line of the day – ‘Now this is bombastic…a bit like me’

I think this episode is when GV finally realises that Mott’s opinions on wine are pretty much meaningless and treats them as such!

The look me in the eye was kind of creepy, but the review makes me think if I see it staring at me in a store, I might have to look back at it more closely.
I have seen the Plonk on a shelf, but wondered who would name a wine like that? What is next, a Chard/Pinot Grigio named Horse Piss? Even if the wine is good, sometimes the marketing is just too cute…without the GV thumbs up I would probably not give it a second look. There is a lot of wine out there. Sorry Mr. Plonk.

QOTD: my better half of course…but since the question was “what” I can say it was my cat Looney who passed a couple of years ago, she was an awesome, reliable pal and teacher and was loved by many. My wife will understand, she was one on Looney’s biggest fans…and the cat did come first.

Gary nice episode buddy! Today we opened a cheapo bottle that we’d had several times before, but I tasted something new…fake vegitables….i’d had plenty of fake fruit, but not fake veggies…weird.

QOTD: My best friend besides Lady Paryb, is my best pal Chris Wickham. Just an awesome dude, who knows all about being in a long term relationship, being a dad, and my favorite thing about Chris, He’s a winemaker!! HAHA!

Wow Gary, are you going to be in Alabama? I am definately going to have to try and make Montgomery. I am in Tuscaloosa. I’m afraid SEC is king arround here.
Great show. We all love the wine centered format. Hopefully it will take up less of your time so you can spend it with your wife and new little one. A crazy show and a guest now and then are good too.
Thank you for your content it is sooo much apreciated.
    Nostrovia!

  • Hey Gary,
I thought you might finally try the vino I sent you back in Feb or March… but will have to hold on a bit longer. My best friends always come through, lie Matt, who is there whenever, even if he’s been living on the other side of the plant in Singapore for a while….
    Cheers

    SERIOUS QUESTION:

Gary–I like to score wines like you. How do you score a wine if the nose sucks but the palate is great (or vice versa). Thanks!!

GV…….nice episode. Good to see something totally different especially Non-Vintage wine.

    QOTD:
If it is a “WHO” then would be my better half and my pal Pete who I’ve known since we were very young. If it is a “WHAT” then I don’t have one… LOL

    Hey Gary,

like that show! Nice to see you drink some weird wines. As you mentioned Bogle… I recently had their petit Syrah which you scored 89 and I liked it a lot! Perhaps a bit mainstream but anyway worth the money.

    Regards from Germany

Boring show. Wines where not great.
Did you ever tried a Belgian wine?
If not, try the Genoels Elderen Goud or
    Clos d’Opleeuw
    Both Chardonnay. And fascinating.

QOTD. I didn’t understand the question.

    Great pace G !!! Money.
But how about some wines for us out-of-work, street-urchins, for under $3.

Seriously, I like dark so I am gonna try the “EYE” …… how many years would the “EYE” last in the cellar?

    AotD: What? = Music!
    AotD: Who? = Wife!

Good pace. I do enjoy the banter and sometimes dwelling on the wines a little longer, but getting to the point is GOOD.

QOTD: My husband, who also is named Gary.

  • Gary,

Would love to see you do a tasting of the new line of Soprano’s Wines. They have an entry level line (Italian line of Pinot Grigio, Pinot Noir and Chianti) and a second tier selection (Chianti Classico and Riserva). I wrote about when they were in town promoting them. Maybe one of them would come on your show and taste with you?

Fun story about John Ventimiglia (Artie Bucco) if you want it. Let’s just say he lives the life.

  • Back to basics which is great. I’ve been watching a few older episodes and it takes about ten minutes of ‘announcements'(now no longer applicable) before we get to the wine on the table.

    QOTD: My car.

Good pace as many have mentioned but lacking in the “thunder” department, a little subdued. Pace is important but in answer to your mind bending QOTD,”thunder” is “what is your favorite friend” if your a rabid GV fan. Peace.

Thanks gv, got your reply after emailing you like 5 months ago. Nevertheless, thanks!
I’ve been writing comments quite often until lately where i got a lil busier and i’m not too sure if you have the time to read all of ’em.

anyway, here i am once again, QOtd: cant fully answer that question, but alcohol do seem like a nice friend at times to just chill and keep things a lil calmer (sounds alcoholic eh,,….anyway, there’s a difference between chilllin’ and getting drunk on problems!)

    cheers GV!

Lots of folks have given you kudos for the short show, so I want to just slip in a vote for the longer, “nerdy” episodes. Really, though, it is all about variety. Keep doin’ what you’re doin’, Gary. Great show.

QOTD: My best friend is my wife. I don’t feel obligated to say that, it is just a pleasant fact that I’ve gotten to live with my best friend for the past 23 years.
