Lines of the day – ‘I am a legend. What you have to appreciate is I’m one of the greats’ and ‘I hate the package’

Phenomenal episode(s) and I agree with Karl (below) that these shows normally work best when the guests are able to match GV’s personality and knowledge. And Gary, you are 100% spot on, the label on that 2nd wine is a shocker.

  • Best 2-parter in WLTV history. Great chemistry, interesting and enjoyable guest. 98 points. (-2 for “not available” wines).

QOTD: I like the label because of the idea behind it

Great show, one of the best interviews and interaction.

QOTD; On the label, stick to making wine.

That’s kinda funny cause I was going to comment on the label anyway. I do like the label and I had the exact opposite reaction. When I saw it in my local grocery I thought it was supposed to be pricier. I almost bought it. Next time I’ll pick one up. Great episode.

Hi Gary, Really really fun show. He’s made me curious about Alexander valley. Will have to do some research. QOTD-I like it only after knowing the story behind it.

  • QOTD: So crazy because I was going to comment on how bad that label was before you guys even started talking about it. Even worse than the image is the font on the word “Merlot.”

  • Hey Guys

Great show; I really enjoyed the banter. Interesting with Nick comments on the Australian New Zealand rivalry. I think this is a pretty much one-sided thing. New Zealanders live in a little country in the middle of nowhere and thus feel they have to prove themselves and have invented this so-called ‘rivalry’. Australian’s really don’t feel the same, if we think about New Zealand’s it’s more in a friendly manner.

QOTD: So-so, certainly doesn’t rock-my-boat, but don’t hate it either.

    Cheers
    Andrew

awesome episodes, def one of the best interviews, so casual. and yea, ozzies, ick, blah.

Gary are you comming to the Hudson Valley food and wine festival? Dutchess county fair grounds sat 12 and sun 13. Ill bring you some wild blueberries from the Shwangunk mountains.

qotd: I like the lable, but I agree with gary, the execution is poor. I like the concept, but I wouldnt have got it if you hadnt told me. Also, it clearly isnt hand drawn or anything so lets not get tooooo attached to it.

Nick it’s easy to see why other wineries hire you to do consultant work. And with wine of such a high caliber, who gives a shit about the label. How about being the first to make a wine ‘scratch & sniff’ label? Get my email from Gary, so I can be a part of this; alright mate?
    Smell it first. TR

  • THAT was one of the best, well, structured, spontaniously funny/serious WLTV eps I have ever seen. Take a bow Gary & Nick!!!
Your interviwing skills were # 1. The information portrayed to the viewers was gold, this fella is a great example of a PASSIONATE winemaker & he really knows his shit!!! Congratulations on you Gary and your guest Nick. This 2 parter needs to go on the Favorite Episodes column.

    QOTD…I Iike the label…no worries!!!

Nick turned himself around in the 2nd episode. Turned into a likeable guy.

QOTD: Like the label, more like the story behind it. Gary wait til little Misha draws her first self-portrait. It’ll be the new Wine Library Logo! 😉

Hi Gary, I love your shows! I have always loved watching your “business-related” shows and keynotes and have never been that interested in the “wine” part of your business. I decided to watch this full episode and I have to say that it was really….really entertaining. I will watch it on T.V. when you get a deal!

QOTD – Horrific label, keep paying for the graphic designers…

Gary – doesn’t make it look like a $7 wine – even $7 wines have better labels now.

“That’s not going to happen.” Priceless, even though we all know that he can come back aolmost any time he wants to.

Thank you for these episodes. Nick Goldschmidt is a fascinating fellow, and I always enjoy getting a peek into the mind of a winemaker. Please invite him back, maybe for a blind tasting episode.

The only thing I can’t figure out is how you managed to fit into such a small space two such enormous egos.

QOTD: Fantastic concept, decent execution. I think it may be the colors that are offputting, but that’s just a guess based on what I saw on a computer screen. If Mr. Goldschmidt wants to send me a bottle, I’d be more than happy to give him a more considered opinion.

  • Gotta say those were some really great shows (2 parter). Thanks Nick. Very entertaining. I’ll have to hunt some of the wines down to try out.

QOTD: I have to agree with Gary, the label makes it look like a lower priced wine. The thought is great, and a few tweeks is all I think it needs to bring it up a notch. Can’t fault the effort though.

Super great guest, super great show. Thanks G. and Nick. I am on the lookout for that Estate Cab.

QOTD: Could be better, could be worse. It is what is in the bottle that matters. At least it’s not screwcap.
