The sound recording was a bit dodgy in this episode but since GV unearthed a monster wine we’ll let him off!

Great show! hopfully I can find both of those wine to try. I think its harder here in Ct to find many wines. Watched your keynote speach from Omaha… it was outstanding!!!!

QOTD: Jack Johnson and Jimmy Buffett.

  • Expanding my palate I tried a wine made from Rivaner. Sniffed pineapple, gingerbread dough, orange/lime and cantalope. Tasted a bit of orange and pinapple peel, white pepper, and limemarmalde. Not that much acidity, more a base oily component and relatively short backend

Searched your shows and found no reference to that grape. Maybe an idea for a show?

Hi, in the Jimmy Fallon’s show, you have mencioned albariño as white spanish wine, but it isn’t spanish. Albariño that the real name is Alvarinho, it’s portuguese white green wine, with a special aroma of fruit, shine color. The taste it is very good, complex, soft, joyfull and persistent. This cast it’s predominant at Monção lands, North of Portugal. See your self.

GV…Right off the bat, I have to touch on a personal note. Going back to the Omaha episode, I laughed my face off when you mentioned the “green box” in your back yard! I remember it like it was yesterday…Sitting on it on cold days to warm ourselves, and burning our butts on it in the summers!! Another great episode on a highly unknown & underrated region in the Languedoc. Love the fact that you’ve been “nerding it up”, my friend. Glad to hear all is well on the homefront!

Great show Gary – it was nice to see you deep passion for the Dom. de D’lahortus – its one of the great thrills exploring wines. I hope reenrgizing after all the traveling you’ve been doing lately. I hope you get some R&R with little Misha and Liz soon.
I just finished The Wire, a few years late I know, but I was savoring it. I also treasure listening to Radiolab on my ipod – by far the most brilliant and interesting program I know of in any media.

Watching Tru Blood and Hung. Wine sounded great but already sold out. So is there going to be another Thunder Cruise? Announcements were already made by now for last year.

  • Hey Gary,

Thanks so much for this episode. I just went to a local shop to pick up a case of 2005 Clos des Fontans, Pic Saint-Loup, before seeing this episode! I live in Montpellier, so it is perhaps not surprising. We just discovered (we moved here a few month ago) a car share program, so we’ll be off to visit the two vineyards you review here and add to our new ‘cave.’

QOTD: Old 97s and old movies: ‘Love and Death,’ and ‘When we Were Kings.’ Better yet, there was a gypsy family playing old favorites at lunch on the Esplanade. When drinking southern French wines, it’s required to listen to George Brassens.

  • Love it. I have a bottle of the 2000 Chateau La Roque Cupa Numismae, which blew me away when I first tasted it over 7 years ago. Should pop it soon and see how she’s doing. Anyone want to come to St. Pete, Fl to taste?

  • Great episode. Hope I can find the Domaine De L?hortus.

QOTD: When start working at the winery in the mornings and I’m the only one there, I listen to Brother Ali, Classified, The Roots, J5 and other hip-hop. Later, when other people show up, I generally switch it to Led Zeppelin and other classic rock, and by the end of the day its either reggae or Sinatra. However, when we do blending trials and serious wine tasting, the best possible music is either classical (Mozart, Chopin and Beethoven), spanish guitar music or Portuguese Fado music.

Movies: Fight Club, Layer Cake, Boondocks Saints and anything with Arnold the Goven-ator.

    Gary,

Always curious about wines that you go nuts over.

QOTD: I like filmmakers and musicians that, like good winemakers, continually bring the thunder.

Too many to list, but I keep returning to Steely Dan.

Film makers Andrucha Waddington, Kaige Chen, Sophia Coppola, Joe Wright

  • Gary,

heard of you for the first time today – love you!

Quick comment – whenever I hear you refer to your camera guy, I always think you call him “Ma”. Wouldn’t it be sweet if it was your mother who was your camera person? I mean you do talk about your family a lot, so it would only make sense. Put her on!

wow… I was really expecting a good rate at the La Roque, but as I watch the show I think it’s better than I imaginated… good show!

I’m not a fan of movies at all, but I watch sports. Cannot wait for the NFL season to start! Talking about music, I listen to so many things that it would be impossible to describe… As of now, I’ve been listening a lot to John Mayer and House Music, since I’m an amateur DJ =]

    Cheers from BRA!!
