lines of the day – ‘I just used the word ‘play’ 9 times in the last five minutes.’, ‘nuts in my mouth are very exciting, yeah I said it’, and ‘It’s like someone took Pinnochio and stuck him up my nose.’

Phenomenal episode as these blind tastings always are. Loved it, especially the fact that the 96 point Parker wine was scored 68 points by our man. Also featured the most ill-informed, ridiculous, downright stupid comment ever read out by GV. Whoever sent that piece of rubbish in should be ashamed of themselves.

    Gary-
Good show — I am wondering at what point you think Robert Parker will think, “Yikes! I rated a wine 96 points that Gary Vee just gave a 69 to. Maybe there is something wrong with MY pallet!”

    QOTD 1: 8
    QOTD 2: Black Stallion Merlot (can’t recall the vintage — 2005 I think)85

  • QOTD Granache. I learned that from watching you, not from Google. Thanks Gary!

QOTD: Opened a Domaine du Coulet Billes Noires Cornas 2005.
A big big boy… extremely tannic and inky, with a closed nose on Saturday. Had a glass on Monday and it was great, 92-93 pts.

  • Love the “BROWN PAPER BAG” format! Nice EP!

  • finally got around to finishing this episode, one of the best i have ever seen BTW. love the paper bags keep em coming. favorite number 10, had no wine, but i did have a nice beer or two. the best was a dogfish head red and white, a Belgian wit clocking in a a huge( for the style at least ) 11% brewed with pinot noir extract and aged in oak . excellent beer, i would give it a 91+. BTW gotta say when you read my comment i squealed like a 13 year old girl at a Jonas brother concert.

  • GV– you got to love blind tastings. No bias just you and the wine.
I think you should do all of your tastings blind on the show.
Most grown grape used to be Grenache but probably Cabernet Sauvignon now.

Who is that guy to say something about your style GV!?
Keep being yourself!! You are great!!!

#7 (Like 60% of the people! Kkkkk?)

Awesome show again Gary, that Argentinean rocks!
As so many other Argentineans, like the Torrontes grape whites.
The malbes are awesome: Yacochuya, Cobos & Achaval Ferrer.
You should try on the show!!

    QOTD: Lindeman?s Australian Shiraz 2006, 85 pts. MF. 😉

  • the blind baggers level the playing field yet again!
…I agree with others that a regular blind episode would be killer (and would sure keep Ian’s creativity nurtured).
Got to figure if Parker was scoring the Eden a 96 it must have been with a LOT more aging in mind?

    QOTD1: 17
QOTD2: Castelvero Cortese ’07 DOC Piemonte 88+ crisp, bright, green and clean
MontGras Carmenere Reserva 2007 89 super value, should have decanted it

Gary, I enjoy your style and candor. I’m a laid back california girl, born and bred, but can appreciate what you bring to the tasting table. I, too,, learned wine at my dad’s elbow. My mom worked for Gallo so we got monthly allotments. .
We had an 04 TERRE ROUGE SYRAH, LES CÔTES DE L’OUEST with smoked ribs that was fabulous. I would rate it at 91 pts, and at under 20 bucks a bottle, a pleasure to open for just my husband and myself.

  • Patti Wentworth

Before I can even answer questions of the day, I want to say-DON’T CHANGE A THING,GARY!. What one person perceived to be over the top (in a distinctly xenophobic statement) I simply construe as passion. When you are passionate about something, it is infections and it is inherently human to want to allow others to feel that joy.
Number is 3….tried a French Vouvray and actually hated it (too sweet), for my palate, an 80. Fortunately, my boyfriend is like the family dog and has no problem cleaning up the leftovers.

Great show again. I love the paper bag show, it demonstrates how it really does come down to the individual palate. I thought I was going to die laughing when you were talking about the oak monster.

QOTD: The number 9. Wine tasted over the weekend? La Yunta 2008, I don’t know maybe it’s because I’m new to this but to me the over powering smell and taste was a 1920’s moonshine still.

    Keep up the good work.

  • My favorite number, even though I don’t believe in favorite numbers (ha), is 17. My birthday is October 17th, and I moved out of the house when I was 17. It’s a good number. 🙂

Loved the chardonnay show – they’re so great to pair with food, I’m trying to try a few new ones these days. Thanks!

  • For the first time ever, I stopped an episode of WLTV to comment. Whilst you are certainly too polite to say it, I’ll do it for you. That guy who dissed you is an idiot! You don’t come across the way he described you, just an enthusiastic chap with bundles of energy and passion. If anything, the way you handled that shows another side of you – class!

Now I’m going to start WLTV again to watch the rest of it!

Challenge: You should call this episode the “Lynx-O” episode of the THUNDERshow. Why should it be called the Lynx-O episode? C’mon Gary, you can do it.

    Favorite Number: 2415
QotD: 89+ 2002 Gary’s Vineyard Pinot Noir from Lorca Wines. This was a subtle Pinot Noir with cinnamon and black cherry flavors at a crazy pricepoint: $14.99. My experience with Pinot Noir that falls under $20 has been appalling and THIS was great. (Let it breath in the glass, or decant, because the initial alcohol almost killed me before it settled down)

Hey Gary! Over the weekend I had the 2005 Chateau Les Grands Marechaux and loved it. I’m fairly new to the wine world,(roughly 8 months or so) but for my young palete I would score it 92+ points. I just recieved a bottle of the 2006 Esporao Reserva Red and a bottle of the 2000 Chateau Cote Montpezat from your store based on your recommendation, and I am very excited to try them. I love the show and thanks for getting me into the wine world. Sub-QOTD: My favorite number is 3.

Well I am taking full credit for you doing this blind taste show since i have been telling you to do one in every comment I leave. It makes it even sweeter that the Catena Alta won because I love everything the Bodega Catena Zapata put out and you should do a show all about them and I take credit for that too.

  • Great show, very interesting about the Hamilton Russell wine doing so well, am going to blind taste my staff on that at the weekend with a couple of Burgundian wines.

QOTD 1 – Fave number is 0 as it appeared on Damon Hill’s F1 car in 1993 and 1994
QOTD 2 – Tried 2008 Cable Bay Sauvignon Blanc at the weekend. Scored it 8/10 so would be guessing around about a 90 ish score on a hundred point scale. Tried Cloudy Bay Sauvignon at the same time, wouldn’t have given that more than a 75!

    Gary,
Deedick (sp?) is trying to teach you charm by insulting you? He/she has no manners and doesn’t deserve your respect. You don’t deserve that treatment and you are not compelled to even deal with people like that. I know you ask for criticism on your show but how dare he insult you so personally.

Loved your show as always. I’ve seen it before where the upstarts upstage the heavies. Favoriate number–probably 7 (childhood adoration of the Mick!). Wine from this weekend: Cono Sur 2007 Vision Viognier: clean, fresh, vibrant with grapefruit/kiwi/lime. Scored it an 88. Keep it coming Gary.
