Solid episode in which GV asks Mott for his opinion, and then tells him what he really meant to say. Classic.

  • Being a daily watcher of the show for a year or so now, I obviously love what you’re doing. I have a comment or two about the beginning of your show though. I like the beginning graphics…the animation & the colors are good. I must be honest though, the music is starting to get to me! I end up fast-forwarding the first 10-seconds until your intro because I can’t handle it anymore. I don’t know what it is, but it’s just not music to my ears. Ever think about changing it???

What a laid back working environment the WL staff has. No wonder they’re always so helpful and cool when I call. Can I intern there?

QOTD: How don’t I like chicken? I can tell you this, I only like dark meat. And, like the red bean…is a Japanese thing. But, in no particular order: BBQ’d, fried, adobo, curried, etc.

  • QOTD: Fried! But a good southern fry, soaked in buttermilk with Tabasco and then floured and fried in a cast-iron skillet.

Absolutely hysterical how Gary cut Mott off from extolling the Giants!

Fun off-the-cuff kind of show. Thanks!

QOTD: A huge pot of chicken curry and a pile of friends in the house! Close second is chicken pot pie, no crust, topped with baking powder biscuits.

    (I hope you read this)
    Gary,

This is a multi-episode post. First your Monday Post. That 7 bottle Chardonnay episode rocked! The best in a long time. I appreciated the thought Ian put into the order of the tastings. Your reactions were genuine and your information very informative. As for the negative comment you read about your demeanor, that guy is a is full of s**t. His comments about your personality and ethnic/cultural background proved 100% that his opinions are based on ignorant prejudiced beliefs and not on an objective assessment of your personality. His generalizations of Russians (largest country in the world by land area) goes to show that he probably hates 5-10 other cultures for the same reasons. AND because you gave a heart-felt reaction of pain and sadness goes to show that his “assessment” of you is totally wrong. Do not in anyway let tripe like that lessen who you are.

I also loved this Arizona episode. I almost booed when the Pillsbury wine was spelled “Roan”, but them I looked in Wikipedia. Did you notice the horse galloping on the front label? Roan is a play on words for a color of a horse (or cow). Check out the link below for full details:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roan_(color)

I noticed you held back with scoring today and referenced negative comments from Monday’s show. Don’t limit yourself. If you want to be more objective, give two wine scores. One will be your score for your palate, and one will be what you think the general public would score it. Different perspectives are great, bashing your own is not.

    Cheers,

    Mike Nelson

Gary, just found your show a few weeks ago after someone turn me onto it at Caduceus tasting room grand opening, I’m already a hardcore Vayniac!!! forgive the email address, been my nickname since I was 13, 38 now….drummer.. always bringing the thunder….Aaaaaaaaanyways,

thank you so much for hitting Az today, weird thing about it is …I JUST got back from (live in Tucson) Sonoita, I am beginning to help work the vineyards at Canello Hills, with Tim and Joan Mueller (right next door to Callahan) so it was almost spooky that you did this episode today. Good good sign for my future in wine.

Sorry for length really..first post ever. Ugh ….Thanks , was not surprised NOT to see Cad or Stronghold/pagesprings as you covered them with MJK and Eric a lil while back, but I do think if you were gonna hit AZ today they are some of the bigger players, don’t you? and would have shown up better in rep for our Appell.s than Pillsberry and Koko, don’t you?

Either way thanks again for this Ep. I watch about 5 ep.s a day man, fantastic!!! But If anyone wastes the time to read this reply of mine I want to stress I’ve tasted alot of our wines out here and people are doing interesting things with wine here, give us some time, I think you will find our region will find its face and it will be a unique new player on the scene, and if you’ve ever seen a monsoon here then you know…we always bring the thunder, peace Vayniacs, sorry for huge reply

  • QOTD: “Woman, make me some chicken pot pie!”

I’m sure you know this from the 100+ AZ wines you’ve tried, but not all of them are sugarfied! Thanks for featuring more juice from the “other 46”. Next time you’re around the desert, you should take a ride in the WINOBAGO and we’ll get you to any of the local wineries you want to check out… or maybe on a book tour!?

Diggin’ the Boomer Esiason jersey that we caught a glimpse of outside your office!

QOTD: buffalo style (bones or no)…….

Enjoyed todays episode. As a 25 year resident of AZ I was disappointed in the Kokopelli review. I have tasted this wine at numerous events but never purchased any since I agree it is over priced. However, I thought the wine was pretty good. We will try to get some of the Callaghan in the future.

I have noticed the last couple of shipments of wine I have received here are leaking through the cork due to the hot weather. However, the taste still seems to be fine. Is this a problem?

Great episode, love when you bring us content that’s outside of the box whether it’s regions or varietals. My only complaint is that It’s not so useful to me when I can’t go out to a local wine shop and buy any of the regions/varietals featured on the episode.

QOTD: Oven roasted with a pan jus lié. Simple but delicious.
