line of the day – ‘Now this is bombastic…a bit like me’

I think this episode is when GV finally realises that Mott’s opinions on wine are pretty much meaningless and treats them as such!

  • Another fun episode. Grenache is my favorite varietal, and shiraz/Grenache is one of my favorite blends. QOTD: my motorcycle!

GV- your ear seems close enough to the ground of this industry to keep changing the wine world and inspiring people to pursue their own passions. WLTV benefits from your comfort; so, listen to your gut and keep doing what you do so well. Hats-off to the people behind the scene too. Much luck to you all.

    QOTD: my sister

Wow, am I the only one that hated the “Look me in the eye” label? If I saw that in the store, I would have laughed.

QOTD: My best friend’s name is Ray – he was the Best Man at my wedding and I’ve known him since high school (30+ years). Of course, Lady Zee is awesome, and while my wife is my friend as well, that’s a tad different in my opinion.

    Tom,

I thought the label was goofy too.

    QOTD: Hmmm Jeff? Pete?
I have some really close friends, but I don’t think I can narrow one down to a best friend or all time greatest..
Screw it. None of them. They all suck!

  • QOTD: My buddy Dino. We’ve known each other for close to 25 years and don’t see each other much any more (families, work, life–too much) but always great to see & talk to him.

My favourite all-time friend? So difficult to pick one at my age, I’ve had so many favourite all-time friends by now, and I keep changing too (my personality, my preferences). Do you want a whole essay on this? Not. I’d have to say my husband Joe. Why? We have nothing in common except our life together of 24 years, but he is the most steadfast, unselfish, caring, care-taking, harbour in my life. There’s a lot more, but this in short. How about you? Tell us on the show. (And #746 already?? We just made a big deal about #700…yesterday.)

ALSO, I like that you’re trying out some oddballs. You can get lucky in any price range or category. Doubt these are available in Canada (Plonk, Look Me in the Eye), but if I come across them somewhere else, I’ll certainly try them.

What about decanting? Do you decant the wines you try on the show at all? I know the bottles are open, but is that it? And are they open for very long? A lot of wines (you know this much better than me) just don’t show their proper stuff right out of the hatch. I’ve often wondered.

  • Another Prisoner Fan

    Thanks for another good show.
If the Banknote is anything close to The Prisoner then, respectively, I will have to do a double pazzzz and pass on the pazzzz. The vault is now reopened until further notice . For me 3-4 hours of decanting is well worth the reward if Banknote becomes something close to the Prisoner. I am actually pretty excited about trying the Banknote. Thanks for reviewing this one and mentioning the Prisoner.

  • Gary, Amazing pace, I am so happy you’re coming to Montreal for the Crushit Book launch. I will see you there buddy.

QOTD: My favourite all time friend is Mrs. T, she was my baby sitter as a child and I have continued to be her friend, talking to her once a week since I was 18 months old.

    Hi Gary,

Love the obscure wines. More please!
Getting right to the wines is awesome.
It’s easier to fit in a shorter show into my daily routine.

QOTD: Hmmm, that’s a tough one. I guess it would be a toss up between my two childhood friends, Dominic (deceased) and Haggai. Having someone in your life for so long, even off and on, really makes a difference. Haggai is living in Maui right now, so we can only talk on the phone, but I still cherish his friendship. My husband David is also my friend, but I agree that spouses are a different category.

Can’t wait to see you on the 25th in Berkeley!

Look Me In The Eye is made by Lanai a guy from Hawaii.

You pronounce his name just the same as the porch/patio “lanai”.

QOTD: An emotive question for me Gary: my favourite all time friend Steve sadly passed away from Cancer just after his 30th birthday in 2007. God bless him, miss him every day. See you in the next life Steve – I’ll have a cd for you when I arrive. R.I.P.

My wife of 34 years hands down. My golfing buddies are buddies and I would go on any golf trip but I can go anywhere with my wife except golf. By the by, I am a big fan of Orin Swift’s the Prisoner.
