88/100

line of the day -‘delightful little bugger’

Maybe it was just me but I got the impression GV was scoring these wines slightly higher than they deserved because he didn’t want to disappoint the Vayniacs who had bought them.

First off, I think this is a great idea for a show…what are this week’s wines?!!

Second, it’s about time the Cork’d site got some attention! I was beginning to wonder what was going on there – featuring the same wine for something like a year. I was finding it to be a great way to keep track of what was sitting in my wine “cellar” and compare my tasting notes with others, but had lost interest as a result of the low maintenance factor since I’ve joined. Incidently I had just logged in last week for the first time in months in an attempt to see what someone else thought of what I was drinking…

  • Well, it’s tuesday morning and the monday announcement for friday show are…

    Kahuna might be right 🙂

Even more so, despite of GV’s business savvy (?), quality, even in social media, will eventually pay off or put off. Asking people to post taste notes at Cork’d and then not do it himself is a bit of a disrespect for clients/members/viewers.

I understand the massive hours GV is putting in at all his different projects, but to crush it one must stay focused, right?

  • My corkd name is Marz. Been on there for over 2 years (at least that’s what 2 of my 3 reviews say;) ). Just now worked on my profile. And yes, we’re drinking buddies already!

It is definitely not on there by mistake. This could be a conflict of interest with his reviews of wines, what’s next, sponsorship by E & J Gallo?

This was my first visit after hearing you on Dr. Oz XM show. What fun! I’m a new fan for sure. I love the bold, spicy reds like Amarone and Zin, so I’m anxious to try the Allegrini. In ’95 or ’96, I had a wonderful zin from Silverado Winery in Napa at a restaurant in Denver. It must have been a late harvest because it was definitely raisin-y, but what I loved, loved, loved was the very distinct taste of fresh-cracked black pepper it was screaming at my palate! Where can I get more of this spicy, black pepper taste? I ask everywhere and everyone, and no one has given me a satisfactory answer. Do you know?

    Gary,

Even though I can’t afford all the wines you taste, and I can’t really to taste along with you either, it’s still a blast to watch you. I check out your site nearly everyday for great deals to use on my under-$20 wine review site, WineWelfare.com.

Hope that’s ok with you. Ha!

Keep up the great work, man.

Man you really want to take Cellar Tracker now!
Why don’t you use Cellar Tracker instead of Corkd? It’s already out there and I can’t tell the difference besides CT having many more bottles, many more reviews and having much more experience. Good luck with Corkd in any case!

  • good little show, I agree that maybe this could be done on the Friday couch.
Some lead time on the wines might help us out too. Give yourself a break and maybe do this every two weeks or so, it’s a great idea, but then maybe Kahuna will not be breathing down your neck.
    QOTD: BurroBoy …keeping it simple.

Gary, late comment here. Tasting solo so I chose the Allegrini, although I didn’t notice it was the 05 until watching the episode. I didn’t get dark chocolate, but I will agree it was black tea city down in that glass. Paired it with some cheese and the tea faded leaving some nice fruit. Good idea for a show. I was already a corkd member, and you already friended me up. Thanks.

QOTD: youngdave is my username, and I created it back when you announced your takeover of cork’d. I have to admit that I haven’t posted any scores on there in about 2 years, which is a shame because I’m reviewing about 10 to 20 new wines per week now… I’ll try to get on that.

  • Late to the trio tasting. I, too, love the quiet solo episodes where yo get down to tasting some interesting wines based on feedback and recommendations from your fellow Vayniacs.

QOTD: Take a wild guess . . . yes, Dominus. As here, been there from the beginning.

    Cheers!
