88/100

line of the day – ‘if you get your whole nose in there you’ll get a much higher level of sniffy sniffness’

Thought the format worked pretty well and GV handled the tasters very nicely…but the wise-guy in the hat annoyed me (for several reasons; a/ butting in, b/ the smug smile and c/ the hat). Also the sound was non-existent when GV went around the table for opinions. Hope the rest of the week turns out better

Gary it is pretty funny how much your scores for the same wine are all over the board. As far as the 2006 J Portugal Ramos Vila Santa Red:

    1. email sent from wine library where you tasted it and went crazy over the wine scoring it 92 Points.

    2. Then you taste it again on episode 679 you taste the same wine only a short time after sending the email and score the wine 90 Points

    3. Taste the same wine again in this episode and give it an 88+

Wow talk about scores all over the place. There is a huge difference between 88 and 92, one is just pretty good and the other outstanding WTF!

  • Loved the look you gave fez guy when he thought it would be a good idea to pour a lot of wine into his glass.

  • I liked the “atmosphere” that a table of guests brings. I agree about mic’ing them however. Also, panning out to see facial reactions to “sniffy-sniffs” and whirls would be great!

QOTD: Cali has better weather LOL

  • Portuguese whites are fun, but I’ve had bad luck with cheap Portuguese reds. Maybe I should air ’em out a little more and try again, but they usually turn out either green and nasty or faceless and overly fruity–not unpleasant, just meh.

Q: Please stand clear of the closing doors.

Yeah I would say the sound situation is off putting but will put those two reds on my list to try.

Wish I could join you in NYC! I enjoyed having the guests there & the interaction, but please have a microphone to pass around- I couldn’t hear their introductions or responses at all.

Looking forward to the Portuguese wines I bought from WL last month!

QOTD: Soho My favorite part of town when I was there.

  • Hey GV,

My Dad works for a major microphone company. I’m sure they’d love to give you one to use on your show. The sound was a distraction from the content.

G – You ARE aware that Vinho Verde is, implicitly, even by it’s name, made to be enjoyed immediately upon release, and not for consumption later than the year of release!?! I would put a caveat out there, and discourage people from buying any V.V. other than the current year’s vintage – and in many cases, it’s not even vintage dated!!! D(rink) Y(oungest) A(vailable).

Oops! Sorry. I’z reading comments while listening, and thought you had an ’06 V.V. My bad.

QotD – New York? Sister in Washington Heights, who’s been there over 25 years. Also, The Cloisters, St. Nick’s Jazz Pub in Harlem, Knitting Factory, Cathedral of St. John the Divine, Colunbia, NYU, ABC No Rio, Little Brasil, many museums, Ouest Restaurant, etc.

  • That dude in the goofy hat was annoying. Show was just okay for me due to the douchey guy and the lack of sound.

  • Johnny Johnny from Tiki Bar TV!!!!!!! Wow, major bonus points GV!!!

Now for the bad news. If you don’t figure out how to use microphones, I’m going on strike again!! Mott…fly out to LA, I’ll teach you…or GV, fly me to NJ and I’ll give lessons for wine. Big disservice to the viewers..gotta get this straightened out.

Portugese wines…I’m a big fan thanks to you! Recently found a Dao and was very pleased.

QOTD: NYC….great place to visit, wouldn’t want to live there.

Nice show, nice info, good audience.

QOTD: You say NY City, I say the night I was returning from Studio 54 and took the wrong subway.

I didn’t end up at 116th and Broadway, but 116th and Frederick Douglass at 4 AM.

    Very scary.
