to have.

Gary – you do make all your guests feel at ease. That’s great!

QTD – I’d go with a lite fruit type dessert. Maybe a pound cake or angel food topped with sliced berries and flavored whipped cream.

I am fairly confident that I have been in love with this woman since she was the host of “Top Chef”.

i liked this episode. i wouldn’t say i hate on the pink stuff, but i just don’t drink a whole lot of it. i definitely do enjoy it as a food wine though. and i liked seeing katie on the show, i’ve watched top chef from the beginning and liked her as the host.

qotd: i have no idea. i don’t tend to serve dry wines with sweet desserts, though i guess if i had to pick something i would go with something light and fruity.

woh~ didn’t even know she was married to billy joel until i read the comments!

overall, i’d give this episode a major pazzzz (w/ 4 z’s yes). sure she seemed nice and down to earth like lot of people said…but i’m just having a hard time figuring out what she actually added to the show (I mean, this is a wine show first…never mind her being attractive, nice, etc.).

i do agree that roses should be given some major considerations and they are serious wines too…but if you’re saying that with an advocate who uses ice to cool them…

    mehhhh (w/ 4 h’s)

Good show,Katie was a fun guest. Gary, you gotta drink more water:)!
QOTD: It sounded like she was asking about a recipe with rose actually in it? If so…I’d say an off-dry version made into an aspic gelee and served with fresh fruits.

  • Katie Lee didn’t annoy me at all, so I apologize for my preconceived (and completely unrevealed until I typed this now) notion. She was a good guest representing someone who admitted not knowing anything, but was interested and understood what she was being taught. Thanks very much, Katie Lee. Much appreciated guest.

QOTD: Not a huge dessert maker, but I would think something with raspberries or blackberries (especially after the notes on that last rose).

One of your better shows and guest. Made me want to try again rose’s!

As for Katie’s question, I’d pair it with a Berry Kuchen where you coat the crust in Deep Dark Chocolate! (Sounds like a good match.)

Classic GV moment that Billy Joel is in the background of the show in a totally spontaneous way. Awesome. Nowhere else on TV or the Internet can you get that.

QOTD: I don’t know any dessert recipe I’d use, but I drank a French rose with a shrimp a la sauce americaine in France a long time ago and I can still remember it like it was yesterday. So shrimp a la sauce americaine.

Drink a few bottles of the pink stuff each summer, will look for the Donkey & Goat. Nice show, would have liked Katie to have had a few more food pairing suggestions on her own.

  • I wouldn’t go for a predominantly fruity dessert to pair with the rosé. I’d be concerned that the brightness of the fruit would clash with the acid/fruit of the wine. Instead, I’d try to compliment it with a dessert that had predominantly caramel/vanilla/cream flavors, with just a bit of deeply cooked fruit to tie the dessert and wine together. Perhaps a Tarte Tatin; or a lemon pound cake with a few strawberries simmered in port, plus a dribble of crème Anglais; or a vanilla arborio rice pudding with rhubarb stewed in red wine (see recipe in this month’s Food & Wine). In other words, I’d go for something equal in intensity but opposite in flavor profile, with one element to tie the two together.

Like Rose – think it is still underrated. Love the berries and acid…

QOTD – I would love a fruit tart (like a frutti di bosco) with a nice crisp rose

  • Katie was a great guest. She seemed really honest and down to earth. some of the other guests are really in sales mode and get annoying quick. She just seemed like she was having fun. Too bad you couldn’t get more of the Piano man in the vid!
