line of the day – ‘this is what I like to call ROC – Rip Off City’

I like this episode, all three wines basically sucked but GV battled through and sometimes panning wines is more entertaining than praising them.’

  • I had a fairly good Chenin Blanc a few months ago that I bought from the Library: 2008 Mulderbosch Chenin Blanc. Really nice summery wine. A little one dimensional but enjoyable and I believe I rated it an 88.

Thanks for getting a show together for us, good times. Did you freaking come to Atlanta for a CNN taping without any sort of Atlanta get-together? For shame – give the dirty south some love!

QOTD: um, I apologized to the wife for leaving her on a bike ride when she couldn’t keep up.

Always good to see the other side of the wine spectrum and how there’s such a huge difference in quality among wines.

QOTD: I apologized to the Carolina Hurricanes for not believing in them before game 7 against the Bruins last night. They accepted. Go Canes Go.

  • I also like the reviews of wine that is available. It makes no sense to watch a review of something I can’t buy.

QOTD: I apologize for my comment.

    QOTD: Interrupting someone (sound familiar).

The two “dogs” in this episode illustrate one of the problems with individuals expanding their palate (or even introducing themselves to wine at the store). They want to try a bottle or new varietal, low cost, and as this ep demonstrated, if the store only carries a few, the store is likely just looking for representation, not necessarily having made any determination of quality of any kind.

Side Note: Not having seen any soave grapes on the vine I picture them hanging there wearing tiny bandanas, ripped jeans that fit so tight they appear to be airbrushed on with cowboy boots, all of them answering to the name “rico”

    Peace

Thought for a minute you might talk me into trying a Soave, but not after that debacle. I do love the Loire Valley – reds, whites and the sparklers are some of the best values out there. Fortunately for me, Phillipe carries more than just B&G

QOTD: Had to apologize to a customer today whose purchase was back ordered on my last delivery and he has to wait until next week for delivery

  • That’s funny….wines that are widely available….yet they aren’t available.

    LOL

    I love it.

    QOTD… I really don’t say I’m sory because I don’t do things I’m sorry about.

Love the pain in your face, not that we like to see you in pain, it’s just you’re always so positive.

QOTD: Never put in print what you would not like to come back and haunt you

Please do us all a favor and level your camera and shoot down rather than up. It will make your production look so much more professional. No comment on content b/c I don’t know jack about wine. That’s all.

That’s fine, but after that I got to go.
Anyway, we’ll look at it then. Thanks.

  • Frankly, I’m surprised the B&G made it into the mid-eighties. If I know the wine you are reviewing, I always try to guess what your score will be. I had you at about 80 on that one. I don’t know the other 2 wines, so no guess.

QOTD: 20 minutes ago. I had to apologize to the mail man when my dog almost came through to screen door on him!

Who was the cute girl in the green shirt and Mets hat that walked by at 8min in? Can you have her on the show sometime? Thanks for your honesty on these wines. haha

  • QOTD: Who can keep track- everytime my wife walks in the room, yells from the upstairs or calls on the phone- I am apologizing for something.

  • Oh well Gary. I wouldn’t be too disappointed. Not every wine is going to be a winner. I’m sure all of us have had those “what the…?” experiences with wine that we thought would be better, or heard good things about and were left scratching our heads and rinsing our mouths.

QOTD: The last thing I apologized for was not getting a proof sheet to Carla for a huge job she did recently. She needed to get some images out, and I was a bit behind. Oops. Sorry.

Gary, please do a show on Soave. Pra, Pieropan, Suavia, Tamellini, Gini, Inama, Ca´Rugate all make great wines. Soave has suffered a bad reputation for too long. If you never tasted these wines, i guarantee you will be amazed. Do Soave a favor, it deserves it!

I actually liked the fact you panned the wines. It saves me from making the same mistake and then having to APOLOGIZE to my wife for buying crap wines. It’s too bad about the Soave. A good one is a rare treat.

Many winemakers need to pay attention out there – cuz I have had everyone of these and thought the same thing – seeking out QPR wines is getting difficult and yes all of these are easily available in many liquor stores around me.

QOTD: I gave my boyfriend the wrong directions but got him the correct ones in time before he left!
