Easy drinking episode, but the whole thing is a bit too cosy to blow my socks off. Still having said that I’m looking forward to part two!

I don’t care if you cut the guest off, but get a mic on them! Laptop speakers just don’t bring the Thunder – unless you’re speaking Gary! My mom can hear YOU in the other room! No, but some amplification on your soft spoken guests would be nice.

    Thanks, b-man

Good show – my wife and I are going to Napa over the Labor Day weekend and we always stop by Chimney Rock in Stag’s Leap. When Chimney Rock was acquired by Terlato I didn’t know what to think, but after seeing Tony Terlato speak, the brand won’t get diluted.

Tony, you are the man! I grew up north-side chicago (Evanston). I went to Armaetti’s on Western Av with my father as a young man, and I was so impressed with the size of the store, and that we were shopping a liquor store with a grocery cart! I wonder if you sold to a small place, the farthest in Chicago on the lake @ Sheridan & Rodgers Av. (Beechview Liquors). Chicago rules over the east coast.
    Smell it first. TR

This was great – legend is a hard category to crack, but this guy is quite the wine industry pioneer and still seems to be pushing things along!

    Now, where is part 2?

Also, wish this guy called GV out on his regular Santa Margareta ‘bashing’…

Great show Gary. I have been a fan of Terlanto wines since my trip to Napa last year. Stopped in at Rutherford Hill and tried the Terlanto Peak series of wines. This would be a good show
    Looking forward to part two.

I’m at work and just dying for a sip of solid Pinot after watching this. Hopefully I can hold off until after breakfast when the nightshift is over.

    Looking forward to part 2.

My volume was up all the way, but I couldn’t hear a word this guest was saying. Very disappointing.

  • I have had one Teralto wine and really was impressed. Always good to hear from the people who got the wine business going in the US.

such a great guest on this episode, it was wonderful to watch. And how special to have somebody who has not only been through 30, 40, 50 years of the wine business, but has changed what we as consumers buy on many levels.

one thing that I’m curious about and would like further explanation: he was a little contradictory with the pinot noir – he sent the winemaker over to Burgundy to create a California pinot noir that is just like those in Burgundy … but he “overpaid” for the RRV plot because he believes in the terroire of the land. Gary, do you think one is ignoring the terroire of California’s Russian River Valley by creating a wine that is meant to mimic the greats from Burgundy??

    Yo GV,

I am thoroughly confused. Why is it that so many California Pinot Noir producers make a point to give a long-winded speech about the importance of site-specificity and individuality (e.g. “Terroir”), and then go on to talk about how their ultimate goal is to make a Pinot Noir that tastes like it’s from Burgundy. Am I the only one who thinks this glaring hypocrisy is totally ridiculous?!! I think it’s about time you start calling people out on this nonsense.

  • nice guest. pinot noir is under drank.

  • I def agree with Elliot on that. Well said. If you want a “french-like” pinot noir get some vineyard land in Burgundy.
