line of the day – ‘Now this is bombastic…a bit like me’

I think this episode is when GV finally realises that Mott’s opinions on wine are pretty much meaningless and treats them as such!

  • Gary, Thanks for the review, even though you pazzzed on it. I respectfully disagree with you about decanting it though, give it a few hours and it will really open up into something quite beautiful, balanced and complex. Maybe you can taste it again tonight (or tomorrow) after its been open a few hours and let us know what you think? I think you’ll really be blown away by the difference.

I really hope you can try my 07 blend, I’m really excited about this wine. Its not released for another 2 weeks, but its a similar blend and an explosive fruit bomb! 44% Zin, 35% Syrah, and 21% Cabernet Sauvignon……100% Napa Valley.

If anyone from the NY area wants to try my wine, its sold by the glass at all 3 Capital Grille restaurants in NY. Del Friscos Steak House also has it on their menu, as well as several other fine restaurants in various states (list is on my website).

Thanks again Gary for the review, and keep pumping out the shows!

Hey, Gary, Can’t believe you’re going to Montgomery AL for the CrushIt tour and not to Raleigh-Durham NC. Lots of wine drinkers here and a strong wine industry too. Hopefully next time.

Alrighty. Thanks for the content. How’s about a good ‘ol laid-back Friday with somethin’ nice. Maybe a look at an ’06 Bordeaux or two?

Hey GV, I liked this episode. Thanks for trying some random wines. So can you help us get the “Look Me In The Eye”? It does not look to be readily available.

    What happened to reading comments?

QOTD – did you just ask what is your favorite friend? too hard to answer who that would be… I am luck to have a bunch of great friends!

These quick-shot, un-themed shows seem to work for you. Don’t know if there’s some deep meaning there?

QOTD: That would be Sarah, whom I met in college mumble-mumble years ago. She’s amazing and I love her to bits (in a platonic sort of way).

Thanks for the show, Gary. Good theme. Listening to you talk about how your palette has changed, I just don’t understand how people can get themselves so wrapped up in a) how you rate any individual wine, or b) how any critic for that matter rates any individual wine. I agree with you that it’s fun to give scores, but I don’t think that enough people honestly acknowledge what a contextual, point-in-time type of thing it is.

QOTD: A buddy from the Peace Corps. 16 years later and 3 continents later, we’re still super close.

Good episode. Lousey GOTD. Friends should not be things (i.e. “what”), friends should be people (i.e. “who”). I know you know that, so I’m kind of stummped by your QOTD.

Great ep. I like the focus.

QOTD: That would be the only person I could ever stand to live with, work with and just generally be around 24/7 – my wife Julie.

QOTD: That would be the husband of 23 years, whose birthday is today (he’s on the phone with his Mom right now and mine has gone to bed, so I am watching you!)

I also liked the pace very much- and the oddball selection of wines- fun!
Loved the 60 seconds of stuff you’re not going to talk about: like a .sit file, no Stuffit Expander needed! 😉

These shorter shows are so much easier to handle on a day-to-day basis; especially when I’m sitting down to watch at 10pm. Hope the flight to London goes well.

QOTD: So, your question really should have been posed with a “who” rather than “what” is your favorite friend, but that’s neither here nor there right? If I get to look over my lifetime even to the friends I have lost, I’m going with Erin Adler. If I’m thinking about life right now, I’m going Jason Mejeur.

    Keep it real.

What a great, to the point, quick, no nonsense episode!

I’ve had the Vault by Banknote wine several times, and it really does benefit from 3-4 hours of decanting. I’m a big fan of the stuff.

If I ever see Plonk, I’ll give it a try.

    qotd: My girlfriend.

  • The look me in the eye was kind of creepy, but the review makes me think if I see it staring at me in a store, I might have to look back at it more closely.
I have seen the Plonk on a shelf, but wondered who would name a wine like that? What is next, a Chard/Pinot Grigio named Horse Piss? Even if the wine is good, sometimes the marketing is just too cute…without the GV thumbs up I would probably not give it a second look. There is a lot of wine out there. Sorry Mr. Plonk.

QOTD: my better half of course…but since the question was “what” I can say it was my cat Looney who passed a couple of years ago, she was an awesome, reliable pal and teacher and was loved by many. My wife will understand, she was one on Looney’s biggest fans…and the cat did come first.
