line of the day – ‘My wife has two nurses’

This guy might be a legend in the business and have a great back story, but he was just a little bit past it to make the show an entertaining one. GV did his best to tee the guy up but at 93 years of age waddayagonnado?

Great job Mr. Opici; what a remarkable life you have had! I need to get myself a jug of the ‘Homemade’.
    Smell it first. TR

  • John Farrin

If you would have let Sasha do the interview we would have had the first feature length episode in WLTV history 🙂

QOTD:)Laughing as we watch the Chinese lose their “Wealthiest nation on Earth” designation to Dubai. 🙂

that guy comes form a different piece of fabric that they don’t make anymore. it was great to hear him just lay it down + anybody gets respect when they start talking about venison dinners in the AC back in the day. also, he knows a guy named “carmine ” they don’t make many of them either these days.

qotd – i am too scared to think about it. at least i will be drinking some of the last of my o5’s : )
    hope you are well gary

  • Great interview…it’s legends like that that inspire my generation!

QOTD: Robert Parker and other “fine wine” reviewers will notice significant loss of readership due to the influx of talented wine bloggers and social media greats like GV.

  • GV, that was perhaps the best interview you’ve ever done. You were humble, respectful, and above all, you let the man answer the questions and didn’t interrupt. I know I called you out once before about interrupting, but I want to give credit where it is due. Great job!

  • Wow! You summed it up perfectly when you said a legend what a great guest! Gary you crossed the floor from being an amateur interviewer to being a pro with this episode, and liked that you didn’t taste any wine.

QOTD – Misha Vee will have taken over WLTV as GV will be too busy with his Jets!

great charming guest. wonderful warm smile.
qotd – it pains me to think what is going on with wars, global warming, pandemics and basic human greed today. I don’t see any hope for improvement,
no chance for change. not good. live for today.

Fantastic episode with a fascinating gentleman. I hope someone sits Mr. Opici down and records his whole life story. It would be a truly amazing document (hey, Gary, you don’t have anything else to do…).

QOTD: I have absolutely no idea, but I’m looking forward to finding out.

  • Tservo

Great guest, delightful man. I can remember sharing a glass of Opici with my dad in the 70’s. My dad’s usual wine tasted like it was fermented in the radiator of a ’58 DeSoto, so Opici was a big step up (his special holiday wine). GV, thanks for another wonderful episode.

Excellent show! I love that man! Can I rent him for a month!?

Gary, can you make the feeds and links open in another window, so I don’t leave the show when I go to share? I’ve tried to adjust on my browser, but it seems to be with your site – FYI

I love listening to the elders describe their lives. Big hug, GV, for respecting that aspect of your situation.
Wow…how to answer the QOTD…I hope I’m still kicking in a world that isn’t suffering from today’s mistakes. Loved the show!

QOTD: The world in 25 years? Well…Gary will be the owner of the NY Jets…this will bring the wine world and the world of sports together ..lol
Not sure about the rest..guess we’ll just keep repeating some of the same mistakes…but maybe we’ll all get it just a little bit better with each passing year.
    😉

    Great guest..
    Thank you Gary!
    Love ya,

He looks fantastic for 93. Charming guest and interview.

QOTD: Hope it’s better than today. I probably will have lost my sense of smell by then and will drink jug wines cause everything will taste the same to me. Might not be able to afford the high-end wines anymore. A bright future is in the works….

  • Michael Steele

WOW!! Amazing episode and amazing man. I can only hope to make it to 93 let alone look as good and have changed the wine world so much! Truly special to have a guy like Mr. Opici sit next to you, Gary.

Good show Gary. QOTD; We will just fine in the next 25 years. Don’t listen to these pessimistic schmucks who worry about phony issues like global warming. They will never be happy. I feel sorry for them.
