Sorry GV but right now the Dolphins have the wildcat offense MOJO. EAT IT!

Whoa…how lucky is your palate today? Sadly, I haven’t had any nor do I own any ’04’s. That will change. I haven’t had too many Brunellos due to alot of hit and miss experiences and usually go with Borolo & Super Tuscan style for consistent quality.

    QOTD: See the above comment.

  • Gary:

    Great episode !

Your observations of earth and “Stone” are interesting as the soil around Montalcino is clay and sections of galestro (clay-marl hardened like rock).
Must be Hell on the equipment working the land. Exciting that the soil was translating to your palate !!

    Cheers from Nova Scotia!

Nice episode. Brunellos do in fact rock. Gary -Do ALL DOCG wines adorn the official pink strip seal at the top of the bottle? I have read that they are however, the wholsesale guy at the wine tasting said no. Explain?

    Thanks.

Il Poggiune has always been a top producer.

    Gary,

Great show. Because you are so critical with your scores, I am definitely going out and purchasing an 04 Brunello. I hope your book does well. I haven’t had the desire to buy your book yet. Give me three reasons (legitimate) why I should.

  • Great Mashup, Brunello di Montalcino wines are some of my top favorite wines.

QOTD, never had the 2004 vintage, my favorite is Castello Banfi.

(Note: the printing calculator sound at the beginning was somewhat distracting, fortunately it went away when the reviews started.)

Gary, thanks for a great pumped up show! Can I recommend you taste the 2004 Tenuta Vitanza? If your palette leans towards the more traditional, medium bodied, feminine efforts, this one is a hit.

    Cheers,

    Keith

Been meaning to get a Brunello, but with the 06 Bordeaux release I’m a bit tapped out at this time.

Your show has me now planning on checking out the local liquor control board this weekend to see what’s available for Brunello.

    Looking good for your book!

    Gary,

Traveling again….Last week in Ankara and Istanbul. Wine sucks but RAKI saved the day. Will head over the THE LIBRARY in Amman tonight for the best steak in the Middel East to see what BdM they have. Steak will accompany the wine!

Pls start updating us on how long the wines you are tasting have been open as this can make a big difference.

Best EVER was a 1997 Banfi.

My god , what a show. I’m tempted to by all the three of it. I’m not tempted ……. I’m going to do it.
    Brunello 2004 is awesome.

QOTD. One of my favorites is Casanova di Neri Cerretalto, but I just have 2001 in my cellar – which is also a very good vintage.
But, according to the seller the 2004 is amazing.
I just wonder if the price is not over the top: ?140 which is about 210 dollars. Maybe the wines on the show are better value.

QOTD: I have a couple of ’04 Brunello that I have been laying down and don’t quite want to pop yet, but everything else I’ve had from the region in this vintage (Rosso di Montalcino and such) and ’06 and (especially young ’07 Rosso) have been spectacular. Can’t wait to open the Brunellos I have in the ol’ cellar! …but not quite yet.

  • Great – again, great show Gary! I’will look for 04 Brunello’s for sure.

My single best Brunello I’ve had was the 2001 Valdicava Brunello!

I’m excited about this episode, and definitely going to pick up some 04 Brunello. I can’t say I’ve had enough to have a favorite, maybe only 2 or 3 and I can’t recall any of the producers, but after this show I will certainly be trying more. Triple threat match?

  • First, a toast to you G-Man on your nook hitting the bookstore shelves! Hip hip

A “redonkulous” show is right. A tad better than the Torrontes Battle Royal huh? 🙂 I like the tasting note “As smooth as Mischa’s butt”

QOTD: I had a 1997 Brunello not too long ago (forgot name) which was quite nice but probably nowhere near the quality of the ’04. I need to seek one out, i.e. order a few from you.

    Cheers!

P.S. See you tomorrow in VA.
