Keep up the wines from small wineries. It is nice to know what to look for in the sea of mediocre juice. Let WL spend the money and us reap the rewards. 😉

Really dug this show, would love to see more of this format in the future. Thanks for the green wrist band.

QOTD: 2006 Cayuse Syrah Cailloux Vineyard scored 92, a different bottle of wine than most walla walla syrahs, enjoyed it, but not really sure it was worth the secondary market price of admission though.

QOTD: No “cult-y” for us, last 6 months or otherwise…

Thanks for the heads up on these wineries. I’ll be on Kanzler’s list as soon as I’m done here!

“Cult Wine”? Gary, just 4 episode ago you trashed the whole “Cult Wine” theory, and I praised you. Now “Let’s get on the “Mailing List”,you are starting to become “Gary Parker I” Tell it like it is Gary California “Cult” wine is what you here in America call “Mom and Pop” vineyards in Europe. Just because they don’t market it as Americans do, all in the name of the “Benjamin”. Mom and pops do it for love and friends, I have found better wine and better value in “Mom and Pops” vineyard. Lets Cellar these wines and re-visit them in 5 to 10 years and then see what you have to say about them. They are BIG, Huge wines that need time to sit BEFORE you can get the “TRUE” flavor of the wine.

QOTD: 2000 Colgin, I gave it 89 because someone thought it would be great with the dinner, Talk about pouring Ketchup over the meal. The wine tasted good but we could not taste the food with such a big wine, Classic Mistake most make.

QOTD: Had a 2000 Cardinale. Not sure if it qualifies as cult but it was great. I gave it 92 points.

  • MAN….I wish people would stop with the “Burgundian California Pinot.”

    What is Burgundian?

By the way. I love the link to the crushitbook.com
It is a nice play on words if you break it up differently.
Cru – a great wine word
Shit – Some of the stuff that Gary spews
    Book – Enough said.

  • Awesome show, my cellar has so much Cult wine that I’ve spent hundreds of dollars on single bottles without ever trying. For the most part what I have tried has been very impressive which then sucks me into finding & buying certain winemakers 2nd labels such as Welch’s Corra, and Erickson’s Dancing Hares. Even after tasting Bond’s Pluribus, Matriach and knowing the track record of Sloan and Harlan I didn’t think twice about jumping on Levy & McClellan’s newest label at a $400 inaugural release price (crazy). It’s almost like a game and wanting to be on the “next” screaming eagle mailing list.

My gems are Scarecrow, & Schrader many more but don’t want to sound weird 🙂

QOTD: My most recent was a 2006 Kosta Browne Sonoma Coast (Still at a fair price but slowly increasing)

QOTD…I had a 1999 Quilceda Creek Cab recently. I think it got a 98 point score from Wine Advocate back in the day. It was very very good, but I wouldn’t know if it was worth a 98. I think once you get above a score of 94, the points are meaningless. We should get rid of the 100 point system for wines of this caliber and just say “real dam good.”

  • QOTD:

Right now there is nothing drinking better in my cellar than the 2005 Small Vines Sonoma Coast. I stopped rating wines by numbers but in a head to head recently it outshined the Merry Edwards Klopp, the Kosta Browne Keefer, and the Sea Smoke Ten.

My favorite “cult” Pinot is Kosta Browne but I buy as much Sea Smoke as I can get my hands on as well.

Hey Gary – Visited Keever back in February and had a fantastic time there. Olga Keever showed us around and we had a very relaxing tasting. Personally, I wasn’t too excited by their cabernet either, but their mid-range wine, the Inspirado, was great! It’s more of a bordeaux style blend and at $50 is probably a 92 in my book…definitely seek that wine out.

QOTD: Two bottles fit the cult status for me. First being a 2000 Gaja Darmaji and the next being a VERY young 2005 Textbook Cabernet from Napa.
