This is why I hate living in Maryland. I want to immediately buy these after I see the review, but Maryland is so bass ackwards that IT IS ILLEGAL to ship wine here! Time to see which of my VA buddies I can trust NOT to drink my order!

What in the name of all that is holy is that clicking sound in the background of your show??? It’s annoying and difficult to concentrate on what you are teaching me about wine!!!!!

QOTD: I have the ’04 La Gerla and the La Rascina, but haven’t tasted them yet. I’ll have to start drinking the ’04’s very soon and have always enjoyed Brunello’s in the past. Camigliano comes to mind–probably an ’01 and ’03.

    havent had an 04 brunello.

so far, great brunellos are tignanello 01 and uccilliera 99 but my fav is uccilliera 99 especially with the company, gives all the additional plus factors!

We carry the ’04 Il Poggione at Al Di La Trattoria in Charleston, SC for under $100. It is awesome w/ our braised lamb shank. Mention this post to get the $94 tag cause I may have to raise the price after Gary’s score.

    I do love brunello’s.

I have access to others than this show discussed, how about Siro Pacenti with 97 pts from Wine Advocate, more elegant and classically balanced.
or the Valdicava’s and a personal spicy well priced fave, Collemattoni.

    Love the Vino!

  • Awesome Episode Gary,

I haven’t had any ’04 Brunello, but my favourite Brunello is the GODFATHER himself, Biondi-Santi. I had a ’97 reserve and it was out of sight. One of the best wines I’ve ever had, I guess I better start buying up some 04’s. The guy at Biondi-Santi say that their reserve wines can age for 70 years. I don’t know what your thoughts are on that but if they think so it is pretty legit.

    See you in Mtl

  • Hey Gary,
I had my first 2004 Brunello last week but the recycling has gone so I can’t check what it was! I bought it in Italian duty free shortly after your last episode on the ‘little dark one’ and saved it until last Tuesday when I needed something tasty to lift the spirits. I was hoping to try it again the following day but when I got home late I discovered my wife had polished it off. So, we both benefitted from your recommendation! What I remember most was it’s amazing smell – I didn’t drink it for ages because I couldn’t stop sniffing it!!
    Must buy more.

Dude – Gary, thank you so much for this show, I am so pumped now to have at the 2004 Brunellos I’ve ordered, as well as the Super Tuscans. I pre-ordered a bottle of the Il Poggione a few weeks ago so I was PSYCHED when I saw you were going to taste it! I also have a bottle of Altesino Montosoli on the way. It sounds like it’s time to believe the hype and get these while they’re still cheap! My peeps at K&L out in California have a massive selection and you better believe I am going to be even more all over them.

Wow!! I could see how pumped you were for this episode and it didn’t disappoint. Unbelievable quality in the wines. I am pumped because I just got a six-pack of the 2004 La Gerla Brunello di Montalcino. Can’t wait to try that.

QOTD: The best Brunello I’ve had is between the 1999 Il Poggione Brunello Di Montalcino and the 2001 La Gerla – both were outstanding.

  • Gary, great show with some amazing scores.

Uccelliera and Tenuta Il Poggione are very good producers….looking forward to taste the 2004 vintage.

    thanks,

Nice show Gary! I haven’t had a chance to try any ’04 Brunello, but it has jumped to the top of my list!

QOTD: The only Brunello I’ve had was the 2001 Tenuta La Fuga Brunello di Montalcino (my review of it is up on Corkd)–it was quite good, probably not as strong as a lot of these ’04s but I rated it a 91 when I tasted it about 9 months ago.

    Hey Gary,

I enjoyed this show very much and will have to try my first Brunello soon!

Conrats on the book release… I hope to pick up a copy (or 2 😉 today in Toronto & will try and catch your book signing on the 29th.

Thanks for sharing your thunder with passion!

PS… As Miss Mel commented I found the typwriterish click noise very distracting…(the vibrating phone alittle as well) I had to rewind the vid a couple of times and it threw off the pace for me.

I realize your running a successful business and the format is real & fresh, but it did take away alittle from the experience of an awesome show.

    Safe journeys,

    S.A.L.

Love your enthusiasm and personality, you are off the charts.
Favorite Brunello is Lisini, had the 99 awhile back at Il Mulino in Vegas, then bought more at a non-toxic price. Try it!

Great show!! I have a bunch of ’01’s and a couple of 97’s in my cellar that keep begging me to drink them. Can’t wait to get some ’04’s to add to the collection.

QOTD: While it may not be the best Brunello I have had, the ’97 Banfi is my favorite because it was the first Brunello I tried. No turning back after that!

What a show Gary! I don’t think I’ve ever seen 3 bottles bring so much thunder. This will be hard to top. QOTD: I think Valdacava is the best, but there are much better values out there.

  • QOTD: Had the 1999 CastelGiocondo a few months back and it was spectacular. Can’t wait to break open some of the 2004’s.

So Gary, when will one of these gems be offered on CinderellaWine.com?
