lines of the day – ‘point to that Supernerd over there’ and ‘It’s like when you don’t go to clubs anymore and you go to lounges’

Would’ve scored much higher but for the poor sound quality of the guest. She’s either got a very, very small voice or there was something wrong wih her Mic. Mott tried to step in and help but didn’t work. Shame. The bar looks like a great place to go…one day perhaps.

  • The Grapevine

Cottonmouth: Mott, you are so fired.
John: Don’t blame Mott, he’s probably been begging for an equipment upgrade.
Contrary Mary: Everythings got to be perfect with you two clowns. I say good show Gary V!!!

have been drinking wine for 40 years. and while primarily a red wine wine drinker today, the finest quality grape in the world is, no doubt, the german riesling.will migrate back to it at some point.

Interesting episode. The crowd noise was a little unfortunate, but your guest was gorgeous. As far as German Rieslings, if every sommelier looked like her, I would only drink German Rieslings.

Get the ice queen back in again Gary and do a show in the studio so we can hear her clearly. Maybe I just like the sound of her voice…

I enjoyed that episode a lot. And you had German wine royalty there with you. QOTD – I like German wines very much, especially when I am in Germany. It goes great with food and I enjoy the acidity of it. Reisling is my favorite German wine. I have had quite of bit of Franken wine when in Germany. It is good and the unusual bottle makes for interesting conversation. Vielen dank to the Wine Queen for being on the show.

FANTASTIC, I repeat, FANTASTIC, episode!!!!! The German Wine Queen is very pretty when she sniffy sniffs and drinks.

QOTD: I love German Rieslings! I have mostly been drinking Kabinett and Spatlese and haven’t gotten into the sweeter late harvest Rieslings. I’ve had a few dry Rieslings that I’ve also enjoyed.

  • Excellent episode.

I’m a HUGE fan of german wines – and Riesling in particular.
I worked for ½ a year at a vinery in 1996 in Palatinate (Pfalz) and have completely fallen in love with these wines.

I’m a great fan of Riesling form this region in Germany. More fullbodied than Mosel and still with good acidity (unlike most of the wines from Baden)

Drink fresh young dry Riesling with fish and seefood (mussels – lobster etc) and drink the offdry Rieslings with asian cooking – or even Chili con Carne. It compliments the spicy and hot flavours perfectly with its fruitiness and light sweetness. TRY THAT OUT FOLKS !!!

I import the wines to Denmark (approx. 1000 km from where the wine grows) – and I have great fun with these wines.

If you want to try something a bit more exotic – look for Scheurebe

It’s a bit like the german answear to NZ Sauvingnon Blanc.

    Cheers

  • I wish Americans were as proud of every thing like she was of Germany. Did you notice, she was Ms. Marketing on Germany, all good things, special little tidbits… I don’t think a typical US citizen would talk so nice about the US items. sigh.

nice show. love the back ground cussing, and repeating of your words. cool.

  • Gotta love the swearing in the background at the 17:26 mark dropping the S&F bombs LOL

QOTD: I like rieslings however I’m partial to my home-state Michigan wineries.

Enjoyable episode. One thing I liked about the ice queen is how she looks at the wine as she’s tasting it. Did anyone notice how her eyes get kind of big as she’s contemplating the wine? Also, she swirls the wine in the glass like a pro.

If all the wine queens from all of the countries in the world were to compete for wine queen of the universe I’d vote for Marlies.

Enjoyed the show! Guest was engaging and definitely had some babe-lacious qualities.
Good call by jwink on the swearing at 17:26 in the episode. Not a girl to bring home to mama!

qotd: love riesling from all over the world especially those from Germany. unfortunately with the crappy dollar, they’ve become pretty pricey. Fortunately I put away a number from 2001 and 2005 when the prices were more reasonable. of late, I’m mostly drinking Australian and Finger Lakes. Last couple of years have seen some terrific dry rieslings from the Finger Lakes.

very fun quest. not easy to hear her over the background noise although the mike definitely helped.

QOTD: Pennsylvania does not have a good selection of German Rieslings. I avoid the PA rieslings. But I have enjoyed a few that are available in Delaware.

    No fair, looks and brains….

Thanks for doing another episode on German Riesling. I used to live in the Rheingau region for a couple of years and bought Rieslings directly at the wineries at that time. If you buy the Kloster Eberbach Steinberg Riesling at Kloster Eberbach, it is only EUR 7,20. That changes the QPR picture dramatically 😉

  • Great guest Gary,
Fun episode featuring one of my favorite wine makers in the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, Geltz Zilliken. That being said, I am not sure you have tasted
very many bottles of Zilliken. His acidity is never razor sharp nor harsh and can seem deceivingly low. However, once you drink more bottles of his wine, you will recognize that his acidity on average is much higher than other rieslings, and very mature and elegant.
One of the characteristics of Zilliken’s wines is the elegance, which can lead some tasters to believe that the acidity is low. Also, this wine as at the Auslese level, so the residual sugar will balance the acidity also making it appear lower than it actually is.
And, you are right, Riesling’s capability to age is very often underestimated.
Check out my tasting note on a 20 year old Karthäuserhof:
