PS the Pinon Sparklers are Awesome, especially the Rose and Non Dosage.. and his sweet cuvee botrytis still wines.

Good show. The serious start had me worried. I thought, “Oh no! Where is the Gary that we know and love? I tune for Ferris Bueller and got Ben Stein asking the question, “Bueller?” I ask, “Vaynerchuk?” The wines brought you back which shows the power of good wine, like Voltron’s blazing sword.

QotD: I went to my first Mariner’s game when I was 6 months old (apparently). That’s my team.

    Gary,

When you say football, I’m thinking of soccer. QOTD: My hometown team: BRØNDBY – BIF.

    Jens from
    Copenhagen

P.S. Agree with you about Vouvray.

  • Huh, so toned down..i was scared for a moment (Sir Gary like 😉 Vouvray really impressed me too. The one i liked the most was the Clos de Nuys Sec. Great stuff. Seems to be one of the best places for serios Chenin blanc.
    QOTD: none

    Hmmm Baby!! San Francisco Giants

And as always great show, it’s a little better when you like the wines. I’m going to look for a Vouvray right now.

Hurrah! Love the Loire Chenin Blancs, esp. Vouvray!

QOTD — back when I followed sports (around 1971-79), the Yankees, Raiders, and Flyers

PPS… one more thing about Loire Chenin.. Many are good for about 1-2 years.. shut down and re-emerge in 10 yrs.. Just the most under rated grape on earth.. great acidity to balance the fruit.

  • Great show, GV. One of these days I’m definately going to seek out some Vouvray.

QOTD: I’m not really into football but the thing that pops up in my head is The Giants. I don’t know why, and I don’t even know which city this team is located in. Okay, now I’ve checked it out. Sorry about that, Gary.

Vouvrays are delicious. Try Chardonels: “The quintessential picnic wine. ‘Chardonel’ grape resulted from the crossing of Seyval and Chardonnay in 1953 at Cornell University. The wine offers an interesting combination of flavors from each parent grape variety. Every vintage year can hold surprises in how those flavors and aromas develop. This vintage is fruity and off-dry, with a provocative spicy banana aroma. Try it with pizza or Asian cuisine.”

    And, Seyval Blancs.

  • Mr Cook

Great tight show. I am certainly going to seek out one of these wines. Expanding palates one at a time…sign me up.

QOTD: Cleveland Browns….I bleed orange and brown.

Good show GV. I appreciated the seriousness towards Vouvray. It was also good to see all 3 wines crushit! The Loire valley seems to always pull through.
QOTD: While sports are not a huge part of my life, Broncos football is the one thing I do get pretty excited for. I try to watch all the games (on tv) and I love Sundays during the football season. My brother who is into the Broncos like you are into the Jets (well…..maybe not quite as much:), thinks that the new coach has some good ideas….I’ll hope he’s right. Again, good show GV, Thanks!

You mentioned chardonnay: NOT a chardonnay fan AT ALL; generally prefer reds to whites, HOWEVER I’m Really looking forward to trying all three of these whites!! Thanks for this show–I’d probably have never tried them otherwise!

QOTD: I’d rather drink chardonnay than have anything to do with spectator sports…[HUGE yawn…]

Prefer to go white water rafting (Class IV to VI is fine) followed by an evening of good food & good wine–now THAT’s something to look forward to!

  • shawnandlu

Chargers all the way. This is the year that everyone in the league discovers that the greatest young QB in the NFL is Rivers. 105+ QB rating leading the league last year and that was with Gates hobbled all year with a bad toe and LT all year with a bad toe and Chambers nursing a high ankle sprain. With three more healthy targets look out NFL. This guy is a flat out winner and a leader.

P.S. Gary, Give him a couple of years and Mark Sanchez is going to make you look real bad for booing him in the draft.

Gary, Gary, Gary, Now you are either getting good use out of your new shirt or your taping 3 shows in a row. Which some of us know that as a wine critic your palate is ONLY good for 5 to 8 wines before it is TOO saturated to taste properly. This is why RP Jr. writes the same thing over and over about different wines.

Please Gary you owe it to your fans to do it right, I know it’s a pain to “tape everyday” but this is what you signed up for.

Your were not “UP” for this taping you brought me down and I left work even more down then I was.

I love Vouvray, but this show was almost as bad as the “PIZZA GUY”

QOTD: Rugby a real mans sport (no Pads) bone on bone.

Dude, cooled off a bit for this show, but it was pretty enjoyable. Brother you had my mouth watering for the Pinon Vouvray Tradition…that’s exactly what I want RIGHT NOW!

QOTD: the Dallas Cowboys! America’s team!

I knew you couldn’t stay away from football for more than a week, ever since you blasted pizza-boy’s Dolphins. Even though I now live in Reno; I don’t care for any west coast teams. I have to go back to my roots, and root for the poor Chicago Bears. I think we are way over due for another world class running back. Maybe the new QB will help; should be interesting. Your Jets need another #12. Smell it first. TR

  • Just cracked a 1990 Aigle Blanc for my dad’s birthday last week … blew everyone away, but personally I could have used a little more lanolin, a little more petrol, a little more funk. Shouldn’t have decanted, I guess.

So I’ve got an ’04 Pinon down in the basement somewhere, should I be in any hurry to crack it or just let it sleep awhile?

Q: isn’t there another World Cup coming up?
