Hey Gary! I love your show. I’ve been a “lurker” since I saw you on the Jimmy Fallon show but have been faithfully watching since then. I thought it was about time to come out and tell you how great you and your show is, your passion for wine, life and people is inspiring! Plus I know how much you “hate” the lurkers. I’m just starting to get in to wine but as part of the CKC so I certainly don’t have the funds to explore wines the way I would like, YET. Until I “make it” though, I’m having a ton of fun trying as much “inexpensive” wine as I can and training my palate. Thanks so much for the show and your dedication, you’re awesome!

QOTD: This weekend, unfortunately, I’ll be drinking lots of water, juice, soup broth, and some cough syrup. H1N1 is no fun. )o: (It is giving me time to catch up on some past episodes though!)

My husband and I are having our first bottle of Teroldego this weekend. It’s quite nice. I’d buy it again. It takes us 2-3 days to finish a bottle. I think there is a little left for Sunday.

  • Hey Gary

“fish sux” I assume is a football referance?

QOTD: Strangely no wine – lots and lots of beer was the order of the day.

    Cheers

I found a few bottles of Martinelli “Zio Tony Ranch” Chardonnay 2004.
    Smokin’ huge Chard…
Also had this weekend, from the same winery the 2007 Pinot Noir, mind blowing!

QOTD: Had some friends over Thursday that love Riesling as much as me, so I put more than enough in the fridge so they could have choices. We had a Dr. Pauly Bergweiler 2006 Noble House Riesling from Mosel: $13, delicious with wonderful friut vs. minerality and an exceptional value. With/for dessert, a J2 Weingut Becker Langraf In Felsenkeller 2006 Riesling Olberg Auslese: $22 500 ml: glorious! The 20% off Riesling sale last month at my local shop made me a very happy girl. The “leftovers” are for “wine after work”: 2006 Hogue Genesis Riesling (bought at a discount shop for $5) and 2007 J. Lohr Monterey County White Riesling ($9). The Hogue is pretty good and the J. Lohr I’m looking forward to again after tasting it at a local event this summer.
If I’m remembering correctly, it was refreshing, tasty and interesting because the finish had a little frizzante action on it. It has an RS of 4% but wasn’t really flabby because of the bubbles. We might be breaking into that one tomorrow as an appertif with cheese before we chow down on London Broil and crack open a nice bottle for red.
I checked my schedule at work and they’re letting off in time for me to make it to your signing in Berkeley next Sunday. Totally psyched!!!
    See y’all there!

its 13-3 and almost halftime, so your 16-7 call may be right on time….To answer your question, I am pregnant so unforuntely making my husband drink all my leftover wines samples.. but we are cooking with California Chard in some French Onion Soup.

  • Very nice head to head. It is always fun. Too bad I didn’t have either wine here. Gary, you’re great!

QOTD: This afternoon I’ve been drinking an ’05 Château Saint-Jean Côtes du Rhône Villages Plan de Dieu, which is composed of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah. By now, you should know that that’s the kind of blend that hits the spot for me.

I bet you’re a very happy man that Lindell just pushed that right! My brother and I finished a bottle of 2005 Franscican Merlot. Decent wine for 20 bones, however it was quite hot on the backend which I don’t like. Grr…we’ll hit that 2003 Brunello when the deep dish gets here in 20 mins. Hey Yo, pulling for your Jets! In one hour my Bears are going Falcon hunting!

We drank a 2006 Basel Cellars Merriment and a 2005 Three Rivers Meritage, both from Walla Walla, WA. Both needed a bit of decanting, and were big, hearty bordeaux styles.

Okay show besides the opening, still jealous of that fine QB play I see.

QOTD: No one was drinking anything when the Jets beat the Bills, 😉

  • Hey Gary,
Loved the mashup episode #754. This weekend my wife and I enjoyed a bottle of Jonathan Edwards Gewurztraminer and on Sunday watching the 59-0 Pats game, a V Sattui Zinfandel. Both very yummy!

Elyse Il Ingenue 2006 and 1994 View Telegraphe. Also had a Montepulciano from a local restaurant that was quite good but was a replacement for a Bracco so I didn’t really fond out what it was until dinner was finished. I drank both of these along with GV as did my wife. We liked the Calera though we hadn’t had this particular vineyard designation from them. We didn’t like the Healdsburg at all. Let them sit for 6 hours and friends of ours still liked the Calera better.

  • Lawrence leichtman

Oh yeah the Jets lost in OT.

I had a Costco/Kirkland Napa Cab which is really good, a Kirkland Pino which was pretty good, and a Giordano super Tuscan which tasted terrible compared to the 05.

Sorry about the Jets GV. Hope you don’t have a Grossman on your hands with Sanchez but only time will tell. The Bears managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory which is becoming common but annoying. How the hell can you have 12 men on the field and give Atlanta a first down and subsequent touchdown. Unbelieveable, A running back that has only fumbled twice in 460 carries fumbles twice in the same series in succession and turns it over the second time on the Falcons 1 yard line. A veteran lineman jumps offside on what should have been the tying drive and takes us out of the red zone. WTF? So sad it is funny.

i went to some friends house for dinner and i brought a bottle from dom st nicolas in fief vendieves. technically in the loire but south of nante along the coast. 2002, Reflets, 1/2 pinot and 1/2 cab franc. kinda strange blend for me but was good with our food. came off as a good bottle of beaujolais cru. these guys are big on the biodynamics and are making some tasty wines.
i was there over the summer and picked up a few bottles. good times
