Just when I think it can’t get any better, here you go. Nice, nice show.

btw: your interviewing style is engaging not interuptive. I just thought all of your professional critics would like to know that 🙂

Oh my Lord above, this was GREAT, I do not mean really really good, I mean GREAT.

To listen and watch someone that is as vibrant and knowledgeable as Mr. Goldschmidt is a joy and honor. Thank you Gary for this wonderful guest.

Interesting guest – the banter was entertaining – glad the two of you could “dumb it down” enough for us lower class folk.

One of my favorite episodes with a guest. Nick’s personality is very similar to mine. Love the joking, kick back attitude he puts off. So far I am pretty entertained.

Gary, always love your show, been watching for years, but this guest made me uncomfortable. He started pretty much obnoxious. Only mellowed a bit when you threatened not to order so much wine from him. BYW..you switched glasses with him after the first wine…….ew!!

GV – Congrats on the New York Time article today!!!! Well deserved. When I was half awake on the train this morning opening the paper I didn’t expect to see that. Might need to link that up!

I am looking forward to Part 2. When is the Long Island Wine Show?

Excellent show Gary. It’s been a while since I could watch an entire episode (not sure why I’m having trouble btw). Entertaining and informative.

Made Up QOTD: You’re interviewing skillz are good. Stop worrying about those naysayers.

Oh yeah, & for the books, the last time I had purple nerds was probably 4 months ago, gooseberries a few years ago, & I still need to try a star fruit 😛

You should try to get Charles Back on the show. Have you ever had a South African winemaker as a guest?

  • Yes! Excellent show, the exchange is like watching the finals at Wimbledon. Who cares what people say about the length of the interviews, please tell me that this is part 1 of 3.
I’ve watched all of Nick’s, old school with the big paper and markers, videos before and found him very amiable, knowledgeable, and entertaining…so this is a real pleasure to watch. The breakdown of the NZ terroir was great (how come the spell check in the comments does not recognize “terroir” on this, of all sites!?).

A 96 points episode. Great guest and the interruption ratio hit the spot. Wish tapes were longer to make this a 2 hour epic. The cereal episode / NY Times article / and this make a hefty sandwich.

  • oh yeah…I’ve had both the gooseberries and the star fruit, but no grape nerds.
    Point Goldschmidt.
I guess I could give them nerds a shot in the interest of oenology and palate expansion, but Aussie shiraz is not that high on my list…I’d rather go for anything from Errazuriz. Had a couple at the vendemia in Pirque last year that were pretty awesome.

I’ve had gooseberries too, good fruit. I’m guessin this is gonna be a 2 parter.
Gotta say, havent really learned anything from this episode, but damn if it isn’t entertaining. Nick Goldschmidt is great.
& oh yeah, I been bugging you lately about doing a charbono tasting. I totally forgot to bring up vin jaune’s till now. I would LOVE to see an episode on VIN JAUNE’S [yellow wine from jura, but you know that i’m sure.]
So, sorry Gary but 2 things to bug you about now. Charbono, and vin jaune.
    The gauntlet has been thrown.

AAAOOOOOOSOME show! I did want to hear about the fruit before you started yapping about nerds. Good point tho. I can’t really remember nerds but the gooseberry jam I bought has been sitting in my fridge for years. For us baby boomers, we do know more about bad candy and bad cereal than good fruit.

Interesting to see Australian/NZ humour, culture clash where Gary didn’t get that Nick by taking the piss out of Australia showed he liked Australia. Oh the joys of culture clash
