Delirious-1983-Eddie Murphy: Not only is it great to see Eddie at 22 trying to make it but the comments about “Reaganomics” and other social issues of that year brought back a lot of memories. Yay Netflix.

Why are you surprised that the Nobilo S.V. is not all the Wine Spectator says it is? Some of their so-called experts really leave me with questions about whether they have even tasted the wines they are rating and Harvey Steiman, in particular, has a really odd palate. I have almost never agreed with him on the quality of a wine. And since I live in Oregon and drink lots of Oregon and Washington wines, I get chances to compare my evaluations with his on a regular basis.

I should say, to be fair, that W.S. has other wine writers and tasters whom I think are very good at what they do.

QOTD: My wife and I really liked the based on a true story about the Seattle trade center riots in 2000. We live in Seattle, so we had to see it; rented it a few weeks ago. It’s called “Battle in Seattle”. Check it out! Effin love you bro, keep it up yo!!

I watched Crackers on Hulu the other day and had a good laugh. Sean Penn in his third movie ever, with Don Sutherland, Wallace Shawn and a bunch of otehrs in a super corney 80’s crime caper. Think Oceans 11 set in 1980’s San Fran Mission district on a $5000 budget.

QOTD: First of all, I see that you are embracing what it means to have a newborn, more time at home. Rent all the movies you can for the first few weeks while little Mish is just eating and sleeping, b/c after this first few weeks, you will not be able to sit down for an entire movie ever again.

About the Tolosa — gonna pass. I really hate oak in general, so my opinion wouldn’t be worth much.

With so many excellent wines out there in the world, why are these people still buying all these lousy “California style” chardonnays? I think soon it will be like looking back on 1980’s fashion and hairstyles . . . and saying, “how could I have knowingly done that to myself?” That’s my hope, anyway.

I tried few months ago (from WL) 2006 Tolosa Chard’ “No oak”, whole bottle. Review seem to be the same used for half-bottle you tried. Vote: didn’t order it again. I wouldn’t be as harsh as 75 points though I agree with your tasting points (as far as I can remember). My wife would likely agree with you on the score: she drank one glass and didn’t want to have anything to do with it anymore.

QOTD: Dersu Uzala, by Kurosawa, made in Russia. Rarely seen masterpiece (score 99). Available on DVD at many rentals.
