have been asking you a few questions without reply and i guess emailing you now wouldn’t be the best idea. besides, cmott? I think it’ll be full as well…
so anyway, see if you can answer my questions…just out of curiosity,
1) do you breath white wines? if yes, how long?
2) how do you note down wines you taste when you dine (write, record, etc)?
3) i want to personally try more wines but what if you open a bad bottle to try (don’t think you’ll finish it, but it’ll be a waste not finishing ordering something different that’s bad)?
Have a great weekenend!

SOTD: When you said at your FOWA talk that everyone should be using 7pm-1am to make something happen for themselves, I took that to heart. Sometimes if I’m not motivated I watch that again. Even if its just one more blog post I can show an employer someday, that’s at least something.

Hey GV – I liked that one – lots to taste! A few things:
Thanks again for all the content over the years. 700 episodes and going strong – hope you can keep it up!
If you’re up for it, would love to see a few double blind tastings. 3-4 bottles that you only know red/white. That would be fun!
Speaking of nerdy thing – I emailed you an Excel analysis of your scores vs price last month (after episode 675). That was really nerdy, but hope you found it interesting.
How can we get the green wristbands?
Lastly, congrats one more time to you and Lizzie! Glad to hear the updates about little Misha…
Cheers!

SOTD: I think you guys should do more blind tastings, thats where the entertainment is. And maybe if Mott could show the audience before hand that would be fun too. I haven’t been a fan that long, 7 months maybe, and already some of the shows are getting routine. Still love the show.

I started watching WLTV a few months ago, and now I’m “wirling” everything I drink…people must think I’m a psycho.
The show is great, thanks for doing what you do.

Hi Gary, how are you?

I think you are spreading yourself too thin. Focus! You have a great vlog here, and it deserves lots of attention in order to continue to be great.
SOTD: I would love for the site to feature the “new to wine?” section again. I began following the show early this year, and that collection of videos was invaluable as both an introduction to you, Gary, as well as a kick-start to boost my confidence and base wine IQ when going to local tastings and stores.
Keep up the good work!

Gary:
I share your enthusiasm for a number of things including (in no particular order): children, wine, and tea. I have been a loyalist with uptontea.com for nearly 20 years. Their catalogues are incredibly informative. You should check them out. I have no business interest of any sort in/with them. (I live in San Diego, they are outside of Boston.)
Of course, I only recommend more caffeinated beverages to you with certain reservations!!!!!

I like the rapid fire tastings… 6 wines in under 25 minutes is a great show… headed to Costco immediately!
SOTD: Give me a way for me to work with you in a group setting (group coaching/event/etc..). I don’t have a huge budget, but I want your help to make my brand crush it!
SOTD #2: Time for another Wine tasting 101 type episode…

Hey Gary,
Even though I am an avid Vayniac, I`ve never left a comment before but I feel that I have to because I feel so passionate about sake.
I live in Japan and my wife is from Niigata, where the best and most renown sakes (Hakaisan, Kubota etc.) are made. What was said about sake being at its best after 1.5 years from the date of produce (to experience the intended sake that the producer is trying to achieve) is TOTALY FALSE!!!!
Sake should be drunk IMEDIATELY for it to be at its best, in fact, it is even considered rude to give a bottle of sake as a present if it is more than 3 months old!!
How do I know this to be true??
My wife’s family has been producing premium quality sake for generations and do nothing but state the fact when we drink together, and one thing that they all agree on is this….
SAKE DOES NOT AGE!
PS. I love your show. Congrats on the baby!

SOTD,,,Gary,,,I think you bring the “real Thunder” a little less than you used to…I used to get really excited about each and every show…now I find myself “fast forwarding” through many of the episodes to find out the score then scroll back…or just watching the episodes about wines I know myself(or want to learn more about)…I think you used to bring much more thunder for me…
I am not dissing you Bro..just saying…
Hell it could just be me evolving….haha

SOTD: This economy is creating an interesting paradox for those that have no been laid off – MORE WORK. Gone is the work-life balance as more work is piled on the employees that remain. I’m praying for the economy to turn around so we can hire more people and I can get my life back.

Great episode as usual Gary and Mott. In this one, you made a great reference to Thursday night pizza wines. I’d like to see you do a episode on mass produced wines and pick ones that you would drink on pizza night. There are some of us out there who do a large amount of our wine drinking with pizza (or cheap Italian dishes) and we could use some guidance. Likewise, an episode on good wines that you’d serve at large parties (50+ people).

Gary, you always rinse glasses between tastes. Why don’t you also rinse your mouth? Seriously, I’m curious. I’ve been to tastings where after several tastes it gets harder & harder to discern nuance in flavors. Is this common, or just a symptom of a less practiced palate?
Thanks!

Hey there. loving that you are back in full swing. thought you were going to get to the private label wines i send back in April, but the CH wines made it to the thunder show first. bummer. Hope to see the Kroger and Supervalu wines i sent on the show soon.

Good Episode.
Loved MJ in the background.
One thing I think would be good is to once a week or so pick a state and take a few bottles of wine from that state and review them. This I think could help people to support their local economy.
Hope all is well

Great show, loved the comparison of six, nice little break from having a guest. Based on your descriptions, I believe I would like the 2007 Flying Winemaker Zinfandel the best, & so will try it.
SOTD: I read the other replies, but thought you meant something like this:
Faure’: “For me, art, and especially music, exists to elevate us as far as possible above everyday existence.” -to his son Phillippe; Lausanne, August 31, 1908
Yes, I’m a classical musician.

Hi Gary!
SOTD- From my experience being new to wine and passing your show on to my friends, most of the young people watching are trying to learn about wine from you. The tidbits about expanding your palate here and there are great, but its the education shows that really stand out. Obviously #148, and its that style that keeps me watching. Not just choosing a region to review, but a talk about what makes that region great for growing wine, etc. Plus, anything about Canadian wines!

SOTD: Gary, I want to change “my” wine world. In BC Canada, we have a liquor tax on average of 130+%. The government also dictates what we are aloud to bring into our provence and ship out. We can’t even ship inter-provence in our own country. How can we stop a dictatership monopoly to free the wine???? Any ideas? http://www.freethewine.ca/cms/

line of the day – ‘big and bright…if you like…brig fruit’
Old school episode with no messing. Just the smell, and the taste of several wines. I think GV would describe this effort as ‘focussed’.
