I like these tighter, shorter shows but this one is possibly too short. You just can’t please some people!

QOTD: Took a job that made some promises and it hasn’t brought the thunder! Still happy to have a job though

And don’t change a thing, GV!! Love the shows, happy to take what I can get. You can’t complain about free advice! Especially trustworthy advice.

A big fan of white burgundy and particularly Meursault. Amazing wine to be paired with food. So versatile but people get turned off by the high price point of good wines from this region.

QOTD: The biggest let down after too much hype over the past 60 days is easily the NY JETS! Way too much hope, hype & expectations on the Dirt Sanchez experiment. Got to keep things in perspective friends. ROOKIE QB! Enough said!

Great show. As I said before, I like the tight shows, but longer ones are great when you have a guest or something special to discuss. Variety is the spice of life.

Meursault is a super wine. I seldom go for the premier or grand crus (though they are a real treat), because there are some super bargains in the blends and “lesser” vineyards. Go for a non-premier cru vineyard or AOC wine from a good producer and you can get a lovely Meursault with the mineral and citrus edge for under $30. When I find a good one, it is a case buy.

This wine rocks with mussels steamed in white wine and herbs.

Cool show Gary. I have always wanted to do a side by side by the same producer like that.
I had never heard of a meursault before. I must have one.

    Hey Gary

when one of these Disappointing wines happens maybe this is a chance for a rematch in 3-4 yrs and see if the more Hyped wine comes together better as so many old world wines need more time, they were 2007 Meursaults after-all ?

rematch in a few years, maybe?

    re QOTD:
how many times a crappy wine shaped up after I drank most of the wines when they were not fully developed. IE a terrific (eventually) 1997 Aglianico that was just OK (I bought 1/2 case way back) and the last bottle last year was one of the most enjoyable wine I had for less that 20$ in years.

  • I like this format, especially this Meursaults epi. Its almost scientific–isolating the difference between 2 vineyards, while controlling the other variables (winemaker, vintage, etc.) This is helpful. Sometimes your head-to-heads don’t make sense (apples to oranges). I’d like to see more of these thoughtful comparison episodes, and I like them coming in around the 10 minute mark, too.

And I love the fact that there was no mention of “Crush It, ” VaynerMedia, and all the other aspects of the “I am awesome, look how successful I am” empire. (So maybe I’m a bit envious).

Love the tight shows but mix it up now and then too.

QOTD – I was psyched about a Chard form Burg and a Bordeaux blanc ( sauvignon blanc, semillon ) I had never had either before. I did not like either at all. Lemon water.

Liking the “tight” shows. Quick, to the point and still informative!

QOTD: Been hyped to receive my Crushit book, but still do not have it. Ordered it thru Borders to have it delivered directly to the local store. It arrived to store last Friday (days after the initial release), but still no call from them to pick it up (per their instruction). My bad. . . never have one delivered like that again.

Tight is good – but I like more for the money (free?) ………..

    AotD:
I was hyped for my Kansas City Chiefs to go 0-16 for the season. But they screwed up and won one. Very disappointing!!!

  • I liked this episode, learned a few things about a wine I’d never heard of before. I definitely appreciate the shorter episodes with some fun facts squeezed in, but also enjoy the longer ones where you’re just you in your element. Variety is the key. Keep ’em coming.

    Gary,
The thing that I was most pumped up about and let down a little was a bottle of 05 Chateau Gonin Bordeaux. The price pt. 13.00 bones was fantastic but not the wine. Very short on the palat. I do like the format of these shows but equally so I like the more informational shows.

Love to see some blind tastings again, haven’t had any in a long time. Also, Pinot and 2006 Bordeaux would be nice. Peace. QOTD – Nothing over the last 60 days, but All time – probably Star Wars Episode I.

  • Gary –

Really love you shorter format a lot! Not that I didn’t also love settling in for a half hour interview/tasting with a great winemaker. Hope to see more of those. But the very short format fits my lifestyle a lot better than the longer ones and I get to watch more episodes!

QOTD: Dodgers performance in the NLCS. Down 3-1 as I write this.

QOTD: Tried the McMannis Petite Syrah. Enough said.
