Now we all love Gary and we love the show, but this guest was just too starstruck and psychophantic to do himself justice. I’m sure he’s a nice guy but he seemed a whisker away from wanking GV off…and that is an image I’m desperately trying to erase from my mind!

    Hey Gary,
I loved this show. I like all of your “celebrity” guests, they bring a lot of thunder, but wine library is all about the regular guy. This guest brought a lot that we all can relate with. As far as the Gibbston, Never stop your crew from bringing a few bottles of something like that in. Did you ever see the movie “Grand Torino”? Well in that the grumpy old man that noone liked turned out to be a prety sweet old man (wine). Bring those types in so we can decide for ourselves– maybe just a few less bottles.

QOTD- I always refer back to the 1974 Heitz Marthas Vineyard I had in 1983 as my epiphany- I tasted one and proceeded to buy every one the store had, 1-2 at a time (probable a full case when I finished). From there on I was a “wino”.

  • glad to hear a lovely British accent on here again, although not sure about presenting the UK events as non-glassware tastings – we do own glasses over here. Loved to learn about Steve, nice guy!

Shame I missed you over here, but next time (and I’ll bring some glasses)

Fun show guys. Wine and coffee…two of the best things every created…ever!!

QOTD: A trip to Napa. It wasn’t a wine, but a multitude. Cabs, Zins, Chards, Pinots…it just kept getting better and better. And, from that trip, I started loving wine AND wine trips. I go on at least one per year w/my last one about two weeks to Anderson Valley, CA. Next up: Spain.

Good show today, one of the better guests.

QOTD: My moment was when doing weekly tasting classes with my wife as something to do together and then they bring out the Tempier high end cuvees, 04 Dead Arm, and Owen Roe Sinister Hand. They were the first red wines I really liked and everything clicked for me after that. I’ve been buying my way broke ever since.

    Very Upbeat Guy. Fun show.

QOTD: On a wine trip in “Gold Country” Young’s Zinfandel ’99. So fantastic. Was into wine way before that, but this was the start of many epiphanies.

QOTD It was a cheap muscato maybe from Sutter Home, I would have to check. I got honeysuckle bloom and sweet fruits on the nose and it was what started me on wines. That is why I never fault people for liking cheap wine or white zin, at least it is wine and if they like something, it is a doorway to get them into other wines.

QOTD – Many years ago I was in Calfornia and shared a bottle of Clos du Val cabernet at dinner and discovered that I liked red wine. Since then I have had wine nearly every day.

Lots of wines over the years, but when I decidewd I had to get serious about wine was a 1991 Napa CaliCab, apparently a one-off label called Rustica that had flavors I didn’t know wines could have (in a good way), taking me from just a wine-drinker towards where I am today
