line of the day – ‘Now this is bombastic…a bit like me’

I think this episode is when GV finally realises that Mott’s opinions on wine are pretty much meaningless and treats them as such!

I appreciate you bringing the thunder in a shorter periode of time. I think your trying to go that route please do. When you have a guest I understand but I always have to watch your shows and when they are 30 mins long it kills my day.. Today you gave me alot of info in 10 min instead of giving me the same info and dragging it out like you normally do, but your entertaining so its kool. Keep it short thanks

Solid show Gary. I would love to see more “California Field Blends” on the show like wines from Elyse, Ridge, ect. They have great price points to qaulity and for me, really express the uniqueness of the California wine industry.

    QOTD: … yes, my wife.

favorite all time friend? my girlfriend. she’s great.

Gary, I believe, as you seem to, that scoring is never completely objective, but I do think that you might allow your personal taste to play a bigger role in your scoring than is reasonable. I am mainly referring to wines that show a lot of green character, such as the one today. Your description sounded like that of a muddled, underripe mess that might have had some really hot climate grapes thrown in to try to compensate for the greenness. I like that you have often spoken out against scoring and listening to others in general, but I respect your palate and your tasting notes are generally very similar to mine. Your scores, however, are sometimes quite different. I believe a wine made from underripe grapes is inherently not good. You seem to disagree, but isn’t ripeness (not overripeness, mind you) an aspect of quality?

Hey MikePos: Maybe you “successful guys” can afford to impress yourselves with how much you spend on fermented grape juice but I for one remember the original premise of the Thunder Show. A talented, slightly demented wine fanatic educating, entertaining and informing regular folk with an eye on value. I think Gary has reviewed plenty of over-priced, unavailable vino on this show and if you don’t agree – hit the archives and see for yourself.
Loved this and every other show.

QOTD: My best friend is my daughter – Complete trust and acceptance, regardless of my many flaws.

  • As 1 of the 3 people who are responsible for the creation of ‘plonk’ my hat comes off to Gary V for putting my wine on his show as he promised. For us small, passionate wine people it’s great to have a guy like GV out there reviewing everything.

Oh and to MikePos: We hope to have a ‘Superplonk’ for you someday soon.

    Cheers!!

  • Fast paced reviews, a welcome instance.

I am a very curious about the banknote wines. The labels of the four wines are very cool.

QOTD: without offending anyone, my favorite all time friend would be my dog, Lobo but there have been so many “friends” over the years…

  • Hey Gary,

I loved the fast-format of the show – Sniffy sniff, Taste, Assess -> Next Wine. Great!!! Good to see you looking at some wines that were off the beatin’ track. Good solid show.

QOTD…My girlfriend, I will pop the question soon, but whats the rush!! We’ve got two great kids, she’s got a heart of gold, she’s honest, hard working & trust worthy, couldn’;t ask for more!!!The only prob is she only drinks sweet wine…oh well!!

    Nice show.
    Love the pace.
    It’s i, 2, 3, 4, and out.
Quick, to the point, informative, and,
I won’t be late for supper.
QOTD- No question, my wonderful wife of 44 years.

Would like to see most of the episodes in the 15 minute-ish range.

Send that Patriots onsie up my way, I’ll give it to a friend’s kid. BTW, Brady and his boys will deliver an @$$ woopin’ to your jets later this season when they come to visit Foxborough.

QOTD – Patrick (great friend who I met at my first job out of college)

BTW…The question should have been asked “WHO (not what) is your favorite all time friend?”

Would love to see you review some Rhode Island and Massachusetts wines sometime. My wife and I are loving the show, keep up the good work!

  • John R – has it crossed your mind that – maybe, just maybe – Gary tapes more than one episode per day (hint… he does)!

Gary, really enjoyed the show. Those Grenache/Syrah blends always suck me in too. Although, the other night I had 12 Vines Pino Noir and it really got me excited for a $20 bottle (& they didn’t even have to add Syrah).

Just a thought… You should definitely do a show this year from a football tailgate.

Loved the show and the tasting notes. The style is more like the shows that hooked me in years ago.
