    Great show, and incredible guest.

When are you headed to Houston? You mentioned September but no date or place yet.

QOTD: Syrah is incredible and as far as I am concerned has much more to offer than Pinot.

QOTD – I like Syrah, but pinot has elegance that i have a hard time finding in syrah.

Wow, great guest. She is so elegant. Nice contrast with the G-man. πŸ˜‰ Sound like her wines are terrific. Maybe too terrific. Even the muscat is 30 bones, and the reds much higher. Ouch. Good split show, though. Enjoyed it.

QOTD: Sorry, I like my Pinot Noir. Syrah is good, don’t get me wrong, and maybe I just haven’t had good enough Syrah. But I find that Syrah tends to be a very big wine that tends to want to whack me. Pinot Noir tends to be more reserved and subtle – the flavors are all there, but I have to go get them. The finish can be long, but it doesn’t take over my palate. It just lingers there for me to savor without trying to get in my way. Syrah and Cabernet can both be great wines, of course, but I like the shy lady.

  • Very classy!

QOTD: I love Syrah and Pinot Noir. And gosh, all the yummy varieties GV has passed our way. But it’s easier to find a delicious Syrah at an everyday price than it is to find a good Pinot.

QOTD: Syrah can match up better with food with its berry patch, peppery mouthfeel. Besides I think people like Syrah more than they think they do considering how the big bomb pinot noirs use Syrah in the blend.

    It just keeps getting better!!!!!!!!

QOTD: Love Syrah and the assorted blends and with the amounts of Syrah in Cali Pinots I guess the Pinot makers do too.

ps. I may have yo fight you for that title Brandon : )

QOTD: Syrahs are great but pinots tend to be a little more complex.

Great couple of shows, very enjoyable, looking forward to the “Pirate Pack”.

QOTD: Syrah – it’s really the grape that got me into serious wine when I discovered the N. Rhone through a professor/friend in college. I love both grapes for different reasons. I like syrah when it’s a bit rustic (Rhone). I like my PN a little more refined (Burgundy or OR). I would think a wine maker’s perspective on syrah would be different than a straight consumer. The wine maker has to deal with how difficult PN can be while syrah is generally “easier” to work with.

Holy WOW! I’ve never sat at the edge of my seat, leaned into the computer grinning for an entire show…until now. Heidi Barrett is the most charming person I’ve ever seen interviewed anywhere.

The pirate wine? Man I hope to see that bugger on wine.woot, or over here, I’m totally down!

QOTD: I love a good Syrah, it can be so versitile and awesome…I also love good Pinot…I find though that lots of cheap pinot can be some really awful stuff…and adding syrah or PS to pinot is just a big fat yuck. I think the problem with Syrah, is “Shiraz” There are so many over the top, oaky overdone Aussie efforts out there ala Yellowtail, that have pigeonholed Syrah to the point that it’s become a big fat flappy bbq quaffer in lots of peoples minds and not much else. Thank goodness for winemakers like Heidi Barrett who see Syrah’s true potential.

Gary, hope your foot is ok!

Brandon, I think John Farrin might be right!

QOTD — Most syrahs in my price range are over-blown and boring (to me); but yes, the ‘good stuff’ is fantastic

  • Nice Finish.

QotD: I am not partial to Syrah, but that is probably because I haven’t had many experiences drinking it. Definitely in the past, I would choose a pinot noir, cabernet sauvignon, or even a merlot over syrah. I’ll definitely think twice about it now that Heidi has brought it to my attention.
