One of the very rare episodes that didn’t really do it for me. The guest was a nice guy but knew nothing about wine (this can sometimes work in their favour…not the case here). Also in the mix was Mott trying to second guess GV for the umpteenth time so for once…not for me.

I love Havens, and my GF. In that order only when there’s a bottle of Havens Merlot open.

    Hey Gary,

I liked the guest from the point of view that ‘he was having a go’at breaking down the characters of the wines… Not everyone is an expert!!! Kudos to Roger. Had a cracker of an NZ SB on Friday night…Montana 08 SB…..Entry level..I just love the passion fruit/cut grass and bell peppers. NZ SB’s beat the crap out of our Aussie SB’s

QOTD…..Go out for a nice dinner, she’ll have a sweet white wine (moscato), whilst I have a SHiraz…but importantly have a serious conversation over a nice meal and enjoy each others company….then head home and watch a dvd

    It’s been a while sine I last posted anything…..

QOTD: go to a play at American Conservatory Theatre, then go to a local restaurant, Antica Trattoria, and the bottle to be popped: Reverie ’04 Reserve from Diamond Mountain. I can’t think of anything better unless the play sucked and all I can do is pan the performance..at least then we’ll have a nice dinner with a great bottle of juice.

QOTD: there’s nothing before I pop the bottle… that is what get’s the night started!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Nice lesson on what you look for tannin-wise for a wine with the ability to age.

QOTD: If popping a bottle most times it at home more wine for the money without the markup.

QOTD: Cooking something on the BBQ. I’m not the greatest chef, but the motto in our house is that everything tastes good on the grill. We also frequently say that “this is a great wine for BBQ”. Maybe a crisp white on the deck before grilling and maybe a nice rhone blend with the bbq.

Not the best guest. You pretty much lost me when you said the wines were for people with wedding rings–I guess they are not for me, then, so why bother watching if you aren’t married. I watched anyway, but didn’t find the guest to add much to the show.

  • I also want to find out about the cut during Mott’s ranking on his better half. I thought you had to cut off the guest a bit in the opening monologue and turn it into a dialog. His discussion of his work went on too long. Nevertheless, once you got into wine he was a good guest. I liked the idea of drinking with non-wine guys because I can relate a little more.

QOTD: Stay at home on the couch with movie or on the back deck with a chunk of cheese and appetizers, otherwise we crack it as we cook.

    Good show!
