Lines of the day – ‘I am a legend. What you have to appreciate is I’m one of the greats’ and ‘I hate the package’

Phenomenal episode(s) and I agree with Karl (below) that these shows normally work best when the guests are able to match GV’s personality and knowledge. And Gary, you are 100% spot on, the label on that 2nd wine is a shocker.

  • QOTD: I’m “meh” on the label. I don’t think it huts the image of what’s in the bottle; neither does it overly attract me to want to buy the wine on the looks of the label alone (not much could make me do that anyways).

    GREAT SHOW!

QOTD: The label is a “good first attempt”. I think it’s a bit too refined to reflect a child’s drawing. I’m gonna have to side with Gary on this one.

Yes, Gary…your guest is awesome..knowledgable and interesting to listen to..thank you for bringing such people to the show…

QOTD: Sorry..but .. NO. lol Seriously..you asked…not wanting to be negative..but a female silhouette and some colored lines thru it, just doesnt do it.. HOWEVER.. congrats on the contents of the bottle…which is whats really important.

I like the label but it’s too small and it looks like you did it to look like she did it. Make it bigger and have young kid really color outside the lines. Beauty concept and a great show boys. thanks you sooooo much. You’ve made my day and I will be ordering some of the cab and especially the Merlowwwwww!
20 bones and you barely give it a 89? It clearly beat the pants off any 20 dollar Merlot you’ve had in the last year?
Maybe best not to rate the wines when the 8th best winemaker in the universe is sharing his wine and life with you.

Gary: Regarding you comments from the other day. We all know that you don’t edit the show and the video tape lasts only an hour. Why not take a quick pause to put an additional tape in when the “red light is flashing” and then there’s no limitation on “getting all your questions in in two 30 minute shows”. You could do three and four part episodes and not have to stop at the arbitrarily imposed tape limitation. Give that some thought…

While I’m at it and you said you’re reading/responding to the comments more recently. Why don’t you dump the old school Flip cam you have (non-HD 4:3 format) for one of the new HD Flip cams? The picture is a LOT better & widescreen plus they’re only $200-ish bones so that’s not breaking the bank. You could give away the old one as a contest prize or to a relative or whatever. A win-win!

  • Jay

    Love the banter πŸ™‚

Gary – Your interviews are MUCHh better when the guest can keep up with you and share in the give-n-take like this gentleman.

When the guest is more laid back or long winded, it feels like you dominate them and interrupt them, but when they keep pace and trade barbs, the episode’s a winner every time!

  • Brilliant guest, literally, he shines.

I think overall, California Cabernet is overrated but people seem to gravitate towards it and like I have commented before, I have had so much Cabernet I hardly miss it, at any price point.

QOTD: I like the label, although a variation with only the silhouette on top and all the lettering on the bottom would be great as well (it’s only an opinion).

Awesome, awesome awesome guest. Great sense of humor and clearly a great winemaker. Gary these shows with the legends of the wine business are the greatest. You keep outdoing yourself. Gary you have to taste the cab he gave you on one of the shows you do from your condo.

QOTD: I love the label it has a story behind it that means something. What really is important is what is in the bottle and on that front all signs appear to be good.

  • ex-lurkdawg

Thanks for another great 2 part episode! I don’t really like or dislike that label.

Wow, Nick is a straight PIMP! Trading barbs with GV like he’s been doing it his whole life! Interesting stuff guys, and you even mentioned my fave too Petit Verdot, when are you gonna do another PV show?!

QOTD: Label is ok…I don’t usually buy by the label.

QOTD: Yes, I do like the label…and my reason is largely based on the story behind it. I think that one of the best marketing techniques out there is to tell the small story behind your product…then you can hook the customer. I liked the show…and even more I am interested in trying one of your wines now….thanks, for sharing.

Same sentiment from yesterday – a GREAT episode!!

He truly demonstrates the level of knowledge that would just love to sit around and listen as he describes the land, the process etc, etc, etc.

QOTD – I think the label is just fine. But it is the wine that will sell the label ultimately, not the other way around.
