line of the day – ‘this is what I like to call ROC – Rip Off City’

I like this episode, all three wines basically sucked but GV battled through and sometimes panning wines is more entertaining than praising them.’

qotd: I think it was to my husband today for picking him up late from LAX.
Actually I don’t think I really apologized…I think I said something about traffic on Lincoln and his plane being early.

It’s good to know that the one that you said was the most available is the best of the bunch. I frequently tend to associate mass distribution with lack of complexity, & at least for one wine that wasn’t entirely the case.

QOTD: Probably the last time I was late for a group meeting.

    1. Glad you are back doing what I appreciate the most – trying and evaluating wines.

    2. I almost want to say sorry for the losers, but I am grateful for the evaluation.

    3. No need to apologize – it ain’t your wine.

QOTD – for inadvertantly hurting the feelings of one very close to me.

I like how this episode you did wines that most people can find, even though they were crap. Im hoping you’ll do a red version of this episode tomorrow/soon? Its tough finding the wines you have on your show all the way down here in Central Florida. Please try the Silvertop Shiraz. Its $7.00 for a bottle and an excellent Argentine shiraz.

QOTD: Apologized to my manager for arguing with a customer about religion. I normally try not to argue with people on the matter but I cant stand self righteous people who judge me for not having the same beliefs.

  • I almost bought the 2007 Barton & Guestier Vouvray just minutes ago when I was at the store! It was the right price, but I’m so hot on malbec’s right now it’s funky.

QOTD: The last thing I apologized for was being an asshole to a friend, and I am SO glad I did.

GV…another outstanding idea for a show. Another wine in this genre you may want ot consider is Lorentz Pinot Gris. I liked it a few years back at 9 bones, unlike it’s current tag of !5. At any rate, its a fairly ubiquitous decent bottle of juice.

QOTD…after not checking my daughters homework. She there was nothing assigned yesterday. The teacher called my wife today complaining about homework not being completed…oops!! Guess who had to apologize?

Gary — 2 back to back terrible wines, I can see why they hurt your feelings. I will make sure to steer clear!!! Still appreciate the episode even though the wines were a disaster.

You gotta take the good with the bad. The bad makes you appreciate the good better, so even though they weren’t great wines, it still teaches a lesson – therefore, awesome show!!

QOTD: I apologized for being late…typical me 🙁

this was a good idea for an episode, too bad the wines didn’t show well, but i often find chain stores selection of interesting imported wines like soave and vouvray lacking.

qotd: somewhat fittingly i think the last thing i apologized for was a wine i helped a friend pick out that wasn’t good. she wanted a cheap chardonnay, and i did my best given the options as presented.

  • urbwes

Gary, I was REALLY hoping you would read my comment today. Of course the likelihood of that is slim so I will raise it again. You mentioned a juice flavor in the Katie Lee Joel episode. Was that “compote” you were referring to? It’s a totally eastern european/Ukraine thing and I want to know if I was right (if I “crushed it”). I NEED TO KNOW.

Funny thing, I was looking at the B&G Vouvray today at Publix. I was thinking of getting it so that I could check off another grape on my list for the Wine Century Club. Everything I drink doesn’t have to be 90+ pointers, right?

Low scores and bad wines but that’s what it is ,also a short episode to boot. It does bring up an issue I have with wine scores. Does an 89 score on two wines make a difference when one is 10 dollars and the other is 50? I mean other than the price

QOTD: About three months ago said something trying to be funny.

Hey, I know its no fun to speak the truth, but we appreciate you for it. Solid show, and its almost as important to know what to avoid as it is to seek out. I’ve had to say sorry often, its all good as long as you learn from the mistakes.

good show…in an odd way i enjoy when you give wines a pass…you explain the odd things that we might taste in a wine that is not of the ordinary, like peach, pear, etc…and you give us things like canned pea juice…love it…

QOFTD: tonight at work, in the kitchen, Journey “dont stop believin” was on the radio and i was quietly singing along…until the “dont stop belieeeevin..hold on to that feelaaaayyyyyyeeeeeinnn” part, got a bit loud, turned around and everyone was staring at me…humbly said I’m sorry….i think it got awkward for everyone….
