line of the day – ‘no one is going to roll up on you, cut your tongue with a switchblade and you’re gonna be happy about it. In this instance, I am.’

Crazy, walk around episode featuring the full cast of the Wine Library, AND a packet of Mott’s apple slices. Fun.

A complete break from traditional WLTV scenery.

    Friday delerium can be fun!

I Love the five minute mark! We need some more moments like that. Spontanious moments are ALWAYS great with your show!

Qotd: well now it’ll remind me of this, so whenever someone mentions apples and chicken ill start laughing and they’re going to look at me like I’m crazy.

  • Love that you are paying respect to Falanghina. Yet another great Italian white flying under most peoples’ radars (in this country). And the Super Tuscan epi had its nerd moments (which I prefer). In fact I wish you’d spend the majority of every episode on didactics. Taste is subjective, but facts are facts!

QOTD: That reminds me, I think I left my lunch in the break room frig at work yesterday!!

QOTD: Now we hear chicken and apples, we think best action sequence ever on an LBF episode. Next Friday bring the culprit in as your guest. And we want more cameo appearances by that handsome dude with a hat; Mr. Sasha!

QOTD- Little…….and Halloween (in the 50’s).

I really have no idea what or who Chicken Little is, and as a kid, it was always a bummer to get an apple on Halloween instead of candy, (which of course was good for us).

Woe is me . . . I never get to leave an early comment, oh well!!

Come on Gary, summer is almost over – put up the Falanghina on your free shipping play . . . I’m in for a case!!

QOTD – chicken yakitori and beautiful Japanese apples grown in cages so as to be “perfect” – ah, remembering my time in Tokyo!!

w00t! The LBF couch! You know when Gary’s on the couch, he’s going to dish out some knowledge.

I loved the spontaneous kitchen fiasco. It’s good to mix things up once in a while. Also, this was a very interesting show. Falanghina is a total mystery to me, so this was quite educating.

QOTD: I think of buffalo wings and apple pie; delicious!

Bravo Gary for stressing the quality of Campanian white wine. Hands down some of the best valued quality-made Italian white wine.

Falanghina is that perfect moderator between the juicey, fresh, fruity Greco (also found in the Ciro you pointed to the other day at CRU) and the herbal, nutty, and mineral Fiano (the other two major grapes of Campania).

Hopefully you guys discover all three grape varieties 🙂

QOTD: I think of some sort of chicken salad that has some diced apples in it. You guys should have a recsipe contest for an apple chicken salad (sandwich).

  • Excellent, you should definitely get out of the office and tour around more often (at least on Fridays), it’s actually quite fun to see the serious side/work environment at Wine Library and the occasional Sasha cameo. Another Classic Move in the can.

On the wine notes: it’s been a while since you’ve mentioned either banana peel and/or papaya as components and I like that, haven’t tried any Taburno wines but will most definitely seek this one out just on those particular signs.

QOTD: Chicken, I think a nice country salad, fresh with celery, peppers and potatoes with corainder… Apples, I think Red Delicious or Fuji.

    Great “Laid Back Friday” episode.

    Gary:

I enjoy your reviews and praise you for your encouragement to try something new. This is truly the beauty in drinking wine.

I have a suggestion. To help expand our reach for new wines (especially those of us who live in wine distributor challenged areas – read Italian whites = pinot grigio) at a very affordable price point, offer a service of 90 point or better wines at or below $10.

I realize this may be a real challenge and still offer margin opportunity for your business. However, as a very active wine retailer you are in the best position to provide such a service and prove to the brick and mortar locations there is more variety at a lower price with above average quality.

    Thanks for reading.

    Gary, Gary, Gary…

Your act is tiresome and I now know why…you’re Russian. Maybe not culturally but genetically and that’s more important here. I’ve yet to meet a Russian who knows how to handle alcohol. They always go to far, and once drunk, they mistake agression for charm. It’s ugly and it’s exactly how you appear without being drunk. It’s like you’re drunk on passion for wine and behave accordingly. Any charm you have comes across as a loud “I know it all” attitude. I’ve seen it a thousand times when Russians drink. It’s unfortunate but you can’t avoid it, it’s in your genes. Try to tone it down, you’ll appear much more authoritive. You may know your stuff but you come across as a drunk trying to convince someone with menace.

  • Great episode, love Falanghina, definitely an un-appreciated wine in the US. Give Taburni Domus falanghina a search, it’s only in CT for now. Brings tremendous thunder.
QOTD: Chicken: Boring, Apple: Fall in New England
