line of the day -‘even if you have the ability to hit a crapload of home runs, if you can’t hit to the opposite field or take a walk once in a while you’re not gonna play baseball.’

Really interesting on location episode. The main point when discussing the wine was that overoaked wines hide most of the secondary flavours and can easily be replicated cheaply. I totally agree!

WHOOOOOOOOOOOA, Was that Place Cooool or What????!!!???

qotd: Been to a Zillion Beer-Bars, but NEVER been to a Wine-Bar…..

  • What a cool place, I’m going to have to go check it out soon. There is a nice wine bar in Garden City NY called Novitá that has a dispensing system behind the bar. But right now my favorite is Terroir NYC. No fruit bombs to be found there!

  • So here is your answer from Germany 😉

My fav. “wine bar” is the Bar No. 10 in Giessen. Unfortunatley their wine list is not that “different”, but the Gin, Whiskey … selection is great!

    Cheers,
The big German guy from the Cruise!

Call me old fashioned, by I find that place a bit too gimmicky for me.

QOTD: I’ve actually only been to one wine bar before (There aren’t many in Victoria, BC. It’s more of a pub town) but it certainly was a lovely time. It’s called “After Dark,” and I mean to visit it again some time soon.

  • Hey G.
I love the projector-touchscreen-action! QOTD: besides my own balcony with a wine from my cellar, my favourite winebar is “PIU’s” in Hamburg, Germany.

  • I will definitely visit this place the next time I an in NYC. (hopefully soon)

I am wondering though, did the owner get dissed that you kind of gave a not so rave review of a wine he has for retail? I probably wouldn’t, since there are more than 100 wines he said but still.

    QOTD:
My favorite place is actually not a wine bar since I don’t have a favorite winebar (if you don’t count my cellar), it’s the Hofbräuhaus in Munich, Germany. A wonderful place.

  • Wow I love the use of technology. A great idea. I’d just love to have that counter just for the geek/nerd factor alone 🙂

I’ve never been into a wine bar.

    C’mon ep 700 😀

  • Thanks for the tip off Gary. I’ll have to visit CLO next time I’m in New York.

QOTD: My favourite wine bar is Terroirs in London which for me is even better than Terroirs in New York. Mostly French wines from small Bio Dynamic/Lutte Raisonneé/Organic producers. So many weird and wonderful wines served alongside top quality meats, cheese and French country dishes. http://www.terroirswinebar.com

QOTD: Gary you alarmed me with that question. With that question you made me realize that I don’t know any good winebars around here. I’m sure there are some but I have never really looked. Could anybody give me some tips about good winebars in Berlin?

Hi Gary, I’m from Dortmund in Germany. We have two classic winebars in Dortmund but my favorite place is the so called wine-garden of my wine merchant “cabernet & co”. When the weather is nice he sells his wines by glas and you can drink them in his wine-garden (looks like a very small beergarden without beer). And by the way his favorite wine growing region is Portugal – and one of my favorites too. Good look for #700! Greetings from Dortmund, Peter

Cool location. I haven´t seen a winebar like this before. Some wines looks very expensive for one glas. The bar table was very interesting. You can get all your information about the wines you can buy.

QOTD: There is no winebar within an radius of 40 miles. But when I drive to my in-laws to Frankenthal (Pfalz), we visit evertime some vintner´s. It is always fun to sit there and try some wines.

I don’t really have a favorite wine bar – I’ve had two great experiences in San Diego at the Hotel del Coronado wine bar (not sure what it’s called) but I don’t remember it being anything special as far as wine bars go…it was all about the company. However, my LEAST FAVORITE wine bar is the Torres Wine Bar on Paseo de Gracia in Barcelona. I’m not a big fan of Torres wines in general but this place somehow manages to make them even less enjoyable!

Haver yet to try a wine bar. Living in a small town has it’s advantages, but also it’s disadvantages.

That is one cool table and marketing concept.

After watching the show, my wife and I had a gewurztraminer that ‘changed our wine world’: Domaine Zind-Humbrecht, Alsace. Can you do an entire show on this father-son, biodynamic team?

#699……wonder how you’re gonna rock us up / nerd with us on epi #700. Cant wait!

Don’t really go to wine bars…prefer to open my own bottle at dinners or home, etc…
At wine bars, or whenever you order by the glass…you’ll never know how the wine has been kept or how long has it been open. Hence, it kinda spoils the true pleasure of enjoying the vin.
However, this is probably only a wine geeks perspective!

Gary – TREMENDOUS EPISODE!!! It was great to get a behind the scenes sneak peak action to this innovative wine bar. I might have to seek this one out next time I’m up on NYC. I think this type of episode is another great tool for your arsenal Gary. You’ve been mixing it up quite a bit recently, which I appreciate.

QOTD: For my 29th b-day, my girlfriend took me to Il Bar & Panorama Restaurant within the famous Penn’s View Hotel in Philly. They have the world’s largest preservation and dispensation system which allows them to have 120 open bottles at one time. The right side of this photo gives a glimpse. They also have a huge menu of flights and you can get 3 oz “tastes” or 5 oz glasses in addition to the bottles and their reserve list. Definitely a cool place and ironically I overheard someone talking about Gary Vaynerchuk when we sat down at our table!

Looks like a pretty interesting wine bar — they have those machines at the wine shop near my house — they don’t really allow wines to breathe though, which concerns me when it comes to any wine that might need to open up.. Anyhow, what can you expect in midtown manhattan..
My favorite wine bar is Peasant, on Elizabeth between Spring and Prince. Kinda the best vibe ever.
