    Cracker Jack Show Gary,
Very serious introduction today….Great review on the Vouvrays – that was a really special effort and really great fun facts. Here in AUS Chenin is usually a supporting component for Dry White blends.. Decent AUS CB are very hard to find. Never had a Vourvray before – have to go and check them out!!!

QOTD…Being from AUS im really into the Australian Rules Football, Its a massive sport over here…My team is Saint Kilda – Currently undefeated on top of the table. They play a 22 game season. Theres 3 games to go until post season. St Kilda hasnt won a championship since 1966…maybe this is the year

  • QOTD: Football-Cowboys (covered them in the 70s, still follow today). Baseball-Yankees (since I was a kid half century ago, catch them often on MLB.com). Basketball-Spurs (covered them at the birth of the franchise, gotta love my children). Acknowledge being a fan of front-runners/elites; maybe reason I enjoy Gary’s show. I’m former newspaper sports editor in San Antonio (and briefly New York), so I’ve been in the locker rooms, training camps, pressboxes. Tempered my reckless passions, did not extinguish. Now I write books and wine column for a newspaper when not watching WLTV. If you are lucky, Gary, Jets will lose to Cowboys in Super Bowl XLIV.

QOTD: Montreal Canadiens (all duh way)

Great episode GV, had the Cuvée Tradition a couple weeks back and was quite impressed. I would guess that the high acidity of the drier Chenins might turn some off (Savennieres in particular), but that’s what makes it such an excellent food wine…

  • I love Vouvray ~ always have and it is difficult to find a great tasting one. Thanks for bringing this episode to light. May come to the Wine Library for a case of 2007 Pinon Vouvray ~ that’s how much I would love a fine one!!

Qotd: My favorite is definitely the Dallas Cowboys. The Mavericks are a close second, but if I had to chose one or the other its the Cowboys.

  • WOW…. the dreaded reference to “dessert wine” again huh. I’m surprised that after the one guest you had you still use that term. He was very adiment as about it being a sauterne. But hey, what do I know. I see even Randi doesn’t pay to much attention to the correct pronunciation but then with all her connections I would imagine she can call it anything she wants. Hey, I got it, why don’t she just call it a creambrule wine. Or maybe a apple pie and ice cream wine. Yeah, that’s the ticket!!!

You would think she would spring for another 50 books at least with all her peeps. She can give them away like candy. Oh, that’s another good term. Candy wine…lol

Well, I liked the show but it seemed you were a little too stuffy on the opening and it carried through the whole show. Maybe someone scolded you about yelling and screaming and you took them seriously??

What is the world coming to? No loud yelling on the opening of the wine library TV show….hummmm. Interesting. I almost thought I had the wrong show. Seemed more like a Sir Vay-ner-chuk appearance in the making. I miss him!!!!!

QOTD: As you know I don’t follow sports but now that I know Randi has all these connections I just might want to go to a game and sit on the sidelines. I hear that is the coolest seat in the house. But I wouldn’t know because I’m not that privileged…..like Randi.

Vouvray underrated? Perhaps with the Turning Leaf crowd it is. Any serious wine drinker knows just how brilliant this wine can be. I usually think chamomile tea when I’m sniffing-sniffing Vouvray.

There’s a nice selection of Vouvrays and other Loire wines at Chamber Street Wines in NYC. Worth checking out.

My favorite team is the current hockey team I am playing on, of course. Pros, schmos.

Nice show, I learned something, and I may just go buy a bottle. A little subdued at the beginning!

  • University of Texas football my alma mater. Vouvray great, availability bad. So bring some on the next cruise so that we can all share. By the way, when is the announcement going up?

Don’t really like pro football . . . the salaries and attitudes of a few bad seeds have pretty much turned me off completely, I mean, come on, Tyrell Owens??

My heart is always with the Boomer Sooners of Oklahoma University, but since I live in Palo Alto now, Watch out for the Stanford Cardinal . . . Jim Harbaugh has done some good work here, and this year is his first recruiting class. Watch ’em.

    QOTD: NY JETS

Thanks so much for putting 3 back-to-back-to-back shows out this week. Although the blind tasting didn’t do so well you more than made up for it with the Vouvray episode. My fiance was watching this episode with me and was disappointed in your lack of enthusiasm (specifically the lack of a Vay-ner-chuk) at the beginning of the program… hopefully you’ll bring it back next time.

    Thanks.
