Interesting for the unusual wines featured and GV’s positive reaction to them. Nice

  • well I think that look me wine, really caught my attention with it’s beautiful label right at the beginning, and after knowing that it’s the wine that got the best score of the 4 really make it worth it.
QOTD: My all time best friend, is the one I had since I’m 8years and I’m 29 now!

qOTd: Unique wine: a TBA-style riesling by Chateau St Jean from the 80s. I think it was about 35% residual sugar and a feel like I can still taste it today.

    Interesting show, GV, thanks.

I enjoy the nerd factor, thanks!

QOTD: Most unique? Hmmmm, that’s a tough one. I think it was a wine we just had at our monthly tasting- Vermont Montcalm, white (minnesota grape- lacrosant(misspelled) made in Belmont VT of all places, surprised the heck out of all of us!

QOTD: Probably an accident zinfandel that I think was the 2001 vintage of Karly out of Amador county. I had tried to serve this wine six months prior to actually consuming it but couldn’t get my Rabbit opener to work. I tried several times to pull the cork and the opener just wouldn’t do it. I finally gave up and put the bottle back in the rack and forgot about it. Six months later my sister was visiting and since we were having Baby Back Ribs that night I went to the zin rack and found the bottle of Karly which, by then, showed a noticably leaking cork. I figured that the bottle had gone bad but, what the hell, opened it anyway. My sister and I took our first sips at almost the same time. We just looked at each other and blurted out “Whoa!”. The initial attack was almost pure alcohol but followed immediately by the most intense pure fruit explosion I have ever experienced in a wine. It was like drinking a fortified wine that had fresh, unfortified fruit. Both of us still think it’s the best zin we’ve ever had. I guess in my effort six months earlier to open the bottle I infinitly punctured the cork with the corkscrew to allow it to VERY slowly oxidize.

  • Nice reviews but I’m with Mott, not my style. Especially at that price…I wouldn’t take a chance on something so unique that I might not like.
    QOTD: Chateau Musar.

  • QOTD: A wine named “Symphony” from a winery in Fillmore, CA: Geissinger. It was a dessert wine that I remember smelled like the ocean and tasted like Durian fruit. Ever had a Durian? They are popular in Southeast Asia and are widely known for smelling like absolute s— but tasting very sweet. There are signs posted throughout all of Singapore saying Durians are not allowed on subways, in buildings, etc.

    Great show today. Extremely fascinating.

QOTD: Domaine Aux Moines, Savennières-Roche aux Moines, 1994. It took some work to enjoy this wine and the warmer it got, the better.

Please don’t spit it out. Are there any chunks in it?
QOTD Definitely the Stefano Mancinelli Lacrima di Morro d’Alba. Weirdest wine ever! Sometimes I love it. Once put it on vanilla yogurt and it was awesome. Kind of like boysenberry juice but not really sweet.
I bought a bunch from WL and give a bottle to my wine nerd friends.

  • QOTD: Wow, unique? I had a wine from Concord grapes made up in Maine once. That was unique. Wasn’t very good, but it was unique.

QOTD…The most unique wine would be a thirty year old Riesling that I had about twenty years ago (it was thirty years old when sampled). It was definitely an acquired taste.

    Those wines sound crazy.

QOTD: Trust me, living in MN you get some very unique wines, but the one that stands out the most in my memory wasn’t an MN one. My wife and I were at a wine tasting and she let me taste her wine that was from a different table which I never made it to. It smelled fruity and delicious and then tasted like someone else threw up in my mouth. I really wish I knew what it was …

  • GP

Totally interesting show- the shark has been reverse jumped. Never heard of this and I love it! I’m going to do my best to search these kind of wines out. They almost sound like some of the older white riojas like those from Lopez de Heredia- which are amazing!
