Episode 745 and the review of Espuela del Gaucho shows that Gary does not know or understand the flavor of wine. He indicated it was “aromatically challenged” but then tasted it and said it tasted like plums. The taste in the mouth consists only of bitter, sweet, sour, salt and umami. In order to experience the flavor of plums, you have to have the unique aroma of plums. It cannot be “aromatically challenged” and have the aroma of plums at the same time.

He appears just to make up things as he goes along. Of course, he will ignore this comment and continue with make believe tastings.

Nice episode. Came across it whilst searching for a Malbec episode as I’m just tucking into an Argentinian Malbec with a similar price to the one you reviewed (£5.99), opened in anticipation of a steak dinner tonight!

Nice show. The only real ‘own brand’ wines I tend to buy are from Marks and Spencer (a old school English department store). In Hong Kong I find they offer real value and varital flavour.

QOTD: “Andrew Dawson Rocks” of course!

    Cheers
    Andrew
